Of the series that gave us Caboose, Donut, Sarge, Tucker, and Lopez? Good luck with that buddy.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatMaybe you're right..Hey! Don't forget Sister, Doc, Church, Tex, Griff, Simmons, and Wash!
Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand TogetherI chose those guy because they were the craziest or dumbest or Spanishest characters I could think of to demonstrate the irony of a serious discussion of Red Vs. Blue.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatYou are right. Very well let's just throw out serious and descend into madness.
Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand TogetherWell, there are some sort of serious things that can be said about it. One of the things that always wowed me about it was how it started off so simple and relatively mindless but quite good, and could have maybe stayed like that for a while. But instead it evolved into an extremely complex story that actually took itself somewhat seriously, but was still good and funny.
This is the same way I felt near the end of, well, a bunch of things. Lost comes to mind...starts out as just a "bunch of people get stranded on an island" story and eventually turns out be something way more complex. I guess the difference with Rv B is that it started out more or less completely silly.
I really like when a series does that, though. Or at least when it does that well.
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series.Just so everyone knows, there's a trailer for the new season available on Rooster Teeth's site. It appears to be a prequel.
And it looks awesome!
Dreamkeepers Prelude, check it out!I'm not really excited that it's more Freelancer stuff. Or that it doesn't look really funny. Or that the groups might not be together.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.I like the Freelancer stuff well enough. I mean, the whole Red Vs Blue setup seems to exist because of the Freelancers, and most of the 'serious plot' issues seem to have stemmed from them even at the start of the series.
I can understand the other two issues, but I'm willing to withhold judgment on those until the season itself actually comes out. I could see a couple of ways to involve the original group (which itself is linked to the involvement of humor) that don't require massive Retcons. The Reconstruction trailer was pretty serious, but I like that season. For what it's worth, during the clips at the end, there are apparent shots of both teams.
Personally, I think the trailer looked awesome. They really went all-out with the animation for it, though I imagine the season itself isn't going to keep that up consistently.
I like that the plot got a bit more serious, but, to borrow someone else's words, it's starting to run up against Kudzu Plot issues. I know that some stuff is deliberately left up to the viewer to work out, but I'm starting to feel a little too much of the big picture is left only in general hints. A prequel might be a remedy, though in my experience, those have an odd tendency to make everything even more confusing.
I also feel like Tucker's alien plot needs some follow-up. It looked like it was going to be really important in Recreation, but it sort of fizzled out without getting much of a resolution.
Also, just because this post isn't long enough, I should point out that there have been topics for the series, but they presumably got deleted due to inactivity.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.According to some stuff on Burnie's blog, its going to be a mix of prequel Freelancer stuff and Red vs Blue stuff. The Monty-style animation's going to be saved for the Freelancer parts, while the stuff filmed in-game is going to be for the regular Red vs Blue parts. Part of the reason for this is how there's a noticeable shift in art style and consistency between in-game environments and characters and inserted animations. So rather than try and work around that, they're making the animated segments mostly/all animated and the video game segments mostly/all video game-filmed. I'm thinking that the Rv B segments might serve as something of a framing device for the Freelancer Flashbacks.
That said, I'm REALLY looking forward to this season. We get to see more background of the Freelancer program, how characters like Wash were before and during the big shit going down. (I really liked how in-trailer Wash wasn't the same jaded and cynical soldier we see in the later seasons. Going to be interesting seeing him develop into that) I also found Washington's friendship with Maine veeeeeery interesting. Provides an interesting lens with which to view the two's later interactions through.
"Teebs is a total grump, but he's usually right." - NLKYou said very interesting just like Donut. Good times good times.
Stand Fast, Stand Strong, Stand TogetherThat's what I was hoping for.

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)If anyone's interested, Luke Mc Kay has revealed the Meta's face: http://halo.bungie.org/misc/artoflukemckay.html?display=lukemckay4d2911c7e1824
I hope they have some episodes for Maine before he loses his voice, because that would be a cherry on top of an already delicious-looking cake.
"I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal with it!"For anyone who might not have seen it.
Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comSo the first episode of season nine is coming out tomorrow. (Is that a good reason to revive the topic? I think it is.) I can't watch it when it comes out because I have a job. Boo.
So, which team do you think is going to win this season? Red Team is looking pretty good to me. Blue Team is going to have to break in the rookie fast if they want a shot.

You know, as much as I loved Egotistical-and-Strangely-Nice!Church in the last season, I realize now how much I really, really missed Bitchy!Church. He's so much fun.
My GF said she thinks Caboose sounds weirdly like he might be Real!Caboose who managed to go in after Church after all, and I can see why.
And I wonder what the Freelancers' functions are, based on the symbols in that list at the end. (At least, I'm assuming that's what they're for, since York's is a padlock.)
Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)Fuuuuuuuck, I wanted less Church, not a whole goddamn world centered around him. And he better get out of that damn simulation soon, its kinda hard to care if they're not the real characters.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Any links to this?

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)I think Church is okay. I mean, he's not specifically my favorite character or anything, but I don't mind seeing more of him. I do find myself already worrying that we won't get a significant update with the real Blood Gulch crew this season, though. I mean, Wild Mass Guessing aside, the only person in the unit we know is from the original series is Tex.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.I like Church, but I was hoping Season 9 would focus on the continuing missions of the Blood Gulch Crew, now including Wash. Not a retread of the old seasons in the Reach engines with some differences.
Too early to make a judgement call, though, the first episode is probably just setting things up before everything goes Off the Rails.
Edit: I'm not interested in Project Freelancer, either.

It's not over. Not yet.Just gonna throw a wmg out here and posit that Tex's being in the same storage unit as Church may be resulting in some of the differences. For instance, Donut giving orders. He managed to score a direct sticky on Tex, so its entirely possible she was a respect/slight fear of him, most likely subconscious, so that is reflected in his sudden and unexplained rise in the Red Team's chain of command.
"Teebs is a total grump, but he's usually right." - NLKChurch was my favorite character. He was the Only Sane Teamate in the beggining. Season 1 of Red vs Blue was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. After that, it went all M.A.S.H and got boring.
TV Tropes...I am Disappoint. I mean am I seriously the first person here to make a thread dedicated to the awesomesauce that is Red Vs Blue? Anyway, this thread is for discussion of anything related to Red Vs Blue. I am looking forward to some intelligent conversation.
