Here's hoping it's gonna be something with substance, not something for the Tumblr crowd.

Actually, that link doesn't include the new synopsis for the film.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.

Also, I heard that Tone Loc might be playing the villian. If that is true, good for Disney to cast a rapper with a distinctive voice and a resume of voice acting roles.

I'm...not sure how I feel about that.

Okay, if the different animals don't get along, why to live in the same city then? Wouldn't it be more logical to have different cities for each species?

[up][up][up] He was credited as the writer back when this thing was announced.

[up][up] We barley have enough info on the film as it is. Why not wait before we start questioning plot elements?

Yeah, that may not mean anything, and we don't actually know his other credits.

[up][up]Difference being, when this thing was announced I didn't have a sample of his work to judge. Now I do.

Well, the difference here is that they have John Lasseter and their high-level story team to bash it into shape.

So? I was just explaining why I'm reacting to the news that he's involved now rather than back when it was first announced.

Well OK, so now that you can judge a body of his work, do you think this is mostly a good thing or a bad thing?

I was just assuming that this news makes you have doubts about the film's quality. If I'm misunderstanding, I apologize.

I'm not really sure yet. There are things I like about Penn Zero, but my opinion so far is that it's been missing something that I can't put my finger on. Whether that same lack will transfer to Zootopia? I dunno.

I would be a lot more concerned if he was the main director of the film, though.

So I guess my earlier point was that he's working with a highly skilled (and different) group of people on Zootopia, so maybe there won't be a similar deficiency.

So wait, Judy Hopps is the protagonist here? That'd make this the first non-princess movie since Home on the Range with a female main protagonist.

Interesting that we haven't seen concept art of her, but of her partner in crime - which I honestly hope it doesn't devolve into romance, I'm still having nauseous thoughts about The Fearless Four and it's shoved last minute cat-dog pairing (and previous cat-on-human seduction).

I guess this will be like in Lilo & Stitch, where there is a female protagonist but it's the male secondary character that gets all the attention.

[up][up] Stitch is not a "Secondary Character".

Not only is it Stitch's story just as much as it is Lilo's, but he shares the dang title of the movie with her.

Look at this picture. There are three silhouettes. Two of them are obviously Nick and Judy but the third is a yet to be revealed character that is most likely a Fennec Fox since that was one of animals brought to the studio in October for animators to study in preparation for the film.

Speaking of which, the fact that they did that (plus have some of the filmmakers go on an African safari like they did with The Lion King) is interesting. While I know of various films where animators had to study actual animals, the characters of those movies still moved and lived like animals for the most part. To do this amount of research for a film about anthropomorphic animals that walk on two legs and wear clothes is unheard of, at least for me.

Well. Take a look at huge metropolitan cities like New York, London, Berlin Paris or Sydney that have a slew of demographics inhabiting them. Only a cursory glance at the history of these cities show that the demographics didn't get along, and tensions between them got pretty heated too.

Just replace human city demographics with animals and it's the same kaboodle.

That's rather different. We're still the same species and all use basically the same systems of urban maintenance and subsistence within our cities, while from what they're saying, the animals all have their own separate systems based on their own biological and behavior quirks within the same city. Which would seem to negate the point of it being the same city in the first place. And on top of that, they don't get along.
