Well, Duane's brain is long since rotted away, but he still has consciousness. I think this implies that for undead (or partially undead magical constructs) consciousness is anchored in something else. A spirit or a soul perhaps?

Adorable. I don't know what's going on, but adorable.

This is all quite odd. The cast page says that Mathis hates Matty (or at least, that Matty believes Mathis hates him) yet he isn't acting like he hates the boy, and I can't recall him ever doing so.

Matty's entry in the cast page is written from Matty's perspective. He thinks his dad hates him.

Even so, that raises the question of why Matty thinks his dad hates him.
