Fully admitting that one watches porn never gets easier, even with time.

This fanfic, to an extent, but it's actually very cleverly crafted; I feel more guilty for liking it because of the main pairing.

Yaoi used to be a guilty pleasure of mine, but I concede I'll enjoy a nice beefcake, if it's given to me.

Ecchi harem comedies, however...I disappoint myself.

Bratzillaz.

The other Bratz dolls are fucking hideous, but the Brazilliaz actually look quite charming and pretty. Maybe it's the glass inset eyes, maybe it's the fact they smile so their gigantic lips don't look as off putting, but all around they're just more pleasant to look at than the regular Bratz Dolls.

I use the word 'guilty pleasure' quite loosely. At least I literally don't feel guilty, I'm not sure if I've understood that right.

Still, sometimes, when my friends are all busy and I've got no work and lots of times to waste, no sleep coming, I like to listen to mantras on Youtube.

Here's one. Hope you like.

Considering I have a very, very difficult time assuming my tastes around anybody I know in real life, I'll just say "everything even remotely geekish/nerdy" and leave it at that.

If by "guilty pleasures," we're talking things we like, even while acknowledging their unhealthiness and/or campiness/silliness/stupidity (or even just things that contradict our usual tastes), I have a few:

Movies/TV:

Music:

  • "Poker Face"
  • "Let It Go" (yes, THAT one)

Other:

  • Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter (mostly because my usual method of consumption is eating it with a large spoon out of a jar).

[up] That's not the kind of guilty pleasure we're talking about. Or is that a joke?

Anyway, I like Moulin Rouge (2001) as a guilty pleasure. Sure, it's melodramatic, sure the love story is kinda shallow, but I like it because of its cheesiness.

Part joke, and part my genuine outlook on life. I see no reason to ever feel guilty about liking things. Caving in to peer pressure in that regard? Silly.

'Peer pressure' is hardly the whole of it. Surely there's a few shows you've watched which contains a few things that you personally feel are really bad and you dislike, but which have enough positive qualities that you keep watching anyway?

An example for me would be Kill La Kill. I found stuff like the Big Bad's fondness for incestuous rape tacky, tedious, a jarring tonal shift that the show wasn't built to handle, and generally unpleasant, but the humour and visual inventiveness kept me watching even as the questionable writing decisions made me wince and roll my eyes more by each episode.

What's precedent ever done for us?

I would not put Kill La Kill as one of my guilty pleasures, much as it made me cringe or (more often) think "They're just trying too hard at being edgy and provocative". Partly because it was in many ways well done and usually likeable, but also because I was taking it somewhat seriously and when it missed the mark, I took it as a somewhat serious problem.

My guilty pleasures, in Japanese animation, are more like Noucome (My Mental Choices Are Getting In The Way Of My Highschool Comedy, the title alone says it), which veered wildly from clever and hilarious to "How does the author think this is in any way funny?". For the most part it is a parody of harem shows, but far too much is repeating a single gag that I never found funny. Yet other parts had some kind of charm even when they fell flat for trying. Also little fanservice, and pointing up some of the creepy sides of harem shows. Until the last two episodes, when it became a harem show.

Until then, I could call it a guilty pleasure in that I liked it even though much of it was not in any way good.

Perhaps an even stronger example is Onee-chan ga Kita, which I liked, and really wished I didn't.

A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.
