Is there any other nation that has a drinking age greater than 18?

What's the USA drinking age, anyway? 18?

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

21.

18 is voting, smoking and driving age.

^ ...Wasn't the driving age sixteen? They passed a law in my area raising it, but only to seventeen, while sixteen is merely a restricted license.

^Depends on the state.

^^Don't forget joining the Military and registering for the draft (for guys).

And giving blood. And more.

You're legally an adult at 18, but you can't drink for another three years.

...

Really? Why separate them? We just throw all that shit on our kids lap at 18. If your parent haven't thought you how do they work and whow are you supposed to handle them, well...

Iirc, the drinking age is higher to lower the number of drunk driving accidents, as apparently driving is far more common in the US than other countries, and raising the age by three years was statically significant in the decrease of accidents enough for them to keep it that way.

Course, I could be making shit up. I think that's it, though.

That makes sense. I disagree, but it's because I'm way too much of an idealist. Should change that.

DAGNABBIT! This is supposed to be a nice intro to the sub-forum page and you are mucking it all up with your drinking age chitchat.

Loads shotgun. Grabs rocking chair. Opens bottle of hooch.

Hmm, wondering if a thread about makeup and beautification tips would be appropriate here...

Yes, it would. We've had plenty of threads complaining about makeup; I'd welcome a look from the other side.

For some reason I'd like to get into this forum, but I wonder what sorts of threads would be appropriate here, mainly because this place strikes me as an impenetrable wall of megathreads. I barely post outside Yack Fest anymore and want to change this a bit.

I don't know how to answer that question or address the comment.

A glance at the threads show me one megathread, the Totally Radical one, a couple of big threads Hows The Weather and a couple of the Room threads and a bunch of smaller threads.

What do you want to make a thread about?

I don't know, honestly. I figured I could brew some ideas after seeing this place being referred to as a "happy medium" between Yack Fest and On-Topic.

The best way to get an idea of the feel of the porch is to poke around. Crusty Old Bitches is the only megathread we have, so just pick a random page number and read a few pages, then skip to another random page, and so on. It has about as much continuity as Troper Updates — very occasionally one of us will refer back to something from a while back, but you don't need to have read every page to get the idea.
