The divisive nature of Total Drama's later seasons has led various chunks of the fanbase to regard certain ones as non-canonical.
- A portion of fans like to believe that the show only lasted one season, and ended after "The Very Last Episode, Really!" (which really isn't helped by the episode's title or the fact that it's the only season finale with a genuine sense of finality). There are also some fans who share similar opinions, as they only see Island (2007), Revenge of the Island and Island (2023) as canon.
- There are also several fans who prefer the original 24 contestants and ignore any casts after this.
- Many fans don't like to acknowledge Action even if some of the events (Gwen and Trent's breakup and Geoff's brief Captain Hollywood phase) are referenced in later seasons. It seems to be the case with the writers too, as a lot of developments in Action are outright ignored to the point of causing continuity errors (such as Heather and Leshawna burying the hatchet or Owen's reputation getting soured from being The Mole). Similarly, events from World Tour such as Duncan dumping Courtney for Gwen also tend to be ignored by these fans.
- World Tour, itself, is also similarly ignored by a section of the fanbase who derided the season for its further derailing of fan-favorite characters, the infamous Courtney/Duncan/Gwen love-triangle, and controversial additions to the cast, such as Sierra, Alejandro, and Blaineley.
- Many fans refuse to consider Blaineley from World Tour a legitimate member of the cast, since she's a Token Adult who only participated through a loophole and got eliminated rather quickly. Its not that she's refused to be acknowledged at all, but that she is rarely if ever spoken of as a 'real' contestant. This is pretty easy for fans to get behind too, since the show itself seems to ignore Blaineley when speaking of previous competitors.
- A minority of fans refuse to consider Alejandro and Sierra part of the first generation cast and instead put them in their own grouping separate from the original 22 competitors who debuted in Island (2007) or place them in the same broader group as the contestants introduced in Revenge of the Island and Pahkitew Island.
- All-Stars got hit by this bigtime due to its wider recognition in the fandom as being the worst season yet, even more so than Action. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone willing to discuss the implications of the reset button or Courtney and Scott's brief relationship. Some even go as far as to say that it was all nothing more than a dream Chris had while in prison after being arrested in the finale of Revenge of the Island.
- The section of the fandom that didn't like Pahkitew Island either pretends that that season doesn't exist or at the very least ended after "Scarlett Fever" (which even the haters of said season admit to being one of its only worthwhile episodes).
- For others, the Scarlett Fever episode doesn't exist, due to people think Scarlett becoming a Large Ham villain ruined her as a character and/or a villain. These fans preferred her to smartly play the game like Heather did in the first season.
- Heck, some people remove her being a villain due to liking her shy smart girl character more, despite the fact the fact there was foreshadowing for it. People also do this because they found Scarlett being a villain (especially a Large Ham one) strange (either because they thought it came out of nowhere and/or it made her somewhat no-better than Max). Even people who saw Scarlett's rise of a villain coming pretend the signs don't exist due to it being perceived as a strange and/or it ruined her as a potentially well-written character; either as Anti-Villain or a smart but shy/anti-social girl who could've used her smarts for good.
- Due to people genuinely shipping them, Scarlett's hatred towards Max is either toned down or flat-out removed.
- It is not a good idea to mention the words "Sundae Muddy Sundae", which many fans tend to ignore due to how it handled Courtney's arc. Even people who are willing to defend All-Stars hate this episode.
- As far as Courtney's fans know, Sundae Muddy Sundae doesn't exist and Courtney got farther or won.
- Similarly nowadays, shippers like to pretend Scott and Courtney never broke up in that episode
- Similarly, many fans like to pretend that "The Final Wreck-ening" never happened, that Camp Wawanakwa didn't sink and that Mike didn't get rid of his disorder with a button. Again, good luck finding anyone, even All-Stars fans, who will defend this episode.
- Speaking of episodes, many of the post-Island writers have fallen victim to this from fans, but Terry McGurrin and Ed MacDonald were hit the hardest by this in All-Stars and Pahkitew Island. They have written what are deemed five of the worst episodes of all time ("You Regatta Be Kidding Me", "Sundae Muddy Sundae", "The Bold and the Booty-ful", "Hurl and Go Seek", "Lies, Cries, and One Big Prize"). This has caused many fans to discard any episodes they did.
- Most Sierra fans don't acknowledge All-Stars as it removed her Character Development, flanderized her flaws to be even worse than they were in World Tour, and wasted the potential for her to win and have a real friendship/relationship with Zoey/Cameron. Heck, many fanworks that depict her positively typically tone her flaws down.
- As far as anyone that ships Heather with anyone else knows, Heather never returned Alejandro's feelings or they fell out after the show ended.
- The whole Dave/Sky drama for shippers that ship them despite this. In rewrites, either Dave handles the rejection for a relationship much better and/or Sky is much more clear about her boyfriend problems/why she doesn't want a relationship but it's much more clear she does care about him. Even if Sky isn't upfront about Keith and she gets her audition tape leaked, he's more likely to forgive her (or at least not go crazy).
- If not that, Dave being mauled by a robot-bear at the end of the season is typically removed.
- For some Leshawna fans, she never takes a level in jerkass in ''Action'' and she and Heather still have their friendship in World Tour.
- Funnily enough the only Total Drama property that seems to have averted this is Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race which, though technically a Spin-Off, has been embraced by the vast majority of the fanbase as a return to form for the series.
