is it disappointing that I'm only 15 and I was doing better in PE that a 17 year old who wanted to join the millitary? he was complaining at 20 regular pushups... I did 20 in cadence, (1, 2, 3, 1; 1, 2, 3, 2... etc...)so I actually did 40 regular... and the bulk of them were within 40 seconds... then he was complaining at 20 situps, I was using most of my energy to keep my feet down, and I still beat him with 33...

For those who asked, "hyperlexia" is the exact opposite of "dyslexia": hyperlexics were born to read. I and chihuahua 0 are living proof. (Give me a high five, now.)

Anyhoo, I gots Asperger's :3, was diagnosed with it in ninth grade. I actually read about it in "Autism for Dummies" and I noticed that a lot of the qualifications fit me even before Mom sent me to get an evaluation. Mom wasn't that surprised, actually. She knew I was weird kid to begin with, she would tell you loads of stories about my weirdness and at how I wasn't the baby girl she was excited to have (hated frilly dresses as a baby).

So yeah. *huddles in corner to play Pokémon*

Aspie. Don't know exactly when I was diagnosed, only that it was quite young. Slowly learning to overcome the shortcomings of it. And frankly, I think I prefer this to neurotypicality.

Asperger's, diagnosed at 12 after moving away from a very rural town, extremely introverted IRL. I've only made a few friends since coming to college, and am failing some of my classes because I can't ask for help.

...and that's terrible.

[up][up]NT's still confuse me sometimes but I've gotten used to their society on part of my parent's refusal to let me use Aspie-ism as a crutch for me in life. They gave me leeway but they expected me to learn to be somewhat normal or at least polite. :p

I have trouble with social situations, so heres what I tend to do... show no emotion, keep a blank face, and try to be respectful, and if someone takes offense at something, tell them you didn't mean to offend them... in fact, generally, when in public, I do my best to feel nothing at all, it's helped me plenty, my thoughts not only stay clear, but I can focus on any situation. It's one of the big reasons that I do so well in all of my classes at school...

Not diagnosed with anything, but tested over and over, because nobody would believe that I didn't have something wrong with me. At this point, I feel like it doesn't even matter what the issue is, just what people assume it to be (most frequently Asperger's, which I've been told three times I don't have.)

I have the feeling I would have turned out relatively normal if I hadn't been such a target in primary school, both for the students and for the teachers. By the time I was removed from the school, I would run in fear if I so much as saw a door open unexpectedly. I've grown less twitchy over the years, but I still react negatively to any attempt to touch me, and I react with surprise whenever someone wants to help me in any way. I've never quite learned small talk, either.

I sometimes wonder if I'm much, much more messed up than I realize—if the only thing that keeps me from seeing how different I am from everyone else is that I'm too used to being like this.

hmmm, I would expect that after what you have been through, it would have been normal for you to have those reations...it's more of a subconcious reaction that those things trigger the fight or flight response for you...

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned yet in this corner - ADD. Nothing has ever come up, but I always feel like the Royally Screwed Up of most places I'm at, even when I'm not with family (I just read the wiki).

Actually my understanding is that there was a difference now. With ADD being characterized by having trouble focusing and tending to drift off, where ADHD is the same except for you want to be doing something else and often get distracted.

Basically, there IS a difference just that for some reason peeople haven't committed to using "ADD" and "ADHD", but still use them interchangeably.

severe ADHD and possible Aspie. I used to take pills for ADHD but according to others on the same meds (they are about 10 years older them me) and does my reactions wasn't how the meds should work with an ADHD mind. I brought it up with my Doc and she said it may be Aspergers and that recently a lot of kids diagnosed with severe ADHD like me have found out its Aspergers and not ADHD at all. this is the article i used before I talked to her about it

Another Aspie, diagnosed sometime as a kid after the teachers started to phone my mum about my troubles with socialising.

I've learned a lot since then but my speech is still the worst- too formal, too loud and too fast all in one package. Hooray.
