"Smith" Will Suffice was a Bad Trope Namer, though. Kept making me think of Will Smith. At least this one makes sense.

Is it still this trope is a less-than-devout character replies with something along the lines of "The deity you are attempting to contact is unavailable. Please try again later" or somesuch? And if so, has that ever actually happened in fiction?

What if the character says "Oh god!" and another character, who's actually a god, responds? Or something similar?

Then it's this trope but justified, I reckon. There is nothing in this trope's description about the necessity of the character not being a deity, thus I think it would still apply.

Charles De Gaulle apparently had a very distant relationship from his wife, or that example is incorrect in some fashion..
