7 - It's surprising how mellow this is compared to a lot of other metal out there. I know traditional acts with more weight than this.
Procession - To Reap Heavens Apart
Only Death Is RealI'd give that an 7.5, close to an 8 at times. Good song.
How about some 100% pure Colombian Black Metal:
10 - Really good use of ritualistic atmosphere. The main riff is sparse and repetitive but I like that it has a wider dynamic range - helps to contrast more and contrast is a key for impact.
Cultes des Ghoules - Idylls of the Chosen Damned
Only Death Is Real9.5. The instruments are a 9, while the singer's vocals are a 10.

I'd say 8 Very fast, very heavy, but also very melodic. Very good song actually.
7 - I know it sounds like blasphemy coming from me (and not the good kind) but on this album, MF got a lot less dynamic and in the process lost a lot of the heaviness. It just feels like they got a little lazy here.
Only Death Is RealSounds like a 10 to me.
Now for something a little lower on the scale: Modest Mouse - Spitting Venom
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveThe louder section gets up to a 5, but its probably a 4 overall.
That's a tough one, moves all the way between a 1 and maybe a 4. I'd say 2 overall.
3.5 - The bits of bluesy rock here give it a slight bump to that level.
Only Death Is RealDude, avoid the 10 minute songs. It makes it hard for people to want to post here.
Abrasive, a bit groovy/rhythmic when it needs to be, follows a worthy melody, and the instruments and vocals blend pretty well together to create a massive wall of energy attacking all at once. I give it 9 (because it gives way to a well-placed stillness here and there).

Either a high 8 or a low 9; I'll say it's a low 9.
6 - It's got a nice, fat tone but the actual riffs beneath it are pretty much basic hard rock and that keeps it at this level.
Evoken - Astray in Eternal Night
Only Death Is RealUm... a give that a 7.
(I know this is not rock or metal -at all-, but, still, would be fun to know!)
5i - non-metal songs cannot be placed in the scale and do not have a real number assigned to them. However, it sounds abrasive enough to receive a reasonable imaginary number.
RXYZYXR - "Denial of Death" (Rehearsal Version)
ERROR: Signature not loadedIt's the Moh's Scale of Rock and Metal Hardness. Not only metal is welcome....but that song wasn't any sub-genre of rock either.
9, definitely.

7 - Always thought the less dynamic approach really limited this album.
Only Death Is RealIt's got a pretty hefty riff, and a more metallic edge than their 70's and 80's material. I'd say a 7½, for those particularly massive moments, and that guitar solo.
It's a bit like Heaven and Hell (the song) with a bunch of metal celebrities playing behind it.
