To get technical: Jokes may have many different forms, e.g., a single word or a gesture (considered in a particular context), a question-answer, or a whole short story. The word "joke" has a number of synonyms, including wisecrack, gag, prank, quip, jape and jest. To achieve their end, jokes may employ irony, sarcasm, word play and other devices. Jokes may have a punch line, or a Twist Ending ending to make it humorous.
Notes:
- We have indexes about comedy jokes, but this is an index where you can find jokes — even on pages for a trope that isn't usually related to humor. Please keep it to pages that actually have some jokes (or we'd just be listing every humor page), not just comedy routines — not all humor involves traditional jokes.
- You may run into the same joke on several different pages. This is okay if the joke fits each of those different tropes - that's because this is a trope site, not a joke book.
- Of course if a joke on the page reminds you of another joke that uses that trope by all means add your joke! If the joke you remember doesn't fit the trope, then put it on the page where it does match the trope.
- Naturally you will see a few tropes that you may not feel are funny to joke about - read Black Comedy and Comedic Sociopathy for more on why these jokes exist.
- Sometimes the jokes are not in a "jokes" folder. Some are under "humor" some under "Real Life" some in the "quotes" page. Sorry, sometimes you'll have to hunt, but not usually.
