Still haven't published it yet.
Wrote a new thing.
Hope you enjoy Starlight's Support Group For Reformed Villains.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. How long does it usually take everybody else to write their stuff? A month, maybe more?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.I was on a three-week-per-chapter cycle with From Dusk to Night. Two weeks for Necromancer's Ambition. Short stories are highly variable depending on how fully formed the initial idea comes to me, and how the actual first draft looks. Anywhere between one week and two months is what I recall for my basket of miscellaneous one-offers.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiDepends. When my muse hits, I can churn out 10k words in a couple of days, which is the average length of a chapter of mine. Otherwise, it can take months. After that, it's the editing and prereading that sucks up time.
What I wrote most recently was an idea for two years before I actually got it written in about a week, which was followed by a week of prereading and editing.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Estee's latest chapter of Glimmer and dayumn, Also, damn, besides Twilight and Applejack, Estee's Bearers really hate Trixie. Apparently, while NMM and Discord were world-ending disasters, Alicorn Amulet Trixie made it personal by explicitly going after them and theirs. Oh, also Fluttershy is okay with her because Trixie let the beavers go. But Pinkie, of all ponies, seems to especially hate Trixie.
Excerpts:
"— no! Anypony else, Twilight, anypony who might know something about magic! And I mean anypony!" Dense hooves rammed into the ground, and glass vials tumbled from their mountings as water crashed within the troughs. "Didn't Sombra invent a bunch of spells, stuff nopony else could do? Why don't we ask him for some advice?"
You didn't expect rage from Pinkie. They all knew it was possible and somehow it came across as a shock every time, to see what felt like the core of her personality invert —
"He's dead," was all Twilight could initially manage, and she could hear Trixie starting to back up, moving away from the doors. "Pinkie, he's dead —"
"— which means he paid for what he did to the crystals! For all the horror, for the pain, for the torture! What's her price, Twilight? What did she give up for everything she did? Tell me!"
~
"Oh," Pinkie softly said. "You remember the cart? I do. I was there for it. I was there for the first time, too. Do you know why I never said anything, the first time you came through? Because I go to a lot of shows. I'm a party planner, you know. Sometimes I hire entertainment. I'm sure you know how some of them work. They want to prove themselves to the audience, and what's better for doing that than showing up a loudmouth? So they use partners. Temporary ones, if they're traveling. You go up to somepony before the show starts, you offer them a couple of bits, they say something nasty at the right time, and you take them down a few places in the race standings. Audience plants. It's an old trick. And Spike's young, he needs the bits —"
~
"-It's about the act! I tried to tell Twilight, I wrote her about it over and over! When you're on the road, when you get heckled all the time, if everypony in every little flyspeck settled zone is going to try and prove they're better —"
"— then when you find the one who is better," the perfectly reasonable voice of non-Laughter asked, "you look for an artifact and try to kill them with it?"
Did anybody have that sudden realization that they have to write an already existing character and they never actually paid much attention to how the character acts in the show?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.I've had that before. I usually then try to find clips on Youtube or that character's page here on the site to get a feel for them.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.I'm having this problem with Skystar in an AU I'm currently writing (slowly) called Polaris: Hither and Yonder. The nature of the AU means that she wouldn't have loneliness issues, but there's not much to her canon characterisation beyond that, and I don't want to make her a Silverstream clone. I have an idea for her arc — learning that the world is harsh — but I don't know how to write her at the beginning.
I mean, Silverstream is basically a Skystar clone already, so...
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Chapter 8 of The Archmage's Last Bow is now available. Have a read.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. So there's a fic that I had downloaded as an HTML file from Fimfiction.net several years ago and was going to replace with an EPUB file version, only to discover that it has been removed from that site for some reason. What would be the most efficient way to convert my existing HTML version into an EPUB?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Can't speak to the formatting question.
It seemed worth noting (even though I first heard it elsewhere on this wiki) that one of the classic Fimfic authors I followed, Darth Link 22 (writer of The Nuptialverse among others), passed away suddenly last month.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty. In case anyone is looking for some comedy or comic adventure to read, Contraptionology! is a delight. Applejack describing quantum physics isn't a thing to miss.
Has anyone proposed any canadites from fall of starfleet?
The Ultimate Incarnation of EvilThe other day, I got an idea for an AU where the Mane 6 were each stranded in other lands and raised by different species that they have some association with in canon. Currently, my idea is to put Twilight with the dragons (but still with Spike), Pinkie Pie with the yaks, Rainbow Dash with the griffons, Applejack with the zebras (as seen in the comics), Fluttershy with the kirin, and Rarity with the diamond dogs (again drawing from the comics). Their siblings, if applicable, are still in Equestria.
I'm not set on the last two, though, and I'm also not set on the backstory. My most concrete idea is that during "The Cutie Re-Mark", Starlight travelled even further back in time and scattered the Mane 6 across the world as babies so they'd never meet. But in that case, what's stopping her from killing them?
~Meta Four Man, you really should've pinged me to let me know of your reply, because I haven't checked on this thread ever since my last post. Thanks for that suggestion, it worked wonders!
