Got to try a glass of eagle rare tonight. That's damn good bourbon.

You lucky duck. I've been meaning to get my hands on some Buffalo Trace hooch for ages now.

I actually found a really kickass pizza place that happens to have a five-page-long liquor menu. That's five pages of the bottle list in very small print, not just cocktails. They've got basically every whiskey I've ever heard of and quite a few that I haven't, at pretty reasonable prices. Eagle Rare is about $7 a pour.

Now, the dive bar down the street from my dorm *somehow* gets away with $7 glasses of Macallan 12, but that's a whole different ball game.

Good for that pizza place. I suspect the dive bar probably isn't selling Macallan 12 though. A cheapo blend mixed with some of the real stuff more likely.

Also, lots of Pizza places and restaurants in general because Portland, OR.

I tried the golden ale Guinness released today - really, really nice.

More excitingly, I'm cooking a romantic dinner for... myself tomorrow night. A chowder-like "Sister's Stew" from the Game Of Thrones recipe book.

I have decided you simply can't have a chowder without a couple of nice, dark beers. So, I have some St Peter's Cream Stout and some Marston's Oyster Stout to go with it.

Has anyone else tried any of Dr. Mgillicuddy's liqueurs? They're about the price of other flavored schnapps or flavored mixing liquors. I've had the Apple Pie and Vanilla and found that they're smooth and tasty enough on their own that I could shoot them as well as mix with them and not wonder what happened to my life.

There's a bar I frequent that I know has some McGillicuddy's, since they've been featuring drinks with Fireball, and one of them is hot cinnamon apple pie with McGillicuddy's Apple Pie.

I think I was considering asking for Apple Pie and Irish Cream or something. Hot cinnamon isn't my thing, but there was something else I wanted to try with the Apple flavor.

Well I tried it. It sounds much better than it really is. The cinnamon overpowers the taste of pretty much anything else.

Guess I want to drink an apple cinnamon beverage I'll stick to a shot of fireball in a pint of Angry Orchard.

I have been graced with not one but two unique beer experiences as of late.

First was Oculto, beer that's infused with blue agave (Yes, I know it's made by Anheuser-Busch, I don't care). The beer is light allowing just enough of the agave to come through to give it just a hint of tequila taste. It really struck a good balance for me.

Next up was Not Your Father's Root Beer. I gave this one a try expecting to be disappointed. Usually in the case of flavored beer, the dark beer taste overpowers just about everything. That's not a horrible thing per se, but it makes the flavoring feel like a little bit of a novelty. One sip of this and I was suddenly drinking root beer, and good root beer at that. It finishes with just the slightest hints of ale. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys root beer and alcohol.

Mm, I'll have to give that a shot.

Friendly local shithole somehow got this watermelon shandy on tap that's actually pretty delicious. Don't remember the name though.

Hell or High Watermelon? If that's it, it's pretty good, but 21st Amendment is usually pretty solid.

Just went back, and it's Thomas Hooker Watermelon Ale.

Also, I've finally found an IPA I don't hate. It's called Harpoon Take 5.

In responsible drinking news in regards to no one dying or wrapping a motor vehicle around anything:

A moment of silence for our brave beers and liquors that where injured or did not survive my friend's party.

Midori and Mcgillicuddy's Apple Pie both came back as mostly empty bottles of a liqueur. Disaronno, Fireball Whisky, and Goldschlager (not pictured), came back half-full versions of their once full selves.

Cherry Bomb and Bird Dog both gave their share of shots.

Long time party vet Blackmaker root beer liquor was drank in the line of duty. As well as two cans of Raspberry beer, a bottle of Oculto, and a tragic three bottle of "Not Your Father's Root Beer".

Appleton 12 Year (not pictured), Below Deck Coffee Rum, and Malibu also deserve recognition for their bravery.

Special recognition is due to Everclear (not picture) who gave out many heavy shots and fires to the party goers. Though the entire team contributed to the success, Everclear eliminated one combatant almost outright and gave most the others a shot they would not soon forget.

Hail the victorious drank!

Ordered some whisky samples from Master of Malt. Balcones Brimstone, North British 29, Ardbeg Corryvreckan, and a Sauternes-matured Octomore. It's a brilliant service; buying whole bottles - even if I could find them - would break the bank.

If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to review them here.

I would love to hear your thoughts. As I think I said, my parents bought me Octomore one Christmas and I was a huge fan.

Wow, how is four ounces so dang much hot sake?

I was starting to appreciate it by the end of the mini-jug, but I don't think sake is my favorite. Probably for the best I ended up trying it in a restaurant than buying a larger amount to take home.

I considered buying off the cold sake menu, but it was much more expensive. They gave them ratings from -15 "very sweet" to +7 "very dry". The "creme de sake" was the only one with a negative rating, and was also the cheapest.

I like my chilled sakes like I like my sherry: dry and crisp. However, there are times when complex and oily just has to happen: winter and stews of varying kinds.

Warm sakes are nice to have... but, not in mid-summer. xP

Yeah, it was really strange to come in from the heat and have hot booze, hot soup, and a cold entree. I kept the ice water coming.
