fDestruction and Death being separate makes enough sense in the context that Sandman is a DC Comics work, and the DCU was a very anthropic setting, even back then. However, Destruction being less than Death less so. Unless you count the Cosmic Entities like The Endless, the large majority of existence is still un living matter. Genius Loci aside, these things are still contained by un living matter, however incalculable in scope. Even counting things like The Endless, their positions continue on, even after they die, so death being supreme doesn't really hold weight to me, not over such a similar concept. Furthermore, they're already narrative foils enough. Death is a Cool Big Sis, friendly, helpful, teaching, approachable. Destruction is distant, hating himself for what he is and does. It'd be more interesting to make them equals, in my opinion.

All the same, despite my issues, that's one part of Sandman I wouldn't touch. The only thing, at the moment, that I can think of going after is Fury, and even then, knowing she has a happy ending I'd reconsider until I've read it. On the off chance I did work for DC or otherwise gain a DC license, A version of Fury who is the daughter of Diana Prince and Steve Trevor would be something I'd be interested in writing. So much of the Wonder Woman stuff is so underdeveloped, and as a fan I'd be fine with just waiting for someone else to do a good job with it but it often ends up with Fury suddenly being part of some legacy we never heard of and being a bitter, psychologically damaged old woman who commits horrific crimes! I'm not sorry in calling that illogical development. I was one calling for more use of Hellenstic mythology in Wonder Woman stories too, but that doesn't mean I can't call out New 52 when it does just that, but doesn't do it well. Maybe I was partly to blame there, assuming DC actually was aware of my words and took them to heart, for not being clear enough on how I felt classical mythology should have been more strongly implemented. With Fury I definitely recognize it's not all Gaiman's fault, in Sandman's page, even the totally on "Crisis", but I nonetheless don't find Sandman's developments satisfying ones for Diana's daughter and can't see why Neil Gaiman should be able to stop anyone from trying to write Diana's daughter.

I respect Sandman. At the moment there's no other part of it I'd want to contradict, especially if Gaiman is defensive of it. Angle Man just got retconned as "discovering part of the anti life equation, gaining reality warping powers and triangle obsessed madness! I still don't get DC writers' obsession with Fourth World, their almost collective inability to get its concepts right, and baffled by that particularly unnecessary retcon to a golden age villain. Angle Man isn't a perfect character or even an ideal Wonder Woman enemy, but he's perfectly serviceable. A criminal mastermind is convinced he knows all the angles, that he can find the correct approach to any problem, but he gets trounced by a woman as wise as Athena and or her support group. He then tries to even the odds with a reality warping tool, to counter her inhuman wonder powers, but too bad, she's still too smart and or too connected, he still loses. You know what won't make that better? Anything Fourth, but fine add it anyway. Angle Man still thinks he needs more power, so he starts making deals with New Gods, stealing or trying to duplicate their tech, whatever. Adding Fourth World to past events it didn't need to be in just adulterating the concepts of Fourth World and Wonder Woman. But wait, there's more! The fearsome new Wonder Woman villain apparently can't get anything done without Darkseid's daughter, who doesn't have the decency to stay in prison for another year or ten! I agree with these developments, in a sense. New gods should give Diana pause, new god equations should be beyond earthly thinkers. But how does one see the angler and think "anti-life"? Hasn't the angler been stolen and used by another character, an Anglette, already?(yes) Aren't there enough evil counterparts to Diana already, enough classical gods to make an evil Wonder Woman out of if there must be another, and endless possibility for entirely new Wonder Woman characters to trademark? Doesn't Darkseid have enough kids? Can Fourth World just stay in its own own books, or at least in the JSA/JLA/Summer Crossover books, please? My critiques of Sandman are genuine, but I don't want The Endless to go the way of Fourth World. The parts of the DCU I feel can do without The Endless, I might consider tinkering around with those, I might have to some more reading, but I'm sure where The Endless don't encroach I wouldn't encroach on them. Death>Destruction. If it really started bugging me enough I'd create my own concept thingy where Death<Destruction or Death=Destruction.
