I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)
Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).
If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.
Warhammer 40,000 has its own thread here

I understand the need to retire minis, to make room for new ones, as well as limiting the amount of made-for-order classics. Though I also kinda wish that GW could keep their older models still available, perhaps in the same way that Mantic started doing last year: Through a monthly paid subscription you can get access to STLs of models that are already sold in resin, so that you can print the models at home. I haven't tried it myself yet, but once I get a 3D-printer I will give it a shot. Dunno if the same type of system could work with GW, but I would be willing to pay for the opportunity to print older out-of-production models.
I mean, they're also retiring a bunch of Stormcast not to strengthen the Old World line, but because they were already knee deep in Stormcast kits and were running out of new roles to give units.
And now we get our first look at the new Skaven Clanrats. Ooh, I like the look of these rabid little rat-bastards! They remind me aesthetically of the Kruleboyz, with how ragged and vicious they look. I am curious to see how they will update other units and characters in the near future.
I do still like the previous plastic Clanrats and I'm glad I bought a box of them before they got retired. Even though they are likely to return for Old World, I have a feeling that just like the Orc Boyz they might end up costing *double* from what I paid 20 years ago. Anyhow, the new Clanrats and the previous ones still look compatible with each other in the same force, so I could get a box of the upcoming ones for my own Skaven-project.
They do look awesome, updated but still in the same style as the previous generation.
Yeah, the two designs still fit next to each other. The main difference is that the earlier ones are more clearly designed for regiments, while the newer ones have more dynamic poses like in Warcry. Though it's not really a problem, if someone wants to put them on square bases.
If they put out new Stormvermin of this quality, I will have to indulge.

Old World has had its first Errant drop alongside some new FAQ bits and some error fixing with the Legacy factions. No major changes yet though.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranGiven what's been present in the Old World releases so far, any particular speculations or wishes for future release? I'm expecting that the Wood Elves are likely going to have a tree spirit-based Army of Infamy and then probably a "wild hunt" deal heavy on the cavalry, and then perhaps a minotaur horde for the Beastmen. I'm also half-hoping that the Empire being split into distinct nations at the moment, including a Nordlander-Middelander one and Talabeclander one, might open the door to non-Sigmarite militant priests.
I'd have nothing against more units for the Empire's various sub-factions. I've always had a fondness for the Northmen and the Cult of Ulric, such as the Knights of the White Wolf and the Teutogen Guard. I'd also finally want to see models for the upcoming Kislevites that were teased a few years ago.
Double-post: Now we get a new type of Stormcast, the Reclusians, the ones that have been resurrected so many times that they are close to finally losing their identity. They are accompanied by mortal priests as retainers, who as a nice touch are described as descendants of the Stormcast they're with. The models are pretty good, especially the priests, who would look good as an Inquisitorial retinue in 40K, or Sigmarite priest traveling with flagellants.
They are good looking models. I like the chainmail.
I think the Kislevites will probably be mercenaries for the Empire like the Badland Ogres and Bonegrinder Giants are for the Orcs. I'm personally hoping for the return of the Reiksguard on foot to the Empire army as well.
A closer look at all the new Darkoath models, to show the versatility of the sprues. Again, these are very nice updates for the Chaos Marauders, but it is also nice to see barbarians who can be customized to look less obviously Chaotic. These look like they could be used as more heroic style of Barbarian Hero, because they look both Cimmerian and Uthgardt in their design. I believe these could be kitbashed well with the Norscan team for Blood Bowl. It also strikes me that those Darkoath riders could be converted into really sweet-looking centaurs.
Speaking of centaurs, I would like to see Centigors brought back.

Centigors do have rules in the Old World Beastmen list so they should be rereleased along with the resto of the range.
I would like to see regular Centaurs brought back even if it is only for a Blood Bowl Star Player, as happened with the Zoat.
I could definitely see a centaur in Blood Bowl. In AOS there are the Centaurions and Skaeth, the elf-deer-taur. I would especially want to see more models for Skaeth's fellow Kurnothi.
There was a recent release of a heraldic transfer sheet for Bretonnians in OW, so the community has a closer look at the intricacies Bretonnian heraldry.
Double-post: today the Community has an article on the culture and history of the Darkoath, how they differ from run-of-the-mill Chaos Marauders. There is also a retrospect on the Skaven through the decades. I have at least one of those early metal Skaven, along with some of their oldest plastics. I'm still working slowly on my own Skaven/Ratkin force, kitbashing the two into hopefully a cohesive force.
With the elevated position of the Horned Rat in AOS, I've also pondered about mortal Chaos worshipers pledging themselves to the Rat God, how these could be converted. I'm thinking of a warband of fantasy-scavvies, with were-rats of varying degrees, looking like Verminous Scumm's henchmen. I also recently saw a very cool digital kitbash of a Daemon Prince of the Horned Rat, which I intend to copy at some point.

Triple-post: Some new minis in focus today, such as an awesome Old World style miniature for Grombrindal for the upcoming 500th White Dwarf, and a revamped Skaven Warlock Engineer. I really like this latest version of Grombrindal, in all his movie-poster glory. The Warlock Engineer isn't as dynamic, but he does give me vibes of engineers and strategists of the Empire and Imperial Guard, looking very disciplined in his Mad Science. I am hopeful that he represents what is on its way for higher-ranked Skaven, because he looks both familiar and refined in his wickedness.
Yeah, the Grombrindal model is great, although I think I still prefer the model with Gotrek & Bugman.
The Warplock Engineer is good to, particularly the mechanical rat on his shoulder. Just wish they showed it from a different angle so the Warplock Musket was clearer.
Pinned post updated to add a link to the Warhammer 40K thread.
I wonder about the size-creep in Warhammer, particularly in Blood Bowl. Of the ones I already have, I've noted that the Dwarfs and Middenheimers are roughly a head taller than their OW-equivalents. So I ask Sebastian Gray, since you've painted the Skaven Gutter Runners for BB: How does their size compare to the Clanrats in WHFB? I have a box of those Clanrats and I had intended to kitbash them with Ratkin warriors from Kings of War, though the latter turned out to be as big as Stormvermin.
I don't have any of the current clanrats but they come with 25mm bases while all BB models are on 32mm bases (the same size as Primaris Marines) for comparison. I don't know where my old clanrats are but I put a BB Gutter Runner next to a Mordheim Skaven/WFB Night Runner model and the Night runner was probably a little shorter than the Gutter Runner's shoulder, but the GR was a lot longer.
Alright. I'm trying to gauge the size of BB-Skaven compared to the Ratkin, because the Ratkin are much bulkier than the average Clanrat. I've found size comparisons between Skaven and Ratkin, as well as between Skaven of different era. The most recent Clanrats from 2010 were among the tallest, but they were a bit skinnier than the earlier monkey-paw Skaven. Yet the tallest current Clanrats are still a bit shorter than the runtiest of Ratkin. The BB-Skaven are so dynamic in motion, so I'd like to convert them all into Gutter Runners and Night Runners. I'm thinking of getting myself some of the pre-Stormfiend modular Rat Ogres, because even though the models are a bit unwieldy, they could be kitbashed well with my Nightmares.
I am not sure how they would fit with the Ratkin scalewise, but I would say that the main problem with using the BB Gutter Runners (and a lot of the other BB Skaven) would be that their longer tails would make them a pain to rank up.
With unit fillers, perhaps? I coul craft either bits of rooftoops, city-walls, or sewer-tiles, all of them at different heights? Having the BB-skaven standing at different heights could make them rank up better.
Double-post: Time to make the angelic inspiration of the Stormcast more obvious with Prosecutors. I'm pretty sure people will use these models to convert Blood Angels characters and units with wings.

GW retires miniatures for 40K ever couple of editions so it was about time to do that with AoS. It is a little disappointing that the Beasts of Chaos arn't going to be continued in AoS though as I was actually more interested in them there than in Old World for some reason.
