I'd recommend ITV's Police Camera Action.

It's a documentary, but isn't always about motoring - covers the emergency services too, and there's even a Highlander-esque parody in one 1998 episode about road rage.

Sadly though... it's not on any major platform like Hulu or Netflix and ITV 4 stopped airing it in 2014, so not much chance to see it.

So I liked Firefly. But it was short. What else can I watch? I felt so happy. Now I feel so empty.

Have you already seen Cowboy Bebop and Farscape?

You could watch Whedon's other shows, if you haven't seen them. Even Dollhouse gets pretty good about halfway through the first season, and gets great later on.

[up][up]Buffy and Angel are the closest in terms of dialogue, though they obviously constitute a serious investment (12 seasons).

I will also second Cowboy Bebop, though that trends more bittersweet.

For more "team of specialists not on the up-and-up", you could try Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which is 2 seasons.

It's the True Companions underdogs who keep getting underestimated by all and yet keep winning (or at least surviving), have extremely good chemistry with each other, and crack hilarious jokes very often, while being very emotional and relatable.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Definitely going to tout those same series again, if you haven't seen them. You will probably like Buffy and Angel for their character dynamics and humour. And as far as underdog crews are concerned, Farscape and Cowboy Bebop are right up there. They don't crack quite as many jokes as in a Joss Whedon show (who ever does), but they're pretty funny when they do.

I've seen Bebop but it always struck me as being much better at being sad than funny. "Happiness is just a word for me, and it might have meant a thing or two, if I had known the difference..."

Say, are there any crossover fics?

I guess I'll give Buffy a chance, but I'm told it's a straight descent into gratuitous and sadistic tragedy and that later seasons are weak.

It's definitely more sad than funny, but I always felt like that just made the funny moments— and they are there— stand out all the more. It's not a comedy, by any means, but some moments are hilarious— Spike when he's being a happy-go-lucky lunkhead instead of a morose former hitman, Jet and Faye when their cool exteriors get ruffled, Ed just in general. It's not as funny as Joss Whedon, but comedy is definitely a part of it.

Buffy delves into some deep dark black comedy around Season 6 or so. I always liked Season 6, but many didn't. It's a horror show, though, so expect some darkness.

I occasionally enjoy legal dramas. I haven't found any fun ones recently. Suits's hardly legal anymore and the Good Wife and it's follow up have ended for now. What's everyone's favourite recent show of the genre? I prefer good writing over hyped out drama or constant huge twists.

I want to get into some live action TV shows because I don't follow any at all and I want to fix that. Recommend me anything with stacks of Sci-fi or Fantasy in it (preferably sci-fi).

[up][up][up] A really good sci-fi show running right now is The Expanse. And it’s only got 23 episodes in two seasons right now (season three starts up early next year) so it isn’t a huge time investment to get caught up.

In terms of older stuff, Farscape (this one was made in part by the Jim Henson company. Two of the regulars are very high-quality puppets), Babylon 5, the various Stargate shows (although Universe doesn’t really have an ending and Atlantis has a pretty abrupt ending), the Battlestar Galactica remake is interesting, even though it kind of drops the ball later on and, of course, the various Star Trek shows. They kind of vary in quality though.

There’s a lot of science fiction TV out there. Lots of fantasy too, but a majority of both types are usually set in the modern day with something specific being the sci-fi element. Like Person of Interest or Fringe. There’s a set of four shows the Sy Fy channel did for a while and they’re all interesting at least. Warehouse 13, Eureka, Alphas and Haven.

And I second the Good Place. It’s hilarious.

Hey, I'm looking for examples from TV shows, animation or live action, who's been dealing with the act of watching tv as one does today - via netflix and other streaming services, binge-watching, trying to find a way to watch without an actual tv... one example I have is the ethan around plot in Bojack Horseman. there's also the way Big Mouth makes fun of the fact the viewers binge-watch the show, when a charcter start talking about the cool plot we will get to see in the next episode. Any Ideas?

Dead thread. Here goes anyways...

Anyone know of any good war documentaries available on Netflix or Prime Video? I'm looking to write a story but am having trouble coming up with an inciting incident and a conclusion.

I'm looking for a modern tv-show with a Genre Anthology format of either Science Fiction or Horror. To make it clearer, I already watched The Twilight Zone, Night Visions, The Haunting Hour, Tales From The Cryptkeeper and Tales From The Darkside.

The Fugitive? Not the film. The tv show with David Jensen and Barry Morse. It’s my favourite show. It takes itself more seriously than Buffy or Angel, but like those shows, it has a good balance of drama, action and humour. A bit dated and formulaic by today’s standards, it was ahead of its time back in the day and influenced later shows such as The X Files and Supernatural. I think it was also the first series to get an ending. If you like thrillers, it’s worth a watch.

Which one should I watch, Suits or White Collar?

For reference, I've finished Burn Notice and Person of Interest, watched up to season 4 of Leverage and Series 4 ep 2 of Sherlock. Although I do find them all flawed in different way, particularly how I find the final seasons very underwhelming for the first two series I mentioned, but I enjoyed all four of them at least to some degree.

Ideally, I could just watch both of them but I have already too many movies and tv-series in my watchlist as I do already. XP
