Gigguk just released a new video, keeping with the current theme of classics, it's about Gankutsuou/The Count of Monte Cristo:

Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI ended reading the actual novel because I was interested in watching this show.
I didn't have the means to actually watch it at the time, so I had to wait like five years after I'd read the book.
…Well, those visuals are trippy for sure. ò.Ô
... sorry but was Gigguk's channel demonetized last week? I went to socialblade and it seems like his revenue wasn't affected by any margin. I got word that youtube went on an anime channel-demonetizing spree for "unclaimed content" in a week. Gigguk apparently got his channel reinstated after raising a fuss, but I guess it happened so fast that I never noticed! Youtube is even going after fan-animated projects, also claiming that it is content they don't own, showing that youtube can't tell the difference, AND manga channels!
Get memed on, Evangelion.
goddamn, that was a great shitpost
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistWait, did they actually degayify Kaworu?
They went with a much more literal translation and Tumblr lost its mind. It does sound a lot more stilted because Studio Khara is insistent on literal translations after an incident where they felt FU Nimation took way too many liberties with the dub of the third Rebuild film.
Uuh, so what was the original Japanese line again?

Huh no wonder the controversy.
Literal translations are generally never that good.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Granted it is one hell of an overreaction.
They just changed "I love you" to "I like you". As in, what "daisuki da" literally means.
Yes it is less clear-cut, but c'mon, people, the subtext is clearly still there.

Hmm… to be fair, "daisuki" is pretty strong, so "love" seems more appropriate. But yeah, but if it's just that that's a pretty minor change.

IIRC, suki was the line used in the japanese version and can be translated to either like or love, ai is the one that that can't be translated as anything but love
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistThat's the thing: the homoerotic subtext between Kaworu and Shinji is so thick it is pretty clear that the former means "like" in a romantic sense.
It's not that I don't get where these fans are coming from, gay erasure is a real problem, I just think that, in this particular case, the reaction was unwarranted.
I believe I read once "aishiteru", the phrase for "I love you", is considered rather overdramatic in Japan and rarely used nowadays outside Narmy soap operas.
Hence "daisuki", which technically translates better to "I like you a lot".
Don't quote me on that, though.

I saw the thumbnail had the words no homo in it and I initially didn't watch this video since i am over the complaining. Thankfully the video is only 5 minutes long and I'll watch it later.
Wow, Gigguk is heaping praise upon praise on Attack on Titan.
All deserved, the series improved by leaps and bounds, the chapters past the Time Skip are a damn work of art.
Honestly, I think it's not such a bad thing that Season 2 and 3 got less hype. The post-Season 1 hype was so strong it led to a deluge of increasingly ridiculous merchandising, as well as two godawful live-action movies. It made it hard to take the series seriously at one point. At least fans that stuck around for the next seasons could enjoy them in a slightly more… quiet atmosphere, less saturated with memes.
Well the hype hasn’t completely gone away, after all, this happened at an LA Dodgers game.
I really do need to catch up with the series.
Oh yeah, heard about that… though as one comment pointed out…
Why didn't they bring out the Beast Titan for a baseball match?
"I don't even know if the people who made this (song) are even alive anymore"
The song is Gymnopédie no. 1 by the way.
Strange how we can cry artists we don't even know personally, because we share that invisible bond through their works… Ah fuck, I want to rewatch Disappearance now…
It's not weird at all: art is by its very nature something personal, and when an artist shares it with us, they are, and forgive the poetic language, baring naked a piece of their very soul.
So we do, in a roundabout manner, know them personally, because of all they chose to share with us through their art.
Waifu stuff in general makes me cringe and want to avoid any association with other anime fans, but he did at least recognize that Speedwagon is objectively the best.
