Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. Gender Flip. Harem Anime. Go.

I can't really say anything about this that I didn't already in the review I posted. Never read any Sangoku-related material before this so maybe I'm missing out on the references, but I can't help but think that it would poison my memory of the original forever. Maybe it's best to describe it as salted popcorn - tastes great on the first handful but then your mouth starts to get salty and cracked, and then you can't really eat any more. I'm hoping Shin Koihime gets the localization treatment, it seems like basically an improvement over the first one in every way.

Anyone else played it? Thinking about playing it? Thoughts?

Only ever watched the anime, which I found to be great. I want to play this, but I don't have any way to that. Really sucks, it sounds fun.

I played up to the battle with Enshou in the first VN, and I'm halfway through the second season of the anime. And I played the sneak peek beta for the web-game.

Shuri is my favorite in the original, though I like plenty of loli strategists that debut in Shin, like Fuu.

So what held you back? I remember the pacing was pretty slow after a major enemy is defeated, at least until the next campaign season.

That's a tall order for me. I mean, look at my warlord lineup. Most of my favorite Koihimes fall in the loli/petite category. Even fan favorite Sousou qualifies.

Anyway, I guess I forgot to mention (or that part of my post got mysteriously deleted), but it wasn't so much that I was held back by the series itself that I was caught up in a ton of other things at the time and never got back to it.

Yeah, I guess Karin would be my one exception. As a general rule I find lolis really irritating and can't understand the romance between man and loli. Also, I don't really want to fall afoul of the new content regulations, especially since I only just found out about it last week. Also, Sei is best character .

Well, almost everyone I know hates Rinrin, myself included. Except Mangagamer and some of its audience, I guess. Why she had a main route in the original is beyond me. At least Shuri was mature in that sense.

But like, even other lolis who are just as immature as Rinrin, like Shaoren, or Nenene in Shin (the latter acting virtually the same as her, just having a slightly different background), are still better than her. Maybe it's Rinrin's voice or something.

And Sei, while I admit to being both badass and funny, isn't my top choice for waifu material.

I don't know, there was just something about Shaoren I found more endearing, although I see what you mean about how she was just as immature as Rinrin. Absolutely. Keifa just creeps me out when her obsession isn't being played for comedy and I question whether Totaku had a personality at all. If she did, I don't remember. Then there's Shoukyou and Daikyou. Well, the less said about them the better, as far as I'm concerned.

None of them can hold a candle to Ryofu in the cuteness department.

My guess as to why Rinrin had a main route is that Aisha, Rinrin, and Shuri are as close as you can get to "main characters" in Romance. I don't think they thought very far beyond that.

I admit to being biased for Keifa for the sole reason that she's voiced by one of my most favorite eroge seiyuu (Miru/Oma Ichimura). That, and she has a neat hat... thing. Her man-hating masochistic personality is blah, though eventually making her dere is arguably worth it.

Toutaku had the puppy-eyes thing going for her. Not much else beyond that, but eh.

Wait, Keifa becomes dere? I mean, I've finished that arc and I didn't really notice. She was still stuck in psycho hate mode.

Hm interested in playing this. Are there any games in the franchise that goes the anime route and doesn't include a male lead though?

No. As stated on the article, the first game is about Kazuto essentially usurping the role of Ryuubi in the story whereas in Shin he has the option to join one of the three factions and Ryuubi actually makes an appearance.

"Dere" in the sense that she, like every other girl, wants Kazuto's dick, to some degree.

I know in the original, the main reason for this is Karin pushing her to do it. Dunno about later games.

Oh god, Shin basically IS better in every way. Since it was divided up into the three separate factions, there's a lot more time to feature each individual character. More music, more CGs, the art quality is definitely a lot tighter, battles have some semblance of tacticalness about them, more generals, more Karin, more EVERYTHING. Also no sign of Saji, yet, so I can still hold on to hope that they got rid of him. I really hope it gets translated at some point. Hell, I'll take a few years, learn Japanese, and do it myself.

I am going to force myself to power through this. They cut this Kazuto guy from the anime, right? I can see why. Bland and willing to stick his dick into anything with a pulse and boobs no y chromosomes. And I think one of those twins Shuuyu sent was actually male so maybe he just doesn't like Chousen.

Not as bad as I expected, but Yue and Shuri give me the creeps. Chouhi too, but she's less glaring. Where is the 'I don't want to be a pedophile that sleeps with subordinates' option? I guess once I realized what the writers had done to Lu Bu and Cao Cao I kind of abandoned all expectations.

I think my feelings on the main cast can be summed up with my realization that when Kazuto wants to go out and buy ink I want him to just buy the ink instead of seeing the girls go around doing their thing. Sousou, Ryofu and Sonken are okay, though. ...Well, Sousou is kind of creepy thanks to Keifa. And Sei isn't bad, I suppose. The game is really bad at how it distributes events though and uses its non core cast outside of bonus scenes. Yue and Ei have so many scenes that despite picking them every time to get them out of the way I still didn't finish before taking out Go while Ryofu had about half of that and despite being the best warrior on the team never showed up outside of her scenes. I mean, they did bring her to the battles right?

... Koihime Musou is attempting to pull off metafiction? I mean, I know the clues for it were there from the beginning but... It's Koihime Musou. And a oiled musclebound flamboyant naked gay guy is explaining it. I guess this explains why Kazuto is so bizarrely popular: He's the main character of a porno and thus people are forced to be attracted to him.

Unrelated to the story (which is okay, I guess) but wow this background music keeps making me think of the song ABC.

All done. I don't get what the point of bringing back Kuosonsan and especially Shuuyu in the harem ending was, though. And the whole Enshou saga thing that made up the primary part of it was kind of dumb.

I suppose Koihime Musou was better than I was dreading at least though it has way too many little girls in it. I'll admit that I'd also like to see Shin Koihime Musou to see more focus on the characters that I actually liked, few of whom were associated with the main faction.
