Another "coincidence" there I'm sure.

I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.

Helps that it was a lot more incompetent.

Yeah, it takes a lot to be even more incompetent than the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, but these chucklefucks managed it.

Supreme Court orders the removal of Brasilia's governor. Governor Rocha is a Bolsonaro ally and the SC says that Jan. 8 could only have happened with him assisting the rioters.

Heard from some Florida-based news media that Bolsonaro is staying there until a visa (forgot the type) that's usually meant for foreign heads of states.

The Ministry of Justice, Flavio Dino, extinguished the COE (Special Operations Command) of the PFR (Federal Roadway Police).

OK, I am going to comment how incredibly stupid that is.

Those COE have been a great asset on fighting criminal activity, specially car theft/robberies, bank robberies and drug trafficking in Brazil, specially since they aren't restricted to state lines and have much more freedom to act between states. Which is where the activity of most organized crime specialized in these kind of activities act.

Not only that but after the COE was allowed to work with the PRF, the amount of bank robberies between the state of SP and MG dropped down significantly exactly because they could act between both states without issues. Also the amount of drugs and weapons apprehend was pretty good compared to the previous years.

The state level police forces would also participate in operations when needed under the command of the PRF, which was extremely valued due to the reduced risk of criminal retaliation against the police forces due to the PRF agents being from the entire country and being much harder to pinpoint who the agents are, unlike the civil and military police who are actually easy to find inside the state.

This is an incredibly stupid decision and only helps organized crime to act between states, specially due to the lack of coordination between states.

Man took a gun to the hospital as his mom got an MRI. He then got shot by the very same gun in the stomach.

Here’s a link to an article about it

Oh my, it seems Bolsonaro is having issues with a little case of obvious corruption: he tried to make a small gift from Saudi Arabia ($3M worth of diamond jewels) enter the country without the customs knowing about it.

The diamonds have been seized (that was in late 2021), and after that Bolsonaro send cronies to try and intimidate custom officers to get the jewels back so as not to leave them to his successor (as recently as december 29th, 2022 - three days before he left power).

Apparently he is struggling a bit to turn this into a conspiracy. He first said "it was just a gift for his wife" before giving up and leaving it to customs. Another gift was identified (worth a meager $70k) that he apparently managed to get through. And, coincidence or not, this gift apparently happened a month before a Brazilian refinery was sold for a very generous price to an Emirati (Saudi ally) company, which makes some wonder whether the jewels were supposed to grease some wheels in order to complete the deal.

Because, as somebody puts it, "$3M is waaaaaay above the price of usual gifts between heads of state".

Anyways, to hear of diamonds screwing up with a politician's reputation in 2023 is a blast from the past for me - that happened to French president Valery Giscard d'Estaing in the late 70s (but they were gifted by dictator Jean-Bedel Bokassa of Centrafrica).

The Federal Police arrests 9 suspects of plotting to kill the judge Sergio Moro and other public agents.

This attempt also makes a callback to how the PCC treasury accountant had leaked audios where he downright complained how "during the previous administrations the party had a pretty good dialog with the Workers Party and the government, now with Moro and the current administration (2019), there is none and he was making life harder for the organized crime.

SAO PAULO (AP) β€” Far-right former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was barred Friday from running for office again until 2030 after a panel of judges concluded that he abused his power and cast unfounded doubts on the country’s electronic voting system.

While I find that him being unable to be elected until he is dead is fairly positive, I really don't think that Lula should have been elected for a third time and that there should be a term limit, instead of using two candidates to alternate with each other.
