I have a lot of the books and I played on a forum, but most of my playing has been siphoned out with work picking up and the like.

I read on our Magic Dance page that D&D has "the Spoony Bard class, who uses performances to access his arcane magic. One of them is dance...Sadly, the performance for spells has to have a sound component."

If I rolled a bard, would those noises that Michael Jackson made whenever he danced ("Ji-mo-neh!") count as a sound component?

hahaha... yeah I remember that bit about bards can do dances for their bardsong. It's a shame their aren't more exotic dancing bards in the DND universe.

yeah, demon lords are abit uncommon... I think it's because they are so high level, and usually tied to a specific type of campaign.

I have to say, my preferred Bardmode is EPIC POETRY.

And I mean that in the technical sense. Not extremely awesome poetry.

But it's that too.

[up]I prefer oratory for the Rousing Speeches.

Any other psionics fans out there? I know the soulknife and wilder had balance issues, but I was quite fond of the psion and psychic warrior.

Groovy.

I love the flavour of soulknives... Never played any of 'em, but I like the style on psychic warrior, too.

My old group had a lot of awesome anachronistic stuff (clothes, language, Schizo Tech, et cetera) so when I rolled up a bard I brought a CD player and classic rock albums. Every character had a themesong I'd play when they did something epic.

"We Are The Champions" by Queen - Inspire Courage

Everybody Was Kung-Fu Fighting -Damien the Monk

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by ACDC - Alphonse the rogue

"Let There Be Rock" by ACDC- Leonardo the Cleric

"Hotter Than Hell" by Kiss- Kat the (fire-specialist) Sorcerer

"Rainmaker" by Iron Maiden- Fenric the Bard

Also, I freaking love Psions. I shall molest you with my brain@ Aiaiaiaiaiai!

[up][up]So about those minotaurs mentioned by Zealot Vedas...

Traditionally in D&D, minotaurs worship a demon lord called Baphomet. Maybe these civilized minotaurs swore off demon-worship to create a structured society and now zealously hunt down evil outsiders—perhaps in a Lawful Good way ("Never shall you harm another innocent!"), perhaps in a Knight Templar Lawful Evil way ("Suffer not a witch to live!")?

How about a Lawful Neutral society so you can get both the Knight in Shining Armor AND the Witch Burner? Possibly competing for the fate of a suspected heretic, if you need plot hooks?

Hello, peoples: I need a bit of assistance. In my setting, there are no gods; hoever, id on't want to nix divine magic. How could you make divine magic work with no gods?

Arcane magic comes from the mind; divine magic comes from the soul. Maps pretty well to INT vs. WIS.

[up] and what about CHA based spellcasting? magic comes from teh pretteh?

The way I always saw it, magic was drawn from willpower alone, and channeled through different means. wizards squeeze the power out through fundamental mastery, Sorcerers through natural ability, bards through craftyness, clerics and paladin's through zeal. it all came from a universal source inside them, they just channel it in different ways.

so you could say that divine casters simply draw that power from an unknown source. even if their are no gods, there's the unifying will of civilization, or the noble spirit? maybe their really is no explainable reason, and you can make that a plot point in the future?

Here's a question...

I've been considering mucking around with the alignment system in my game, to something like this:

Lawful-Chaotic: Lawful characters respect the 'rules'. Whether these rules are the rules of society, divine mandates set by their Deity, or their own personal code of conduct, these characters play along with rules without breaking them.

Neutral: These characters follow along with the 'rules'- as long as it's convenient. Other times they may follow the spirit of the law, they may bend the laws a little, or they may occasionally just break the rules altogether.

Chaotic: These people just don't give a damn about the rules. They ignore them, break them, flout them, whatever, whenever they feel like it, to achieve their ends.

Good versus Evil: This one will be ruled via a combination of actions and intent.

Intent figures into it in that, to be classified as 'good' or 'evil', your intents must be clearly 'good' or 'evil'.

However, even that's not a deal-breaker. You can't just intend to be good while being a Knight Templar- because actions factor into it.

Every time you commit an act- whether that's leaving extra money for the barkeep, or killing a puppy- that factors into your alignment to.

So, for example: Greg is a Paladin who is honestly trying to do the right thing. However, the one time he tried to redeem an Orc, it fooled him and escaped, comitting wanton slaughter before it was killed. He has repeatedly killed other adventurers who were making morally-questionable choices.

But he is still TRYING to be Good.

As such, Greg is classified as Lawful Neutral. Not outright evil, no matter how much damage he's caused; but he's not outright Evil.

Does this sound like it could work?
