Is there a reason for those two country songs (especially that cover of a well-known 80s hit) being that high on the charts and for that long when outside of country music fandom probably no one has heard of them and they don't get airplay on many Top 40 stations? Are Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs that popular?

Jungkook of BTS debuts at #1 alongside Latto with "Seven", making him the second BTS member to hit #1 as a soloist after Jimin, who hit #1 earlier this year with "Like Crazy". It also earns Jungkook and Latto their first #1 hit while also earning the former his first top 10 as a soloist and the latter her second after 2022's "Big Energy".

There's also another song debuting right behind them. Jason Aldean debuts at #2 with "Try That in a Small Town", which has garnered a lot of controversy due to its right-wing lyrics expressing anti-protestor, pro-police, and pro-gun sentiments in addition to its music video which, knowingly or not, was filmed in front of a courthouse that was the site of a lynching. All that attention meant a lot of right-wingers probably decided to buy and stream the song, resulting in Aldean having his highest chart peak yet and his second top 10 after 2011's "Dirt Road Anthem".

Jason Aldean's ode to small-town (white) vigilantism "Try That in a Small Town" hits #1 on the Hot 100, presumably off of the strength of right-wingers buying and streaming the song to "own the libs", giving Aldean his first #1.

Meanwhile, Gunna enters the top 5 to #4 with "fukumean", matching his highest chart peak as "Drip Too Hard" (with Lil Baby) also peaked at #4 back in 2018.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Travis Scott debuts at #7 alongside Bad Bunny and the Weeknd with the lead single "K-POP" for his fourth studio album UTOPIA, which gives Scott his 12th top 10, Bad Bunny his 11th, and the Weeknd his 17th.

Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, alongside Aqua, also reenter the top 10 with the "Barbie Girl"-sampling "Barbie World" as the blockbuster success of the Barbie movie boosts the song from #27 to #8.

Shit! The song called "K-pop" has charted higher than most actual K-pop songs by artists not affiliated with BTS (not even BLACKPINK has ever made the top ten)! Even the song by Jungkook has fallen beneath it (just a week after it debuted at number one). Something isn't right.

Right-wing country fans constantly streaming or buying "Last Night" and the "Fast Car" cover are also probably the only reason they keep charting in the top 5 (the former being #1 for 14 goddamn weeks), because seriously, no one outside of modern country fandom even knows who their singers are and most Top 40 stations don't play them.

I'm not even a country fan, but country fans are a bigger bloc than you think they are and I don't think it's completely fair to paint people listening to Morgan Wallen and especially Luke Combs with the same brush we're using for people getting Jason Aldean to #1. Listening to country isn't automatically owning the libs.
