A subtrope of TwiceToldTale and a subgenre of FanWebcomics: these comics play out the plot of their chosen games, from start to finish. Some comics hold closer to the original storyline than others. Liberties may be taken - via AlternateCharacterInterpretation, inclusion of original characters, and embellishment (if not outright {{Retcon}}ning) of plot points - the essential plot and major elements remain the same.

Such comics often take the form of an AffectionateParody. Please note that webcomics simply using characters and features from a video game universe in a fan-made story do not count.

!!Examples (In Alphabetical Order)

* ''Webcomic/BobAndGeorge'' follows the story of the 8-bit ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' games... mostly.
** Also of note, the comic was supposed to be about something completely different, had the Mega Man filler had not been so popular and the writer's drawing skills not be so poor.
** Many of its subcomics also use this trope, including as ''Webcomic/MSPaintMasterpieces'', which also follows the plot of the [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic 8-bit Mega Man games]]. So far only the first games are completed.
* ''Webcomic/TheChosenFour'' for ''VideoGame/EarthBound1994''.
* ''Webcomic/{{Concerned}}'' - followed the plot of ''VideoGame/HalfLife2'' as Gordon Freeman unknowingly follows in [[TooDumbToLive Gordon Frohman's]] wake. Frohman is the main character.
* ''Webcomic/EightBitTheater'' (possibly the TropeCodifier) ''loosely'' told the story of the original VideoGame/FinalFantasyI.
** Which was supposed to be a bunch of one-off comics of several 8-bit games, a la ''Webcomic/VGCats'' or ''Webcomic/AwkwardZombie'', but ended up as an ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyI'' parody in the end.
* ''[[http://ff6comic.comicgenesis.com FF6 Comic]]'' for ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI''.
* ''Webcomic/FinalFantasyVIITheSevening'' for ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII''
* ''Webcomic/FiveKidsAtFreddys'' for ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2''
* ''[[http://dam.smackjeeves.com/ Dream About Me]]'' for the Gray/Popuri thread of ''VideoGame/HarvestMoon64''
* ''Webcomic/TheLastDaysOfFoxhound'' starts out telling the immediate backstory of ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' from the villains' perspective, but sprawls out into the rest of the series, and [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] almost all the significant plot and gameplay elements of the games along the way. The events of ''Metal Gear Solid'' are shown in a [[TheyPlottedAPerfectlyGoodWaste deliberately anticlimactic]] [[http://www.gigaville.com/comic.php?id=499 single strip]].
* ''Webcomic/TheLegendOfMaxx'' for ''VideoGame/{{Terraria}}''
* ''[[http://www.drunkduck.com/Persona_3_FTW/ Persona 3 FTW]]'' for ''VideoGame/Persona3''.
* ''Webcomic/PlanetZebeth'' does not actually cover the events of ''VideoGame/{{Metroid}}'', but it does have an arc early on which goes through the plot of ''Metroid II: Return of Samus''.
* ''Webcomic/{{Prequel}}'' for ''Franchise/TheElderScrolls'' series, starring a {{woobie}} Khajiit named Kaita Managan, and [[AscendedExtra Quill-Weave]].
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}''
** The ''Webcomic/VGCats'' spinoff ''Webcomic/SuperEffective'' for ''VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue'' -- insofar as the original Pokemon games had a story and insofar as it [[ScheduleSlip managed to inch into it]].
** ''Webcomic/PokemonX'' does the same for ''VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire'', with ScheduleSlip applying there as well.
** ''Webcomic/NuzlockeComics'' takes a lot of liberties, but the result is awesome.
** ''Webcomic/BlackAdventures'', for ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'', may not have [[ImageBoards started out]] [[{{Gamebooks}} this way]], but it seems to be doing so now.
*** Webcomic/XYAdventures, the sequel loosely based on ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'', with a few twists compared to its predecessor.
* ''Webcomic/SecretOfManaTheater'' for ''VideoGame/SecretOfMana''
* ''[[https://simplevalues.thecomicseries.com/ Simple Values]]'' - a VideoGame/StardewValley based comic with three major changes in the narrative: The characters are all [[FunnyAnimal anthromorphic dogs]], there are two main characters (male and female cousins) instead of one and both were major [=JojaCorp=] employees, rather than an office drone.
* [[http://taleotc.com/ Tale of the Cave]] for ''VideoGame/CaveStory''.

!!Other examples
* There are at least three different Webcomics following the plot of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker'', at least two of which age-up Link and Tetra to aproximately the age of their ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess Twilight Princess]]'' counterparts, in order to circumvent the LighterAndSofter problem. [[http://www.smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=49542 Here's one of them.]]
* "Of the movies" rather than "of the games", but ''Webcomic/DMOfTheRings'' for ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'' and ''Webcomic/DarthsAndDroids'' for ''Franchise/StarWars'' (they started with the prequels and have now reached the original trilogy).
** Those have also become their own trope, the CampaignComic.
** Also, for the latter, it's implied they also played Tabletop versions of the Dark Forces Saga, AKA the Force Unleashed games.
* Platform/ShiftyLook was an official version of this trope; most comics featured were based off old obscure Namco games, and almost all of them had a humorous tilt.
