I'll try and keep some sane threads going in YF :)

^^because the Trash Heap is there to keep the trash in one place. There's no reason to make a subforum for it.

I don't want YF to be the "silly subforum". I like to be able to reference memes or talk about anime or whatever else might be deemed immature, but on the whole I'm not wild about the idea of an increase in the amount of nonsense in YF.

Would you be opposed to the idea of a dedicated silly subforum, Bobby?

@Bobby: I'm not a big fan of the concept, but you gotta admit that by now the transformation is pretty much halfway.

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

^^ If Fast Eddie was in favour of the idea and there was sufficient demand, I would not oppose the creation of such a board. However, the idea doesn't particularly interest me.

^ I often feel that the stupidity of the boards here is exaggerated; there is a lot of silliness but there is also a lot that's worthwhile. In any case, I don't like to think that we're giving up on YF; that seems defeatist.

we aren't though, at least, I'm not. I dunno what the mods are discussing but I intend to come to YF when I want a bit more laid back forum , and go to OFH when I want to talk about my life with people closer to my age. nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, it seems like YF is becoming either silly threads or megathreads, with not a lot of in between.

I can't help feeling that 'Old Folks Home' isn't the best name for this place. Because it's not really supposed to be about 'old people', is it?

Be not afraid...

Bobby: I don;t think were making Yackfest into the "Silly" subforum. What was said was that silliness would not be discouraged within reason.

I was under the impression that this was "YF, only not so silly".

Well, either that or "YF only not full of children", but I really don't think it's necessary to be insulting.

It seems inevitable to me that such a board will draw the more sane threads out of YF, much in the same way that when FG and OTC were created they drew out the word games and the debate threads respectively.

Besides, earlier in this thread it was repeatedly claimed that YF was the silly equivalent to this board.

I thought this was "The media forums but without a central theme" as in, we don't make threads about each different show, but we simply talk about a show and then we move into another.

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

Okay so, a day later, and I'm still not getting it.

We just seem to be defining this as "Yack Fest, but adult." Which is really vague. I mean, analogies are nice and all, but I still don't know what differentiates a crotchety old bitch from a regular poster.

We had the same falling out with Myrmidon. Honestly, by now, if the problem is that you don't like this subforum existing at all, then don't come. If you like it, then post here. If I was a new guy, I don't think I'd be intimidated by a place like this where we invite silly discussion about general matters.

It's a test of bravery, this subforum is. Some people don't like the idea of discussing why Gurren Lagann is the greatest thing ever in a place where moderators normally hang out to keep a civil discussion/partyhouse at.

Also, this subforum is now a Moderator Partyhouse.

Discuss.

Okay, honestly? I'm afraid that the second I post anything on here I'm going to accidentally say something childish and get yelled at for it. Do I intend to do that? No. But when you set a portion of the userbase apart as some "other" that is somehow implied—intentionally or otherwise—better than the rest of the userbase, those kinds of feelings are inevitable among certain types of people. One of whom I happen to be.

I think that really is all my issues with this summed up.

Just relax, think of it as OTC but with topic drift encouraged. If you're really worried, act your (European) shoesize, not your age.
