The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean.Yeah, got a copy.
I prefer the later callback
Booohoohooo!
Don't worry, you'll find your love again.
So, how were the egyptian's jokes rendered in English?
The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean.Guys, I freaking love Asterix!
I was first exposed to it via the cartoon show, then I started looking for the comic books. Unfortunately, there weren't many Asterix books available in my home country, but I did enjoy Rene Goscinny's other works like Lucky Luke and Iznogood.
Ah, childhood...
Asterix is awesome.
Specifically, it is awesome in how its humour is satyrical while not being at the expense of anyone (except maybe the Obstructive Bureaucrat, "The House That Turns You Mad" indeed XD). It's generally very affectionate, very warm, no matter the subject, even Nazis (having the Romans AND the Goths as their Fantasy Counterpart Culture): "Your life is hanging by a thread, Teleferic!"
The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean. The Egyptian in Asterix The Legionary spoke in rebus bubbles in the English translation, and the joke was sometimes repeated/explained in English by one of the other characters. Like so.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Actually, funny thing Foxxy Mod
The rebus Ptenisnet is using is the SAME as in french, except in french he's called Courtdetenis (Tenis court) rather than Filetdetenis (Tenis net)

Is the rebus bubble in the previous panel the same as well, where he's asking if it's a inn? If so, then I guess the answer is "they're handled the same way as in the French versions".

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I knew a guy in middle school whose mom caught him jacking off to Asterix. That's all I will be made to say on the matter.
Check out my crappy internet band. You mean he was fapping at Asterix, the character, or at some of the girls featured in the comic? Because Falbala is so fapworthy, and so is Aphrodite/Venus and the nymphs from Pleasure Island, there just isn't enough material of them.
The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean.I don't even remember. The whole thing just makes me cringe.
edit: nvm I think it might have been Falbala. Still a weird kid though.

Check out my crappy internet band. Now you're just being prejudiced. Also, if that was all you remembered, then there was no point in you mentioning it in the first place.
In other news, Asterix isn't for shipping or fapping (though the incredible bromance between the uncertainly-aged characters makes this all too easy). Which I think is kinda sad, because the potential for comedy in putting those two in romances or as parents, while briefly brushed upon in Asterix Legionnary, The Rose And The Sword, and Asterix's Son, really wasn't exploited to the fullest.
The potential for drama is massive too, but if you're going to do "Asterix has a dysfunctional family because of all his adventuring and because he is clueless around women" you might as well do "Asterix's hits have realistic effects on the roman's organisms, often killing them outright" or "In the forest of the Druids, they sacrifice virgins to fuel their magic powers".

The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean.x11 Cartoon show? What cartoon show? From Wikipedia, all I can see is a bunch of a animated movies, along with a few live-action ones. Were you talking about the animated films, or is there an actual Asterix cartoon I'm not aware of?

Animated movies, certainly. C'est le lion de Cleopâtre, c'est le roi des animaux...
The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean. In my home country, the movies were shown in parts, so when I was a kid I thought it was a cartoon series.

Makes sense to do that,,,
The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean.I remembered the very first one I watched was "The Twelve Labors of Asterix". Now this one is pretty episodic.

Here we have a channel most people ignore, Tele Quebec. At Xmas, every years, they marathon the Asterix, Tintin and Lucky Luke animated movies, one per evening for all of december. Every year for the past 20 or so. It's a holiday tradition.
Also, "Le Poudding a L'arsenic" (Arsenic Pudding from Asterix And Cleopatra) is so damn catchy. In highschool, me and some friends would get the whole cafeteria (200+ students) to sign it all at once. It's THAT good.
It became so memetic in the province, one of the most famous band in Quebec eventually made their own cover of the song.
The Original in English for those French-Impaired. Still pretty catchy

Can I get access to that channel if I have cable?
Unfortunately, I don't know French, though it would still be nice to watch those again.
It's probably on the internets somewhere.
"And a glassof petroleum...(pours glass empty) naaah, make it two glasses (pours the same glass again without having refilled it)
The Quiet One. No OTT. No unfunny. No squick. No crusades. Harmless and clean.Man, I really should learn French. I love Belgian-French comics, and I want to read them in the original voice.
This will not stand. That series is fun, clever, and awesome, and needs more freaking love.
