I have been playing quite a bit of Master Of Orion lately, after accidentally discovering that each alien race has unique dialog for a Diplomatic victory. So far, the funniest one yet is for the Mrrshan, which is: "The galaxy is safe for the moment, but what happens when the Mrrshan grow bored of their new plaything?"

Hopefully, I can get my copy of Prey patched next week, so that my grenades and q-beam actually have graphics and function correctly. Then I can try a powers run and see how those damn aliens like me flinging around lightning and fire at them.

I've been playing a bit of Where The Water Tastes Like Wine lately. That's quite the relaxing game, actually. No big challenge, no competitive game, no intense action... Just you wandering almost aimlessly, sometimes hitchhiking, hearing stories and forging friendships along the way...

The only bit that's a tad frustrating is that, when a companion for the night asks you for a story, it's sometimes hard to get what stories you know would fit his criteria (you think he'd find a story "thrilling", but nope, for him, it's "scary"). Asides from this, yeah, pretty nice.

So it looks like I'll be leaving the guild I've been helping to run in the Neverwinter MMO ...

The co-founder took most of a year off when his wife died, which is how I turned into leadership. When he was online, he barely participated in anything in our guild, and had no input when the alliance we were in tore apart.

Last night, he basically came on guild chat and blamed me and my wifenote  for the alliance split, and demanded that we hand control back over to him. My wife pulled all of her characters out and moved them into a sister guild still with us, and was talking about ditching him completely, and frankly if she does so will I.

Super frustrating because we've been with this guild almost as long as we've been playing the game, and our efforts have been responsible for the guild going up from level 8 to 12 (out of 20). I get that he founded it and bad things happen, but holy fuck dude maybe if you had actually talked to other people in the alliance you'd have known what was going on.

So ... he decided yesterday to go ahead and demote my wife and I from co-leaders of the guild.

We moved to the other guild in our alliance that has been a secondary project. We're planning to trim out the inactive accounts, recruit some new players, and look for another alliance to join. Without saying a goddamn thing to him.

This weekend, he decided to kick the sister guild out of his mini-alliance. Two other guilds went with us.

He then booted out several other players from his guild, including my bro-in-law and at least one other experienced player my wife tends to group with often.

So we're hunting for a new alliance to join. Yay?

Someone is throwing a temper tantrum.

Well speaking of Guilds and Clans. I have been playing a fair bit of Conan Exiles with my longtime gaming clan. They were originally organized for Age of Conan prior to its release and continued on long after. Said clan has managed to land ourselves in some seriously hot water. We joined an RP/Story themed PVP server. We joined right at the end of a large server war against an Admin appointed Designated Badguy who was set to be crowned king.

The guy has been a bit of a dick about his appointment to head bad guy but decided he wanted to test the waters with my Clan. He stops by our base thinking he would get his way. He then proceeds to "offer the hand of friendship" that is, bend the knee and kiss his ass or be wiped out. Well, the clan has a strong rebellious streak. We also remembered that he stabbed one of our number in the back for doing nothing more than running by him on the river the other day. So our in-game leader who is overburdened with hide carpets, steps off a ledge and crushes him like a cockroach. I should note this guy was so arrogant he arrived at our base naked and making demands. Which is both arrogant and insulting. So since we are a tribe of Yog worshippers he was killed and eaten. And that is how the war started.

So he made more threats, brought his gang of cutthroats to our base harassed some of us, some of us were killed but so were some of them thanks to our more skilled Pv P players despite having inferior gear. So we are getting our base erased from the map today as he brings his army to destroy the base. Only he will find it empty. We never had a crown to capture and we are perfectly willing to go bandit. Going bandit actually gives us the Guerilla warfare advantage.

This should be interesting.

They may rule the day with their brute force but we will rule the night with bombs, ambush, poison, and fire. I am training my character up as an infiltrator to specialize in breaking into fortresses to "give gifts".

Well, I can add Megaton Rainfall to my list of underrated games. You get to play as a Person of Mass Destruction who is tasked with saving humanity from invading aliens. This is a bit too simple without spoiling the game. My favorite part was the attempts at working with both scope and scale. From altitude, a crater you just punched in the ground isn't that big until you descend into it. You can fly around space and explore other galaxies. How they handle scope and scale is amazing.

Someone did a good job in encapsulating both the feel and dreamlike quality of both flying dreams and power dreams rolled into one package. This is one of those games where it is one thing to watch a vid about it, a whole other to play it. It is intended as a VR game but works pretty well if you have a good sized tv with HD as well.

A few days ago, I purchased an og xbox from a used games store. Now I have all three of the sixth generation consoles. The games I. Currently have for the console are both Halos, Ninja Gaiden, Republic Commando, and KOTOR (as for the GBA well I had 1 as a kid but then I lost my charger, my DS Lite broke and I replaced it with a DSI which I then sold to my dad to get money for a 3DS. But then I managed to get another GBA charger and then my GBA broke beyond the point of repair

So, started playing GRIS recently.

It's conceptually similar to Limbo: a minimalist physics Puzzle Platformer in a Beautiful Void setting. Only not as grisly and unforgiving: I'm in the third stage and so far haven't even died a single time. I don't think you actually can die in this game at all. It's a very smooth platformer, both gameplay-wise and in terms of the stage design. The game is mostly the case when the gameplay serves to tell a story first and foremost, and not the other way around. The story is told mostly through visual means, there's no dialogue at all, written or spoken, the very design of the stages follows a certain theme and the abilities that the PC gains on the stages also fit the same theme and help developing her character. The game also looks very pretty with the game art resembling watercolor paintings. And where Limbo was a horror game, GRIS' mood is melancholic, with the soundtrack invoking gentle sadness that permeates the whole game.

So far, I'm liking it very much.

Spiral out, keep going.

I recommend Prey if you don't have it. Great single player mode, good for shooting aliens (or beating them with a wrench), and probably not super expensive right now.

I can't recommend Doom (2016) strongly enough. It's not free-to-play, but the fact that it's a well-executed Genre Throwback to old mindless FPS games makes it worth its price.

There's very little plot, you start shooting demons fifteen seconds after the game starts and the intense, streamlined demon-shooting process never stops till the end of the game.

Oh hell yeah. Seconding that. They did a great job reviving it in a big way.

Speaking of Doom, it can be had for free pretty easily and the modding scene is pretty hot. Especially if you get Brutal Doom.

i've just dunked about 40 hours into Star Wars: The Old Republic. for a game that's over ten years old and ftp, the graphics are very nice and it's extremely well fleshed out. yes, the fighting system is cluttered and unwieldy, and sometimes my pc clips through corners and gets stuck, but i figured it out after a few levels and they have a "my character is stuck" button so i can't really complain. also, playing a smuggler and having "corso disapproves!" pop up whenever i flirt with someone is hilarious.

Lerad: It is a decent game. Some social interaction with friendly players helps it along even more.
