And you thought I was being glib.
My various fanfics.Oh, calm down.
Anyway, even disregarding that, there's the fact that untrained wizards' magic tends to go out of control when they get emotional and what-not, and being Muggle-born, magic going out of control would no doubt cause multiple breaches of the Statute of Secrecy. If I was the Ministry employee sent to clean up those messes, I'd tell the kid to go the fuck to school - I have better things to do then to constantly deal with a kid who thinks they're too good for Hogwarts, and sooner or later they're going to get someone killed.
Yeah, that puts things into perspective a little.

Oh God! Natural light!I wonder if private magic tutors are a thing in the Potterverse, because that strikes me as being a reasonable solution to the "teach young wizards to control their abilities even if they don't want to get involved in the larger magical community" problem.
Well, see, that would involve the Wizarding world acting with a modicum of sense.
My various fanfics.Wizards are just generalist Mutants. And Patrick Stewart is miffed he never got offered to play Dumbledore.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. There isn't any correlation between lack of training and frequency of accidental magic, as far as I know.
Anyway. I was asking because while I was bored on an hour-and-a-half long train trip today, I amused myself with this thought: what if, instead of Petunia being jealous of Lily having been a witch while she never could be, Petunia actually got her own Hogwarts letter back in the day but refused to go because she was scared and took Lily going without her when her own time came as a personal betrayal of her sister choosing being special over her own family? She thinks Lily was self-centered and never actually cared, considering how readily she ditched her family for random strangers just because she had something in common with them - something Harry rubs into Petunia's face day by day with his mere existence.
Alternatively, keep the jealousy factor but instead of Petunia being jealous of Lily for having had something Petunia never could, she's instead jealous because she passed up her own chance and by the time she started to regret it years later, it was already too late because she was 1) too old to enter Hogwarts and 2) as inspired by , her family had neither the cash nor the connections to get tutors and Petunia's pride kept her from asking Lily for help. So it's Petunia's own damn fault, but she's split between admission and denial of the Tall Poppy Syndrome kind.

Hello, I literally know nothing about Harry Potter fan fiction, so forgive me if this question concerns a really obscure fanfic, but there's a works page on the wiki that's got serious Zero Context Example problems. The page was brought up in the ZCE clean-up thread and in the crash rescue thread, and since it hasn't been fleshed out at all, the question of cutting the page outright has been brought up.
The page is The Changeling. The description itself seems fine, but the tropes list is full of Zero Context Examples despite the page being created in April 2017. (Courtesy links to the aforementioned threads: ZCE thread and crash rescue thread)
So the question is: Can anyone here help flesh the tropes list out? Has anyone here already read it or would like to read some of it to help flesh out the page?
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyYou know, I was kind of disappointed that they didn't give the US a Wizarding public school system. Boarding schools are really more of a European thing, after all.
Seventeen Seventy Six! New York City! "Pardon me, are you Aaron Burr, sir?"
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I've written a trilogy of stories about two rival Hogwarts prefects. The first story is also a self-insert fic which I know is not to everyone's taste but I like to think I made up for that in the following stories.
Note: Due to some mature content, you have to have an Archive of Our Own Account in order to read them.
Hello A muggleborn can refuse the Hogwarts letter. There is a boy the same age as Harry, probably Justin Finch-Fletchley? And he says, he thought very hard about refusing, because he considered going to Oxford(?) instead.
A little while back, I came across an HP fanfic that was essentially a retelling of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Harry/Indy, Ron/Sallah, Hermione/Henry, etc.) It was an interesting idea, and as a result, I've occasionally pictured scenes from other movies/TV shows/books/etc. with characters from the Potterverse.
For instance, a couple scenes from The Godfather, with Sirius Black in the role of Michael. From there on, it was easy to decide on a few substitutes (ex. James/Sonny, Remus/Tom Hagen, Lily/Kay). "I know it was you, Peter. You broke my heart." note
Now, I'm going to ask you that question once more. And if you say no, I'm going to shoot you through the head. - John CleeseI've done that occasionally for Les Mis, with Sirius as Valjean, Lily as Fantine, Harry as a genderbent Cosette, and Ginny as a genderbent marius.
There was an update to the Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past fan fic a few months ago, but now the whole fic seems to have been deleted. Does anyone have a clue as to why?
Optimism is a duty.I have no idea. The author's other works are still up, there's no announcement on his website, and the forums only have a single topic talking about it but that's just asking what happened.
I happen to have all but the most recent chapter downloaded. Shame I didn't grab the most recent.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!It was a Frameup. Someone reported the story as containing copyrighted lyrics when it did not. https://www.reddit.com/r/HPfanfiction/comments/bnn91w/harry_potter_and_the_nightmares_of_futures_past/en98jbh/
My guess is someone was jealous of how popular it was, or it's a troll. Do you think it'll happen to other big HP fics too?

The Protomen enhanced my life.A human really ought to check out these requests BEFORE deletion, instead of just having the system auto-nuke it.
Optimism is a duty.Hopefully it can get restored!
The Protomen enhanced my life.Surely the author still has the original?
Always save an offline copy of your work, kids!
Optimism is a duty.Even if, for some absurd reason, he doesn't; there are enough people that do.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Yeah, that reddit thread has at least 4 backups!
The Protomen enhanced my life.I suspect that there are more than a few fanfic authors who assume that whatever they upload will be on there forever, and think they don't need a backup.
Optimism is a duty.I'm looking for fics, continue this list : https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13161929/1/Invincible https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9443327/1/A-Third-Path-to-the-Future https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11191235/1/Harry-Potter-and-the-Prince-of-Slytherin https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12772385/1/FILFY-teacher https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13034223/1/A-Discordant-Note https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12740667/1/The-Mind-Arts https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11577249/1/Magic-of-the-Force https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11669575/1/For-Love-of-Magic https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12658100/1/Harry-Potter-Alteran-Part-2 https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12040341/1/The-Stars-Alone https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12369075/1/Harry-Potter-Alteran https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11913447/1/Amalgum-Lockhart-s-Folly https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9754483/1/Para-Bellum https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5511855/1/Delenda-Est https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5931066/1/Oma-s-Choice https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7718942/1/Broken-Chains https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6562075/1/Isis-s-Bane-and-the-Goblet-of-Fire https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4564885/1/Isis-s-Bane-A-New-Home https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4564882/1/Isis-s-Bane-Tar-Chell-s-Wrath https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4564625/1/Isis-s-Bane
Note: I don't want to read trash fics like Harry Crow, Wizard Runemaster or overrated ones like Methods of Rationality, Natural 20
Has anyone ever spun the trope Badly Battered Babysitter into a Harry Potter plotline? Some poor secret agent guardian angel working behind the scenes to keep Harry Potter alive at the cost of their own personal injury?
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.
...that's such a ridiculous load of "everyone who doesn't belong to my Mary Sue Species sucks" bullshit that I'd self-immolate in shame if I would've been the one to come up with it.
Seriously. I'd rather die than to come up with such blatant authorial fiat.
