I could see Burton not wanting to be the guy they defaulted to after the anti-Semitic misogynist yuppie conman didn't work out, seems kind of insulting.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Netflix saves the NBC series Manifest for a fourth and final season. Thus, another case of streaming services appealing to vocal fandoms to revive a series.
A canceled broadcast series finding a home is extremely rare. Manifest‘s resurrection is outright improbable because it came after Warner Bros TV had already concluded its campaign to find a new network partner following the series’ cancellation by NBC. The studio made that call on June 21 after exhausting all options and following days of conversations with Netflix which ended in the streamer passing on the show after a deal between the two sides appeared out of reach.
However, united by the #Save Manifest movement, fans continued to rally behind the show, with Rake encouraging them on Twitter to “keep the faith.” Fueled by the fan campaign, Manifest Season 1 and Season 2 viewership kept surging on Netflix in the U.S. Since its launch on the streamer in June, the thriller drama logged four consecutive finishes atop the Nielsen weekly streaming ratings and a record six-week streak of more than 1 billion minutes viewed. (Season 3 was added on the U.S. service last weekend as the deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. TV was in the final stretch.)
Manifest‘s incredible ratings resilience on Netflix led to the stunning reversal, with both Netflix and NBC/Peacock last month expressing interest in picking up the show. Netflix quickly emerged as the leading contender with its offer for more episodes at a higher license fee and has been negotiating exclusively for the last couple of weeks.
I wonder if Netflix uncancelling high profile shows (Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Lucifer (2016)) actually is a better business decision that continuing their lower-key releases. I understand why they do the latter from a $$$ perspective, but surely the former ain't cheap.

Peacock's upcoming series, The Lost Symbol, based on the novel of the same name by The Da Vinci Code's Dan Brown and featuring Ashley Zukerman as Robert Langdon rather than Tom Hanks, is giving us a puzzle...
Figure out the missing characters in the YouTube link to find...something.
Or...you can play dirty and just click here. It's an unlisted clip of the first episode. Already it proves to be far more gore-y than the Tom Hanks movies ever were. Not sure if it's "subscribe to Peacock right now" levels of worth it, though.
David Tennant is starring in an adaption of Around the World in Eighty Days produced for PBS.
It looks like it will be an 8-episode miniseries.

In addition to Driver, the upcoming "gamer-centric" streaming service Binge will be adapting System Shock as a live action series.
“I’ve always believed that a live action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror,” added Kick. “We’re very excited to see the talented team at Binge bring System Shock to life in horrifyingly real and new ways.”
“System Shock is an iconic franchise adored by gamers for more than two decades and a series that helped redefine what it meant to play an FPS,” said Ungar, Binge’s Chief Content Officer. “We’re excited to do right by the franchise – and the genre – in bringing System Shock to life. The series joins Binge’s original content slate ahead of its 2022 launch. System Shock will stream exclusively on Binge, which seeks to create high-quality content for gamers.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios will work with Viacom CBS to develop originals for its various networks and properties, including Paramount Plus, the companies announced today.

What's a good show on television right now that's not an adaptation?
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.i am begging someone on these forums to watch Succession
Any genres you like?
Something that is a fictional narrative, not a reality show.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.I think most of the original TV shows I watched this year have been comedies and that it's been a great year for female-led ones. Heartily recommend We Are Lady Parts. Only Murders in the Building and Girls5eva are really charming, though very steeped in the pop-culture zeitgeist. I'm enjoying The Great and Dickinson (which are technically historical fiction, but with heavy emphasis on the 'fiction'). What We Do in the Shadows is reliably a ton of fun.
If you like "rich people suck" type of TV I genuinely think Succession deserves the hype it gets. The White Lotus less so but still enjoyable.
I also really liked Reservation Dogs. Not a lot of shows with that topic.

A show inspired by The Goonies is in development at Disney+. It’s not a sequel or remake. It’s about some kids making their own remake of the film. https://deadline.com/2021/12/goonies-film-re-enactment-drama-development-disney-plus-fox-pass-1234891797/
Disney+ has previously done the "Meta Fiction remake" gimmick with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
I'll check out Only Murders in the Building.

Here's something that sounds promising: Murderville, a procedural where a detective played by Will Arnett solves murders with a different celebrity guest every episode. Said celebrity guest does not have the script and has to improvise their way through the murder. Confirmed guests so far include Kumail Nanjiani, Annie Murphy, Conan O'Brien, and Sharon Stone.
NBC has ordered a pilot for a Quantum Leap sequel series.
X2: Murderville's concept sounds ripe for funny improv moments, so I'm keeping an eye on it.

Netflix subscriptions are getting another price hike in the United States.
- Basic: $10 per month from $9
- Standard: 15.50 per month from $14
- 4K: $20 per month from $18
Prices for a Netflix plan have steadily gone up in recent years. The standard plan went to $14 per month from $13 in late 2020, after previously rising to $13 from from $11 in 2019. Prior to that, Netflix raised prices in 2017 and 2015. When Netflix announced its first wide-scale price increase in 2014, the company was so worried about losing subscribers over a $1 per month bump that it let existing members keep their price for two years. It hasn’t offered such a generous perk in the years since.
The TV License fee in the UK is expected to be retired around 2027, according to The Guardian. The fee has generally been a source of funding for BBC programming, but has attracted some controversy in the past due to its enforcement among other issues. The website has also detailed its own alternatives on how the BBC can secure funding when that time comes.
