Probably because volumes arent that long and a one to one adaptation would be to short for a feature film.
Even the films that are just based on one comic tend to add quite a bit new stuff.
I dont think any of the live-action movies are great, but Mission Cleopatra I find at least an entertaining watch, which is more then I can say for any of the others.

Twelve tasks is probably the exception because there was plenty of room to fill out the story.

The story of that one was original, the comic was an adaptation of the film.

Most of the animated movies mix the plot of two different books together, to the exception of The Twelve Tasks of Asterix and The Secret of the Magic Potion, which have an original plot. I have never been a big fan of the live-action movies, even Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, where the humour feels less like the one in Astérix and more like director Alain Chabat's other works.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.
