Synchtube Tropers (Riff on Videos and Movies)

Talk about odd. I just remembered about the “Donald Trump Thematic Trilogy” we did back in 2016 during that fateful weekend, including ‘’American Psycho’’ and ‘’Bob Roberts’’, and now look where we are.

What's the joe biden film series? Children of Men? The Irishman? Get Out? High Rise? The Big Short? The 13th? The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisies?

So. It's been a long time but I'm going to make it today. I'll try to become more regular for the coven. It's not a bad place to be and I think I should have tried a bit more.

I just have, like, a ton of work to make-up for school and I have really crappy time management skills.

I don't know how anyone's gonna make it today when it hasn't been happening for weeks...

But I think, given the optimistic mood everyone seems to be having lately, maybe it's a good time for a resurgence in the coven?

Stuff like this is exactly why I kept having to beat you over the head about more people striving to be personally involved. You want to watch a movie with a group of people, and yet you still expect somebody else or some other group of people do the actual work to make that happen, rather than take more direct action yourself. It's this very kind of sentiment and slack from people who supposedly "care" about this activity without changing any of their old behaviors that has left me tired out in the first place.

On a personal note, I will share that in the past few weeks since I've reclaimed more of my evenings, I've felt a lot more liberated. I went on a wonderful weekend trip upstate to Woodstock, had a great Halloween night away from the computer, started dining out more often, begun reclaiming my IRL social life, and found more time to do so many other things. Overall, I'm feeling much happier and much more relaxed, and I'd much rather stick with that.

If you're really itching to get a group and watch a movie together so badly (Again, it doesn't seem very likely to happen when, obviously, nobody else here is in a mood to actually put in the work to organize anything toward that end), then I'd suggest somebody else step up and begin a brand new thread with a fresh start and the opportunity to establish and form an altogether "new" troper subculture. Remember deep seeded roots and origins here, if you must, but leave this group as you once knew it retire peacefully.

For the record, I still think about this group sometimes; I just can't make it very often because of the day job (I work in bakery, so I need to be up early), and twitch streaming taking up most of my time.

At least we got to do Weng Weng Wednesday and Barbarian Brothers Weekend one last time. I'm really gonna miss those nights in particular. Them and Kung-Fu Fridays.

Though weirdly enough, I'm also gonna miss those nights around Christmastime where we endure the unholy double feature that is the TMNT Christmas special and the Star Wars Holiday Special. Out of all the other bad bad movies, I had the most "fun" suffering through them.

You can't make this stuff up. COOL CAT FIGHTS CORONAVIRUS. Dirty Dog says it's a scam! Derek already blew past his $400 Kickstarter goal (why was it so low?).

He plans to release it for free on YouTube weeks after the backers get to see it first.

A brief note for anyone still hanging around- I was pleasantly surprised to get Drive (the Dacascos one, of course) picked for Cinemaquestria's weekly movie night a while back. I don't know about organizing any new streams, but I'd be glad to have any of you looking for more opportunities to chat and riff over movies (who has access to Discord) drop by there, BN Theater or Bronystate sometime. (And no, despite the names, there's far more shown there than My Little Pony, though it is part of the culture.) Anyone can submit potential film choices as well (though they may be slightly more restrictive content-wise than we were).

Not a brony, but joining these movie groups without commitment sounds like something I might be up for doing once in a while. And if the variety of movies is limited (I'm gonna guess they aim for more family-friendly or PG13 at most?), I'm actually fine with that; our group had a focus on action and schlocky horror and the like, and I wished for more variety, enjoying some of the action and horror a lot, but also really enjoying some of our Lifetime dramas and comedies and family movies too.

It's not too restrictive really- there are frequent enough Rs (BN Theater had Demolition Man last week for instance), but something like the gorier giallos might be pushing it. (Bronystate showed BrainDead once, and apparently there was some debate over it beforehand, so that might give an idea of the upper bound, though Repo! The Genetic Opera and Lost Highway were considered to be too much.)

Sounds pretty good to me! I'd be up for joining the Discord server and your group once in a while if I'm ever in the mood to stop by.

I like chill environments, so if it's pretty chill, that's great news for me.

That's about right, though it's a few different groups. They all have Discord links on their main pages, though since BN Theater is on Cytube the main chat is right there, and the others have embed options.

Last night, I had a dream that reminded me of y'all, and I just had to come back to share it.

I was watching this terrible movie called "Young Guns", which I remember as being like some sort of police training video for "what to do when the Rocky Horror Picture Show comes to town" or something like that? Anyway, the only thing I remember about this movie I dreamed is that about 30 minutes in, they cut to a shot of Ice-T in this garish blue polo and standing in front of a soccer goal somewhere, and he's doing the Urban Menace intro.

Anyway, I hope y'all are doing well. I know we've not talked in a while, but I remember Synchtube quite fondly

Yeah, I have fond memories of this group also. It's a shame it split up the way it did, but that was inevitable. Things like this don't last forever.

What movies have you guys seen recently btw that you've liked? I really liked A Quiet Place and especially the sequel (though I feel they could have gone a bit further with originality with their storytelling, but they did do good things with the premise), and I really liked The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

Honestly, I don't watch movies very often (never really did aside from this group lol)? Mostly I read, or listen to music, or just keep refreshing the same four or five tabs over and over. The only thing I can think of that I've seen in the past few months is But I'm a Cheerleader, which I really enjoyed.

I feel like I stopped coming to this group more than just on occasion soon after starting college, so it's weird to think that I've already graduated and am mostly done with grad school lol. Only major development in my life other than that is I'm trans now (I think I might have come for one or two movies after that, but using a different username? I definitely remember watching Cats).

Wow, been a while since I saw this thread.

I'd say the main thing that's happened in my life since I was last in a ST meet is that I stream now (not major numbers, but I hang out with other Z-tier streamers, and the like). Mostly video games and TTRPGs.

Also, I'm hot now.

Not meaning to necro a thread, but things have been going steadily for me. I’ve been holding the same job for the past six years, last year I took a trip to Niagara and upstate New York (where I got to see Margaret Cho perform live), I’m going to my old anime convention for the first time since before the pandemic. I’m also, for my summer vacation, going to the Shenandoah Valley and the Virginia tristate area. Movies? Other than Avatar and Super Mario Bros in theaters, are Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, and Across the Spider-Verse, the latter of the two, even though they’re Marvel movies, are fantastic. At home I’ve done a rewatch of the Indiana Jones series before the new one comes out, A Few Good Men, First Blood, and some of the early Godzilla sequels past Raids Again for the first time. Mostly I’ve been doing a lot more reading, drawing, walking, and catching up on my Switch library.
