How would magnetic flying magic sled penguins do as a random quirk?

There are guns that shoot lava in Full Auto.

The in-canon designer of them said that the only reason he made them was because they were fucking awesome.

Sentient Techie Penguins. They have an entire state for themselves and are treated with respect in most countries. They are expert record-keepers and obsessive on detail - they are considered vital in most governments. Ironically, their own government rarely gets anything done because bureaucracy is up to eleven.

Uh...well, in my superhero universe, Hermann Goering was a necromancer. And in my Asian-mythology-inspired fantasy universe, power is derived from shadow.

In one of my worlds, basically just a flat-out Alternate Universe with a number of changes, Scientology evolved differently and some of the harsher parts of it are different and a bit more reasonable...and it doesn't cost anything. As such, it's a much more prominent world religion and thought of as a bit odd but not nearly as crazy as we mostly view it IRL.

My world is pretty much Planet Eris, but technologically speaking, it's always some form of Punk Punk. Specifically, every time period looks like what that time- in our world- thought the future would be like. In other words, the Victorian period was very Steampunk, the 80s and early 90s were Cyberpunk, and for the present, well, everything looks like an iPod.

Le'see here... My world consists of a City in a Bottle the size of a small country surrounded by a near-endless wasteland where half of the main cast fights with street-signs-turned-swords and other implements while the other half fights with "nerf-guns" that shoot energy bullets. EVERYONE rides the subway to work, a good portion of the economic system is built on growing sunflowers and roses for the upper class, buildings are built and demolished by Humongous Mecha, and the president listens to a pair of oversized headphones in his spare time.

One thing about the Forgotten Lore setting is that along with a lot of supernatural stuff being real, most urban legends are aswell. The mcdonalds-equivalent really does make hamburger patties out of rat meat, fluoride was originally added into drinking water as a part of some nefarious goverment conspiracy (it failed, but turns out fluoridated water is good for your teeth so they decidaded to keep doing it), etc.

The capital world of my multiverse consists of a very large, technologically advanced city, and endless fields and lakes for the rest of it. Basically, it's a partial ecumenopolis meets Eden.

I'm trying to think of a Magitek-like story where power is a type of magic that is distilled from "raw magic" latent in the world. Power plants would radiate power magic across cities (like a cell-phone tower) and various "receivers" attached to things like lights, fridges, plumbing, etc. would convert power to light, cold, water, etc.

Sort-of-amphibians with four fingers. Bipedal. However, to breathe air, they have to consciously think about it. However however, since I'm a total hard-science fan, I'm still working out how the hell that would be possible. And if not, scrapped.

For one of the stories I am writing, the entire city is a Fish out of Temporal Water - due to the dickery of the gods, it is still a Sumerian city-state (in modern Iraq) run by an immortal and super-powerful god-king implied to be the original Gilgamesh.

Both men and women wear makeup in the 2040's of our world, although men's styles are plainer and more limited. A popular style is to embellish the lower eyelid with eyeshadow and/or eyeliner, but without tracing the caruncule.

Actually the reason why is a fluke in drawing Jack Clive a long time ago. I drew his lower eyelids too heavy, but I actually liked the look of it so I decided to keep him with eye-makeup on the lower lids.

That and it just makes sense to me for fashion to go in that direction.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.

As my stories tend to be set in this world but 20 Minutes into the Future, the quirkiest things in my worlds tend to wander around on two legs and think they're average people.

Some of them also think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

The one I'm working on the hardest right now (or "the one I'm not working on much at all because I'm too "busy" mucking about on TV Tropes) has a community of people including two different sorts of polygamous families, Christians, pagans, Atheists and IDGAF-ists.

Differences aside, they like each other and work together well enough to get through.

Oh, and it's set leading up to, during and after TEOTWAWKI.

I'm going to keep mentioning random quirks of that one particular Alternate Universe I thought up...

Modern fast food as we know it didn't become the ubiquitous American icon that it is in real life. Instead, automats remained popular and were refined over the years, and are still everywhere. A chain called Taylor's is nearly as common as Mc Donalds is IRL.

I'll keep dropping posts on random quirks of this same world over time, spaced out so it doesn't seem like I'm hogging the thread or anything...

The names of the races are the same I guess?

I should really publish some of it, it's pretty neat (if unfinished) for roleplaying.

  • Vampires really existed but came from their homeplanet into Earth through an ancient Precursor portal. The reason the sun kills them is because the radiation from their planet's star emmits much less radiation into the planet than ours. All their buildings, tech and vehicles are based on Gothic Architecture.

  • A race of aliens who think the other races as stupid because they wear clothing

  • Space sentinent Blobfishes, nuff said.

Puppetry is politically incorrect (because the aliens we meet actually look like puppets) and Disney has abandoned The Muppet Show and related properties as an Old Shame.

In this same world I've been talking about, the International Style never really happened architecturally in America. Art Deco and Streamline Moderne reigned supreme for decades and that's what the vast majority of large public buildings are. Due to a lack of the sort of glass and steel skyscrapers that we've become used to IRL, the cities of this world would feel somewhat unusual to most of us...
