Doctor: ... and he left behind the Hand of Omega.
Ace: His hand? What good was that?
Doctor: No, no, not his hand literally, no, no, it's called that because Time Lords have an infinite capacity for pretension.
Ace: Yeah, I've noticed that...

- Class only had one example, "Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart".
- The Third Doctor Radio Dramas, The Paradise of Death and The Ghosts of N-Space.
- BBCi's web animation Scream of the Shalka.
- Steven Moffat's Affectionate Parody, Doctor Who: The Curse of Fatal Death, spoofed this practice.
- The companion book A History of the Universe used "The Noun of Adjective" as the title in its sample entry (the revised edition Ahistory used "The Repetition of the Cliché").
- In-universe objects have followed this naming convention, too. "The Five Doctors" featured a great many things called "The ________ of Rassilon", who, as it turns out, just about everything important on Gallifrey is named after, with two big exceptions:
- The TARDIS' primary power source is the Eye of Harmony, a supernova frozen in time at the instant it collapses into a black hole.
- "Remembrance of the Daleks" has the Hand of Omega, a Time Lord Weapon of Mass Destruction that the Doctor tricks Davros into using to blow up Skaro's sun.
- From Big Finish:
- In "...ish", the Doctor lists "The Adjective of Noun" as one of the sentient words he has encountered in his travels.
- In "Zagreus", the Eighth Doctor reaches the end of his rope with all of the things named after Rassilon:"So what have you got squirelled away [here]? The Hairdryer of Rassilon? The Hoover of Rassilon? The Rassilon Patent Trouser Press? 'These creases last forever!'"
- The titular "Axis of Insanity" is a collection of doomed, collapsing timelines chock full of Eldritch Abominations, whose Keeper can't stand the Time Lords whose meddling in the universe makes the Axis necessary.
