General Sonic The Hedgehog thread

We may be on the verge on a major character purge. Meaning that at least Big, Omochao, and Chaos will be thrown out.

Or even worse, everyone except the core 5, Blaze, Orbot, and Cubot will be thrown out.

I would. First of all, source?

Second, who is this core 5? Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Shadow? This would then mean that Cream, the Chaotix and Nega are out.

I got the PS 2 collection of Genesis-era Sonic games for Christmas and I've been playing that a lot. My family only had SNES at the time, so while I still have some nostalgia for them, my experience with the first 3 Sonic games was previously limited to playing them at a friend's house or hogging the Sega that was set up at the toy store. I have Sonic Colors now, but haven't played it much because Scribblenauts has still been taking up much of my DS time. There's not much of a point to this post, other than I guess I'm a "casual fan" in that I enjoy some of the games but don't care much about the story or characters.

On an unrelated note, I've been listening to a bunch of Shadow the Hedgehog music lately, in part due to this guy's ongoing playthrough of it. That being said, a quick poll: what path would you take to listen to the best music overall?

(My current choice: Westopolis —> Digital Circuit —> Prison Island —> The Doom —> The ARK —> GUN Fortress. Evil Is Cool, I guess.)

Pretty much the entire cast was in the DS version of Sonic Colors. Plus, you had an extended cast in Sonic Free Riders. Parallels of characters in the Storybook Series. The only recent game I can think of that didn't feature non-core characters was Sonic The Hedgehog 4 and the Wii version of Sonic Colors. So not only is your guess not supported, it's the exact opposite of what's happening in many games.

Not going to be happy if Rouge gets taken out. It's not that having a lot of characters is a bad thing in its own, but moreso how you use them.

They should reintroduce Fang, Bean, and Bark as outlaw counterparts to Chaotix.

Also, I rather like the babylon rogues in personality and design, just not the way they've been done. They should have their air pirate status played up more, and could actually make interesting rivals for Chatotix in as well.

I pray for the return of the Chaotix.

And the reintroduction of Fang wouldn't be a bad idea, though at this point it would probably feel redundant with Rouge around.

I'd rather have Fang as a Snively Expy.

Kinda offtopic, but I'm a tad surprised that the Sonic Colors thread wasn't renamed to a general Sonic The Hedgehog thread, especially since it was being used as one already. Perhaps a thread merge is in order here?

I don't see Sega removing everyone but the "Core 5." I mean, on another Sonic forum I post on, they hade a thread about who you consider main characters. Most people said Sonic and Eggman and, really, hey are the only characters actually vital to the series.

A couple of derails does not a reassignment make.

P.S.: Anyone still hopeless about the franchise even after Sonic Colors?

There are still a few, but that's a given. I'm surprised it managed to piece most of the fanbase back together!

I'm having great expectations for the anniversary game. I believe it's either going to be amazing and great, or a terrible failure. For Sonic's sake, I hope it's the first. They're going so well with the last few games...
