I'm a Spring. ^_^ Who... can get away with a few Autumn colours (but, not many). But, Summer and Winter colours are generally a no-no. <_< Which is one reason why petite ranges always coming primarily in black ain't good for my ego. tongue

I think I might be a winter? I have really dark eyes and pink skin. I just remember the last time I went somewhere and had someone help me buy foundation, the lady seemed a little confused by my skin. At this point it's my method to just buy the lightest one.

I'm a spring/autumn too Eudia! The only colors that look horrid are oranges and anything winter dark. I have light hair and pinky skin.

Cats, I'd love to see a photo, I'm pretty good with makeup coloration.

I'm a summer/winter. I just have to avoid the yellows.

Nocturna yellows are hard on many people when it comes to makeups. Copper or gold can work better.

Uh, okay. It's hard because colors really change with lighting, so I took two pictures.

here and here.

That I have this thing that looks like rugburn constantly across my nose when I'm not wearing makeup probably confounds the issue.

[up][up] When I said "yellows", I meant any yellows. Including coppers, golds, yellow-greens, and golden browns. I have yet to find a brown eyeshadow set that would actually work. :/

[up] I think purples would work well.

[up]Agreed. And, blues. Also turquoise. smile I suspect I'm looking at a Winter, as well. So... scarlet may well be your friend when it comes to lipstick, Cats. Avoid poppy — however, to nail your season to the wall, try both. If the poppy-red looks like it's floating above your skin rather than working with it, you know you're neither Spring nor Autumn.

And, girl: learn to plaster a smile on those wonderful, full lips of yours. waii Damn, but I'm envious of you for those. (And, you are decidedly not fat.)

I've never really understood the season thing, especially when it comes to make up. I think I'm a winter? But it doesn't really matter much since, outside of foundation to even out my skin tone, I don't really wear make up.

I'm not a color theorist but when you're choosing a color palette, certain colors match and certain colors clash. This isn't obvious when looking at basic primaries but it becomes a lot more obvious when looking at things like warm gray vs. cool gray, etc. Now, they're all gray, but the underlying tone of this is more important when matching things than the overarching tone. This becomes pretty obvious when you're trying to do things like, say, match reds. Just because they're all red doesn't mean they automatically match. So someone decided to split the undertones that people have into four categories and give advice on what colors to wear that way.

I mean it doesn't matter if you don't wear makeup.

The thing is that I'm usually pretty good with this color thing but it's hard to be objective about myself, etc.

It matters outside of makeup. It matters in what color clothes look good on you as well.

If you like wearing a color that doesn't do you any favors in general, you can often get by by putting a scarf of something of a color that does flatter your coloration at the neck to keep the unflattering color separated from your face.

I like to wear black, greys, and medium golden browns but they make me look washed out. So I have about a dozen pashmina scarves in various jewel tones that I wear draped around my neck. That deep saturated color is the ne that you see next to my skin.

I like cool colors, and I look good in them. Especially teal and torquoise. I also look good in reds and some shades of pink. I pull off white, black, grey, and brown just fine.

Basically I'm good in anything not yellow, orange, or overly bright shades. Too much gold or copper probably wouldn't work either, but they're okay as an accent color.

I just have no clue what all that means under the whole seasonal thing.

[down]Thanks.

Uh, yes. Hello: Spring. <waves> I look good in yellow-green, peach and apricot. Colours you shy away from. [lol] Most browns are also my friends... particularly if they've got an ochre-ness to them. smile

Poppy-red likes me, as well. As does navy. And, most bright greens and greeny-teals. I also like greys: particularly dove and other warm greys. ^_^ Charcoal likes me, too. I can get away with quite a few yellows, but lemon makes me look... insipid. <_< I look horrible in cyan, though. And, God help me if anybody stuffs me into magenta. tongue

My headphones are poppy red. Is this an excuse to get a new pair?

[up]That sounds like a Winter most probably. You get to wear the bright jewel tones and reds that slip closer to the cool darks than orange.

Non-winter here, as Autumn as it gets, red-brown hair, yellow undertones to a pale skin with freckles, and dark brown eyes. Cooling off slightly now that my hair is going grey, it's a silver rather than cream. Purples, greens, earth tones, gold and copper, but not the lemony yellows or pure whites, always need a touch of color in my whites. I wish I could wear bright oranges, yellows and reds; but never missed bright pink. Peach works, apricot works. Warm blacks work, but not the cooler ones (and yes, black has shades too, just like whites do). I did have this pair of bright yellow pants I wore in my twenties, for simple silliness and good cheer. If you like a color wear it and let the world hang.

I don't wear make-up more than a few times a year, but knowing your color does help for clothes; and the seasonal division makes it easy to remember.

Looks pretty good!

I really like dark lipsticks. Too bad I don't get the chance to wear them much.

My graduation is tomorrow. I'm agonizing (more than it probably deserves) over whether I should go subtle and natural, bold, or somewhere in between on the makeup.

I'm currently leaning towards a middle-of-the-road eyeshadow with black gel liner and black mascara (the graduation gown is black), and then offsetting that by using a neutral lipstick, but I also have a deep red lipstick I love and don't get to use very often...

Any thoughts/advice?

If you're going to be taking pictures and be viewed from a distance, something that stands out a little bit more makes your features clearer. You can always dim it down some after the ceremony. Theatre has taught me though that when you're working at a distance you want something a little showier.
