All Purpose Naruto Fanfiction Thread

I know there's already a Negima and Madoka Magica Version of this type of thread. But then I though, why not do one for Naruto as well?

I'm brainstorming a For Want Of A Nail fic with Orochimaru as a kid; namely Sarutobi doesn't manage to get Orochimaru's hopes up about the white snake (gets interrupted by Jiraiya and Tsunade who don't really know how to handle a grieving teammate but try anyway, called away for a mission, surprise assassination attempt etc) and then... um, it goes from there. Sadly not a priority fic atm, I have a Uchiha clan ghost story in the works right now.

I'd like to rec Sole by Liliath. Sorta shounen-ai ish (nothing explicit at all) mindscrew with Naruto and Sasuke. Ten chapters of goodness so far.

So long as nobody comes in saying 'OMG Chunin Exam Day is the greatest fanfic ever!' or 'Check out this fanfic where that WHORE Sakura finally gives Naruto his due rewards' or 'I hate Sasuke so here's a fanfic where he gets horribly tortured, lol ain't it funny?', I'll stick around.

Well, I have been checking out a bunch of Naruto and Rosario To Vampire Crossovers. Many of them end up being very similar to each other, but there are a few I enjoy very much.

I reccommend The Fox in hiding by Jincurriki Plus Vampire. It manages to be enjoyable without doing any Tsukune bashing or replacing him with Naruto altogether.

Here's a Naruto/Star Wars crossover that's pretty good.

Instead of becoming Ninja Jesus Naruto becomes the complete opposite thanks to being taught how to use the Darkside of the Force by the ghost of a Sith Lord who's looking to get a body and was drawn to Naruto by the Kyuubi making him a massive beacon of Darkside energy.

It's Darker and Edgier then Naruto canon and starts before Naruto becomes a genin and is currently at the Kage Summit arc.

I can understand Sasuke bashing, so long as it isn't over the top and Forced feeling, but the sheer volume of Sakura bashing is starting to get ridiculous.

Sasuke YMMV is actually kinda of improved over his canon self in it. He still wants revenge, but he stays in Konoha and joins ROOT in an attempt to gain the resources he needs to get it

Until Naruto starts screwing him up as part of a Xanatos Gambit

You know... when I saw that you liked it, I rather expected that.

Team 8 is pretty much the only Naruto fic I've ever bothered to read in any depth, unless you count The Biju Biju Fruit as well, which is more an One Piece fanfic for me.

I should give Vengeance! An Uchiha Musical a try some day, for SCM, but I've been so busy from all sides lately...

There are some good Naruto/ Negima crossovers as well.

That is a huge YMMV. Way too many of them follow the same formula and it gets old (insert Naruto or some other charcters in the begining of the Negima story with some strange plot device, change a few details, steal Negi's harem).

And I love them for it, Because I don't mind it. To be honest, I would probably prefer it if they decided to introduce him in the magic world arc, instead. Of course, I don't mind the type you are decribing either.

This fic is rather interesting. its a What if, in that Sakura actually liked Naruto at first, but merely pretended to like Sasuke as a front.

And she is made as perverted as Jiraiya and more of a stalker styled character than Hinata. The grammar and spelling isn't that great at first but it gets better within the next two chapters.

And he made sasuke a bit nicer too instead of bashing him. EVERYBODY WINS!

I feel the same about Chunin Exam Day as an ordinary biologist would upon witnessing Dr. Frankenstein's lab - appalled at the abominations visited upon the world, but impressed against their will at what they've accomplished.

The author's egotistical nerdrage created a world-spanning fic that gave halfway-plausible reasons for its bashing. What most impresses me was how far he took it, vivisecting every single character he disliked while still being consistent within his own world. I respect that.

I also think that Yet Again is an overrated peice of trash.

What saddens me about Perfect Lionheart in general is how many of his ideas would be fun and hilarious in a self-aware, nudge-wink crackfic story or Black Comedy - like the Colonel Sanders thing in Partially Kissed Hero for instance - but instead he goes on the way he does. It makes me want to slap the hubris out of him.

I've started writing my own Naruto Story with some Bleach elements. Not too many, just the Hogyoku.

Both Chunin Exam Day and PKH basically work like this for me: he has good ideas, decent writing with flashes of really-good, and manages some fairly epic battle sequences, and it's all basically ruined by his inability to get the chip off his shoulder regarding whatever characters and ideas he doesn't like. I read each one once, and enjoyed them, but the idea of rereading them gives me hives (I'm usually an avid rereader.)

I have a Naruto fanfic, linked in my sig. It gives Naruto something like the Eyes of Death Perception from Tsukihime (idea from a challenge by Third Fang). The bit I think is notable is that I'm not making it just "Naruto pwns everyone with this horribly overpowered ability"; he doesn't actually use it that much, and he's more powerful than canon due basically to a nail that happened when he found out about the power a few years before canon start. /plug.

Favorite recent fanfic: Time Braid. Very good writing, which is a rarity; even the ones on the Fanfic Recs pages, which I'm taking to be basically the 10% that doesn't suck, usually don't have anything approaching fluency in writing. It also gives the protagonists godlike power (which is fun) without anything becoming predetermined or making them into sues.

This just a fucking joke, that proves that some people are too whiny and bitchy about the way he makes his series. If you want to do some constructive criticism for the series fine, but don't make yourself sound whiny and bitchy by saying how much ksihimoto sucks ass and ruins his own series, and Is basically a man whore for the uchiha.

You now whos really good at writing Naruto fanfiction as well as crossovers for it, without having to resort to bashing or throwing inrRandom Author tracts?

Apropos of nothing,I think Naruto would make an amazing tabletop RPG. All you'd need to do is slap a diceroll system on and you're good.

Ironic, since kishimoto said that the fighting system in Naruto was based on Final Fantasy and Dragon quest.

Second recommendations for Kenichi618. His 'The Sealed Kunai' left me with this lingering sympathy for Kumo and Yugito Nii which will probably infect any Naruto fic I write ever again. Also, he's rather insanely prolific, which in combination with his status as an actual good writer is a good thing.
