wonder if the Ice crew would have been cool as Dark chi warriors.

The Ice Crew should've ousted the Dark Enforcers long before,...them as Dao Lon Wong's warriors would've been better.

And Drago was definitely a decent villain, but a little continuity between him and his many aunts and uncles would've been nice.

But I still hold that a Monkey King season would've been freaking awesome!

agreed but what would've been the Plot Coupons?

Monkey King was Too Powerful to Live. What made his stories so entertaining was the fact that the normally "equal footing" the J-Team had with their enemies was completely subverted. Both times they beat Monkey King solely by the skin of their teeth and a little creativity. Making him a season long Big Bad means they will fundamentally defeat him on a more regular basis. Basic law of diminishing returns. That said, one or two more filler episodes with him would have been okay by me.

I'll agree Tarakudo was the best villain, diminished only by the show starting to show cracks around him. I would've loved to see him show up earlier instead of Daolon Wong.

As much as I like the notion of a Monkey King season, he's not really a character that lends himself to a long arc. Like, a two-parter at most. His plans (if you can even call them that, since they're mostly just escaping followed by fucking reality in the ear for a while) are too impulsive and disconnected to build into a seasonal arc.

Part of the reason the last season felt stale was because everything was recycled. We got another regurgitation of a set of powers we already cycled through, using a younger and less intelligent Shendu and TOTALLY GANGSTA set of minions. Drago himself wasn't exactly an awful character, just kind of a dull one they never did anything interesting with until the finale. I mean, Drago's minions didn't foil him properly like the Enforcers did for the others, he wasn't serious enough to be the straight man to the show's usual weird shit like Daolon Wong, didn't have Tarakudo's playful streak, didn't have Shendu's sense of dramatic restraint to temper his menace, and didn't have the interesting dynamic with Shendu until the latter showed up just in time for the series to end. He was just Shendu but loud and angry.

Now that I think about it, Drago probably could've had the most interesting minion dynamic with Valmont of all people, just to lend some maturity to the ensemble and get poor Valmont some decent villain points back. Play him off as the exasperated team dad, the natural conclusion of which is awkward moments with Shendu in the finale to give him comedy points.

Am I the only one who wished we saw Dragonfired Hak Foo in the last season?

Also maybe it's just sexism but the The Enforcers and Ice Gang could have used a henchwoman.

After all this time, it still confuses me how much of a thing Jade/Drago is/was with the fandom. <shudder>

I mean, I know with every fandom "ship the most prominent female character with the sexiest male villain" is going to be a major thing, but still. At the very least, the hoops you have to jump through to make that make any semblance of sense at all make the whole thing ridiculous. And yet half the fanworks out there are all about it.

Not that Jackie Chan Adventures has the best fanfic industry in the first place, even considering Sturgeon's Law.

^ The show could probably have used more recurring female characters in general. Besides Jade, there was only Viper and Tohru's mom, both of whom were very rare and the latter of which had a very specific role associated with her.

There was Jade's teacher. Though she was less common than Viper.

I remember watching this on Kids WB, and the show still holds up well. My one big complaint about the show was Jade. She has too many appearances, and she even got more focus later into the show despite the title being called "Jackie Chan Adventures".

They were co-main characters, so her being in every episodes was more or less a given.

I remember when I caught the very first episode after already being familiar with the show, and it was hilarious that Jade pretended not to speak English to provide an ending twist when that's given away by all the other episodes. grin

I meant that Jackie got less focus and Jade got more, and I found Jade to be rather annoying at times.

I also wanted an episode where Jackie was on a solo adventure since he tends to go out himself, and seeing how he would handle a crazy situation by himself could be interesting.

Ah, I remember this show from way back. It blended action-adventure with silly comedy very well.

The only major thing I had against the show was they never explained how Shendu was able to escape being banished to rule China, only to get turned into a statue. The show even references that happening a few times but it never explains how.

Other than that, loved the show, with seasons 3 and 4 probably being my favorite and very close runner up. I'm not sure which is in which place, though.

Edit: Oh, and I hated Jade.

You're in the minority.

The episode where she becomes Queen of the Shadowkhan seems to be a Fan Favorite, and she's the character that appeals to kids due to, well, being a kid who doesn't like school and gets to go on awesome adventures.

I'm aware of that, it's just that her starting a fair number of the problems she fixed always grated on me. I know a number of kid sidekicks are like that but her personality made it unbearable.

Not to mention Jackie never knew how to keep his niece in her place (literally). Why can no adult keep one child from running off (in one case, all the way to space!).

Jade being disliked is more common than you might think, though I personally never thought she was that bad.

She's an okay character. She is a little annoying, although thankfully not unbearable.

I loved Jade, personally. Now that I'm more of an adult, I sympathize heavily with Jackie and man, I'd have handcuffed her to a railing or something. but I still adore her.

I need to re-watch this show, I miss it.

[up][up] It was always fun when the show lampshaded it:

I know! It was so great. Plus, you know they'd all have died SO MANY TIMES if not for Jade. I mean, half the time it was her fault, but the other half it totally wasn't. like that Alt Universe two parter where the demon-dragon-lord things took over and Jade was the only one who actually remembered how things were supposed to go. that was great. that was my favorite.

The thing about Jade is an excellent example of why or why not a character becomes The Scrappy. She's a Tagalong Kid who sometimes causes additional problems for the hero, but also often fixes her own mistakes and offers an equal amount of help for problems that weren't her fault. Some dislike her for the first, some like her for the second.
