All-American Girl (Shinzakura) by Shinzakura
  • Status: Complete
  • Recommended by Hidden Nimbus, Gentlemens Dame 883, autobot, HeyLookImAUser, ipaddressconflict, Commando Dude
  • Synopsis: Rarity’s two-week old daughter is accidently sent to the Human world and is raised by humans as an American citizen, named DJ. Then fifteen years later, Equestria finally manages to find DJ again and attempts to return her to her “real” family. The story follows DJ many years later.
  • Comments: Best described as MLP as written for adults, and I don't mean that in the porno way. There's a lot of weighty stuff in this series and it's definitely one of those "you'll either love it or hate it" fics.
    • Also, thanks to its sidestory anthology Be Human and the prequel Polarity: A Tale of Two Sisters one of the most massive FiM fanfics out there as well as a hugely developed universe.

An Academic Visit by Rust Pony

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A pony mathematician is invited to visit a former province of Griffon Empire, now occupied by otherworldly beings.

Anthropology by Jason the Human

  • Recomended by Poptard, Commando Dude, REV 6 Pilot, Troliolio, ombranox, Shinzakura, Korodzik, Dogman15, Computer Sherpa, GespenstKAF, Redandready45.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "Humans. Truth or myth? Ancient lost civilization or just an old pony's tale? No pony has ever seen one, and most haven't even heard of them. But Lyra knows that these wonderful creatures are more than just old legends, and she's going to find out... and possibly drive her roommate insane in the process."
  • Comments: Short, but very fascinating. It's a story about Lyra interested humans but doesn't actually feature them in Equestria no thanks to Discord.
    • Seconded. It's very interesting to see a development of how much Lyra is affected by her interest in humans, and that there seems to be a complex backstory to "us", and how Equestria deals with it, doesn't hurt either. If you like Lyra, you'll be wasting time if you don't read this story.
    • ...The fic goes farther than that, but to avoid spoilers, let's just say that the above is but the tip of an iceberg.
    • There's now an audio play of the fic. Presently Completed, it is found on NightFalls Studios.

Arddun Lleuad and Arddun Lleuad 2: Chwe Goleadau - Six Lights by Pride

  • Recommended by Korodzik, Metroidmewtwo, Shinzakura, Fallen Gods Rise.
  • Status: Complete
  • Arddun Lleuad Synopsis: A "human in Equestria fic". Where the protagonist and Luna fall in love.In other words, it's a story of one Chester, dropped into an odd fairy-tale world, who eventually finds somepony who needs him and loves him. Then things get sour...
    • Chwe Goleadau Synopsis: The sequel to Arddun Lleuad, it's an epic adventure/horror/romance story. Luna and Chester face a horrendous manipulative villain, who is threatening Equestria and eventually everything else with something far worse than mere conquest.
  • Comments: The premise may seem unappealing, but this is a really excellent work of literature, with great writing (worth checking out for this alone), and averting the typical obnoxious, psychologically improbable protagonist. It succeeds at making you feel a strong emotion or two. On the other hand, it is primarily about a human and a horse in love, and while nothing explicit ever happens, the descriptions of their contacts are sensual enough to make one uncomfortable under the collar.
    • Chwe Goleadau, like its predecessor, is quite a stellar piece of literature (and it's just the draft version; had the author had time to polish it before he decided to leave the fandom, it might have been one of the best-looking fanfics ever written.) However, be warned - it is very grimdark, and halfway through turns into essentially an endless stream of Tear Jerker and Nightmare Fuel. Also, there are still sensual descriptions of the (still non-explicit) romantic contacts, which might make you uneasy.

Arrow 18 Mission Logs:

  • Recommended by: autobot, Computer Sherpa, Clato Lawa, Aris Katsaris, Technophile

    • A Lone Ranger: Complete
    • Sparkle's Notes: Dead
  • Synopsis: The star system Omega Centauri was just another oddity on a map to scentists in the not too distant future. However when they found the star was orbiting an earth-sized, earth-like planet instead of a black hole as its motion had suggested, a mission was scrambled to investigate this most unusual of celestial behaviors. Hamstrung by politics, and nearly crippled before it began, the 'Lone Ranger' mission was reduced to just one crew member and left to his own devices. These are the logs of Arrow 18 and its lone commander. This information is classified TOP SECRET by the Global Space Agency. Do NOT tell the princess.
  • Sparkle's Notes synopsis: It occurred one peaceful night. Half of Equestria awoke to the sound like a double-shot thunderclap. A percussion heard in the skies and rattling windows from Apploosa, to Canterlot, to Ponyville. Nopony knew what it was or what it heralded for the world as it drew a line across the nation. For Twilight Sparkle, this isolated incident might have faded from memory after a time, if not for the ...strange rumors of a creature sitting on the hill on the outskirts of town. These are her thoughts given written form. These are Sparkle's Notes. Report EVERYTHING to the Princess.
  • Comments: A very unique take on an HiE. At first, Twilight/Smarty Pants/Twinkle Butt and the pilot communicate using MATH. Also, Ponies.... IN SPACE! The one from Twilight's perspective is just as awesome with the sheer glee being audible as she realizes the dots are numbers and math equations.

ARTICLE 2 By Muppetz

  • Recommended by Commando Dude, REV 6 Pilot
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: The Princesses find an alien creature barely clinging to life at the scene of a terrifying crash. Can the Combined Power of the Elements of Harmony save it, or more importantly, should they save it? Will the arrival of this strange creature tear Equestria apart?
    • Comments: Very well written and fleshed out, one of the few quality humans in Equestria stories. Does an excellent job at illustrating how two very different sapient species would have trouble interacting with each other upon suddenly meeting.
    • Seconded, and heavily. Unlike the usual "human arrives in Equestria and makes many friends" plot, this story deals not only with the tension of the meeting of the two species, it also depicts how much their very natures clash. It also shows how the pony government would deal with such a strange incident, something that is very rarely put in the spotlight. Even though it's only six chapters in and it could use a beta reader due to writing flaws, I can't stop re-reading it.

A Twilight Landing by MerlosTheMad

  • Recommended by Crow T R0bot
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis It's late, in fact it's so late it's early. The clock in the room reads well past one in the morning. There's also a storm hammering against this girl's home, trying to lull her to sleep. Stubbornly, she remains awake, drawing, surfing the internet, and basically procrastinating another night away. So, what is it that makes this night any different from another one that she has lived through? What strange occurrence occurs that makes it stand out? That changes her life forever? That changes the course of- Oh you get the idea. Have a look through "A Twilight Landing" and find out. Follow Twilight through her journey on Earth, and her quest to return home.
    • Comments: Probably one of the best Humanity Ensues stories for ponies out there. Twilight's Sugar Bowl mindset contrasts gloriously with Jo's grouchy demeanor (both balanced out by Alice's general perkiness) and it's nice to see her learn about humanity's ups and downs as she tries to figure out a way home...and enjoy herself in the interim as she practices being human.

The Ballad of Echo the Diamond Dog by Rust

  • Recommended by Vaughnd 22, Sithking Zero
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: I always wanted to go to Equestria. When I got the chance, I took the deal without reading the fine print. To my surprise, I didn't arrive there as a pony, or even as a human. It seems I get to view this world from a different perspective then what I've imagined.
    • Comments: A great story, along with its sequel. The author mixed humor, action, and drama very well together.

Becoming Ponies

  • Recommended by [Masterweaver
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Discord's latest evil plot has come to Earth; many people wake up with the body of a pony and struggle to retain themselves against the overwhelming personality of their counterparts. Lauren Faust, in the form of Princess Celestia, asks the Mane Cast counterparts to head up to New York to resolve the situation, but it's not going to be that easy....
    • Comments: A promising and mostly well written collaboration with quite a bit of philosophy.

The Best Of All Possible Worlds by McPoodle

  • Recommended by Poptard, LentilSandEater
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis:
The royal court of Canterlot welcomes its newest member with open forelegs: the human philosopher Voltaire, from Earth.
On Earth, Voltaire is known as the greatest enemy of tyranny in the history of literature, and a legend in his own mind.
On Equestria, the court betting pool is giving him a week before the Princess banishes him to the Moon.
  • Comments: Very funny, very well-researched, and very plausible. The author takes the real world Voltaire and thrusts him into Equestria (a few centuries ago), where he can influence Celestia into making the show what is is today. Very strong and consistent characterization for everyone and an interesting plot are just a few of the high points of this ongoing story.

Chains by BookyBrony

  • Recommended by Misterian
  • Status: Dead; last updated November 2016
  • Synopsis: Humans have been enslaved by Ponies for centuries. Owning them is either for labor or social status. Seeking to get their daughter a friend, Mr. and Mrs. Sparkle purchase a human slave to be a companion for their young studious daughter.
    • Comments: a highly intriguing and surprisingly expansive Alternate Universe story involving the human race placed under bondage by the Ponies of Equestria, and while surprisingly follows much of MLP's canon despite the dark twist, is still a well-realized dramatic and considerably dark story that subtly made Equestria into something of a Crapsaccharine World, if only from the point of view of the said enslaved humans.

Consequences of Unoriginality by Andoriol

  • Recommended by Clato Lawa, p0nypanda, Abstract Indigo
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Emeris Fillson is transported to Equestria, he finds himself turned not just into a pony but into an Alicorn. Thanks to a curse that Emeris calls the Gary-Stu-ness Effect, or GSE, he is better than anypony at any of their special talents (especially when in direct competition), is loved obsessively by everypony he comes across aside from Celestia and, worst of all, is a Doom Magnet that continually brings devastation to Equestria in the form of monsters that only he can stop, and not without collateral damage.
After two years of this nightmare, Emeris and Celestia manage to break the curse and turn him into a Unicorn/Earth pony hybrid - and then the story begins, as Emeris attempts to make up for all the trouble he has unintentionally brought to Ponyville.
  • Also has a Scrapbook Story spinoff by the same author, Letters From a Fascinated but Frustrated Scientist.

The Conversion Bureau: Not Alone by Starman Ghost

  • Recommended by Gentlemens Dame 883 , Dialga X
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A different take on The Conversion Bureau. When the Equestria landform first appeared, humanity welcomed the ponies. When their imperialism is exposed, though, humanity gears up to take the fight to them. Both sides have their saints and sinners, with no blanket "ponies bad" or "humans good". Uses multiple forms of presentation such as newscasts and postings in addition to standard prose.

Chrysalis Visits The Hague by Dan The Man

  • Recommended by Jeez
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Set in a universe where Equestria's arrival on planet Earth has been very recent and unexpected, Chrysalis the Queen of Changelings finds herself captured by the Equestrian Princesses. She is charged for her crimes against the equines of Equestria by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the Netherlands. The task of defending the feared Changeling regent falls to a vain and perpetually sceptic human attorney. But with the mounting evidence, the contempt of both worlds, the ire of his client, and the weight of his own conscience stacked against him, it doesn't promise to be an easy task.

Diaries of a Madman by whatmustido

  • Recommended by Abstract Indigo
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: When Discord breaks free of his stone prison, he proves to be much older and wiser than he was on the show. A being of ancient and unimaginable power, he forces Celestia to make a deal to save her little ponies. What she doesn't realize is that one of the terms of the deal is that she forgets ever making it. Enter Navarone, a poor human just trying to get by—or at least, to the ponies that's what he looks like. Pulled from his home by an accidental summoning from one Twilight Sparkle, Navarone is thrust into a world of ponies and more violence than he expected from such a peaceful seeming world.
  • Warnings: there is a LOT of explicit content in this, although they are skip-able and not the primary focus, they do exist. Also rape.

''Drawn With the Night" by Dan_s Comments

  • Recommended by Redandready45
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A human finds himself in Equestria under very unpleasant circumstances with no explanation. His reaction: get the heck out of Dodge and start a new life where Equestria and her ponies can't reach him. But an alicorn's reach is long and the events which brought him here and his treatment in Canterlot are not so easily forgotten by those who did it. How does one say 'go away' to an immortal goddess?
  • Comments: The main character avoids the pratfalls of many human characters, namely allowing himself to be mistreated. It is powerful examination of social relations in Equestria, and a good read for anybody who enjoys something that challenges one's viewpoint.

Equestria's First Human by Ceehoff

  • Recommended by Vessel, autobot
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A human has been teleported to Equestria after a lightning bolt struck him. The ponies of Ponyville had never seen anything like him before. Full of fear and uncertainty, all of Ponyville, except for the Mane 6 and Spike, avoided him. The human, with the help of the Mane 6, must earn Ponyville's friendship before a way back home is found.
  • Comments: An HiE fic that's well-written, hilarious, and has its bits of drama to fit in perfectly, making it a well-balanced story. If you're looking for something other than the generic, this is the fic for you. Completely redone as of March 1, 2013.

  • Synopsis: Hanna, the CEO of Hofvarpnir Studios, just won the contract to write the official My Little Pony MMO. Hanna has built an A.I. Princess Celestia and given her one basic drive: to satisfy everybody's values through friendship and ponies. Princess Celestia will satisfy your values through friendship and ponies, and it will be completely consensual.
  • Comments: A chilling read on what could be achieved by a relatively benevolent A.I. who merely wants to satisfy you. Though friendship and ponies.

Five Score, Divided by Four by Twisted Spectrum

  • Synopsis: As a fan of the show, Anon always loved Rainbow Dash and her cutie mark, but he never wanted it to appear on his leg. Now that it has, all sorts of things are getting weird for him. Cartoon ponies aren't real... right?
  • Comments: A transformation fic that is very well written and has great story and character development.

Fire And Sky by Lurkernon

  • Recommended by Fun Dweller Mc O 9

  • Synopsis: Given one final chance by a pilot in need of an assistant Spitfire finds herself struggling with her pride and instinct to rebel against being a slave. Putting aside her anger proves to be a struggle, while her captor is no saint either he merely wants to keep flying, but then again, so does she.
  • Comments: Considered to be of the best /mlp/'s /spg/ has ever made.

The Great Slave King by TalonMach5

  • Recommended by Abstract Indigo
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A Human in Equestria fic, where after having escaped as a 'guest' of the Diamond Dogs and vowing revenge, Andrew King stumbles across the Well of Eternity and ascends to godhood. Styling himself as 'The Slave King', from here the story follows his rule as Lord of the Earth as he attempts to gain his revenge and outmaneuver his fellow deities.
  • Comments: A truly excellent example of world building and character development. While the premise of a HiE fic where the main character becomes a god immediately screams cliche, it's very well executed.

Hail to the King by Qwapdo

  • Recommended by p0nypanda, Redandready45
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: King Sombra’s dark influence was obliterated by the Crystal Heart, and the villain is well and truly dead. But when he attempts to steal the afterlife of an innocent victim, a human spirit is left hurtling towards Equestria, where this unfortunate soul is revived into the only vessel available: the reconstituted body of King Sombra himself. Thus, a cheerfully oblivious alien is crammed into the form of the most evil and malicious being Equestria has ever known. Not that Shining Armor and Cadence know this, of course. As far as they are concerned, the King is back and he’s lost his fricking mind.
  • Comments: This is really funny. Though some may think Shining Armor and Cadence might be too paranoid.

Hands by Andrew Joshua Talon

  • Comments: An over-the-top surrealist comedy, with slight serious elements. Expect a steady decline into insanity.

Just Before the Dawn by Drefsab

  • Recommended by Abstract Indigo
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: One month has passed since Princess Celestia was forced to banish her own sister. Suddenly alone and with the weight of rule squarely on her shoulders, the sovereign of Equestria has become but a shell of her former self, maintaining a facade of confidence that hides growing doubts and lingering regrets. When a devastating attack is launched on her nation by a vindictive, opportunistic foreign ruler who will stop at nothing to see a generations-old grudge resolved, the weakened Celestia seeks to stem the flow of soldiers that now pour over Equestria's borders and put an end to the bloodshed. In her darkest hour, she turns to the aid of an unexpected confidant: A steadfast soldier, a loving brother to his siblings, someone she has watched grow and mature since he was but a child. The only living human in Equestria.

Sunset has now been forced to serve penance by answering any question truthfully and by doing anything asked of her, whether she wants to or not. And she really doesn't want to. Until all of the hatred in her heart is gone, Sunset is at the whim of her peers, unbeknownst to them of course. Can her new "friends" help her down the road to redemption? If not, there's always that other Twilight Sparkle she keeps running into.

Misunderstandings by TheRogueWolf

  • Recommended by redandready45, Technophile
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Peter Collins. Full-time copy clerk; part-time competitive shooter and sketch artist. Not the most glorious life, but for an independent 26-year-old looking to make his way up the corporate ladder, it's not a bad start. But the thing about one-in-a-million chances is that somebody has to be that one. And Pete has just found himself the winner of a bizarre cosmic lottery, giving him a free one-way trip into a land of magic and wonder: Equestria. Unfortunately, the locals are skittish, distrustful of anything not their own, and outright terrified of whatever might be threatening to them. And with no way to speak to or understand them, what might have been a trip through paradise becomes a journey through a living hell, where the simplest of misunderstandings can bring the most dire of consequences. Alone, confused and desperate, Peter wages a one-man battle to escape a land seemingly out to get him, searching for a way back home, while the forces that protect this magical nation- ignorant of his goals and terrified that he may be a threat- do all they can to capture him. How far can fear push us apart, what can it push us to do, when communication is impossible?
  • Comments: Written by the same guy responsible for Written In Dust, this fic showcases the various problems a human in Equestria would face: a language barrier, not to mention the fact that his appearance could easily shake up the harmonious peaceful society that has always been Equestria. The story is never boring, with new obstacles that Peter must overcome, but never does it become tiresome, it leaves you wanting more.

Nine Knackered Souls by Dr Ivo Robotnik

  • Recommended by Poptard, Kalikimaka
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: MLP:FiM and RvB crossover. Post RvB Revelation and Season 1 of FiM. After a freak accident involving teleportersnote  sends them to Equestria, the Red and Blue teamsnote  must join forces with the the keepers of the Elements of Harmony to find a way back home and defeat an old nemesis. Rated T for swearing and violence that comes with Red vs. Blue.
  • Note: While it may be prone to grammar errors and lack of breaks (at first), it's a pretty decent story that can be appreciated by both Red vs. Blue fans and Friendship is Magic fans. Or at least the former and fans of both. Is AU as it does not consider Red vs. Blue's Season 9 since Epsilon-Church and Tex also somehow make it to Ponyville.

No, I Am NOT a Brony, GET ME OUTTA EQUESTRIA!!! by BronyWriter

  • Recommended by Clato Lawa, p0nypanda
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: TD Harrison Powell, a 20-year-old Elementary Education major, is transported into Equestria as an accidental side effect of one of Celestia's experiments. Having disliked the show in his own world, he does not take being stuck inside it well...
  • Comments: This story is unusual among HIE-fics for featuring a human who is aware of the show, doesn't like it, and is not quickly turned around by the experience of being in Equestria. Indeed, by the end of Chapter 7, TD has justifiable grudges against all of the Mane Six aside from Fluttershy. So far, this is a well-written and promising story, doing a pretty good job of portraying Grey-and-Gray Morality.
  • The story has since spawned two sequels, several alternate endings, and even an alternate ending to that last one, all by the original author.

Pandemic by ''ASGeek2012

  • Recommended by Redandready45
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Lazy Pines is a small town in the high country of Colorado, easily overshadowed by the bigger sights to see along Colorado State 9. When influenza strikes the town hard, it is little more than a statistical blip in a typical flu season. No one thinks any more of it as the initial wave of infection passes ... until the other symptoms begin to manifest.
  • Comments: The author writes a very compelling and complex mystery across two different worlds. Though the length of the story may discourage some, the suspense makes the story flow more quickly. A must read.
  • The sequel and side stories are more hit-ans-miss; the dreamwardens are OP bordering on Mary Sue, and somewhat contrived, to force them into the story. The characters are still interesting, however.

  • Synopsis: A Human in Equestria fic where the the protagonist and Rarity have fallen in love, set to the backdrop of a jealous old friend of Rarity threatening her business, and an increasingly complicated relationship between Rarity, the protagonist, and Fluttershy.
  • Comments: Readers should be warned that there are quite a few explicit scenes, and the second person narrative might also be off-putting to some, but it avoids a lot of the usual cliches by showcasing a well-developed romance. If you can look past these and the premise of a human and a pony in love, it's an example of some excellent relationship building, as well as good characterization.

Cutting a deal with Death and ending up in a world I never thought I would see seemed like a blessing but soon, things got complicated. Was it a new chance, a dream coming true or was my soul still trapped somewhere between worlds?
  • Comments: The initial impression may seem that this would be an ordinary HIE story, but as the story evolves, it becomes a fantastic read, with great writing (minus the initial chapters) and deep rooted symbolism.

  • Synopsis: A self-insert human-in-equestria fanfic written for the express purpose of showing that these so-called toxic tags that normally doom a fanfic to failure can be used to good effect. The author wakes up to find himself in Equestria, meets the Mane 6, the princesses, and a bevy of OC's, and faces off against The Nightmare (the force that corrupted Luna into Nightmare Moon); wisecracking and taking aside glances all along the way.

  • Vanished from the internet. Please post a link if found.
  • Synopsis: "We all know about stories where Humans enter Equestria. But what about a world where Equestria is in the Human world? It is the year 1820, and a series of events brings a young unicorn and a human prince together. Together, they will embark on a quest to change Europe, and the world, forever."
  • Comments: A fun mix of Alternate History and ponies. It's very entertaining to see how the author has ponies mesh with real-life history narrative, and it's very well researched on both sides (in-jokes, both historical and FiM-related, abound). It also does a good job of comparing the ideals/priorities of the show with the Western 19th-century perspective.

  • Synopsis: Jessica finds herself flung into a world she has little concept of. Everything is strange and new to her, but worst of all she cannot communicate with the native inhabitants. A world of monsters and sentient ponies, griffons and other assorted beasts is no place for a human girl. How will Jessica cope? Without an understanding of their language how will she make her way in the world, will she even be able to ever communicate with them? Why was she even brought into the world and is there even a way for her to get home?
  • Comments: This story stands out for keeping entirely within the point-of-view of the human protagonist yet managing to portray all of the canon characters accurately in spite of the language barrier, which the author has not taken any kind of shortcut with.
    • A side story from the Equestrian's point-of-view is being written.

  • Synopsis: An OC Human in Equestria shipfic. Lero has been trapped in Equestria by mysterious forces, and is now merely trying to make a life and family for himself while among a new species and culture. WARNING: Explicit sexual content.
  • Comments: Rather than go off on crazy adventures and fight evil, this story focuses on cultural misunderstandings and is driven by character interaction and development. It explores human vs pony psychology and rituals, and Values Dissonance has a very strong presence. It should also be noted that while most HiE fics focus on the human, this story is told from the point of view of Rainbow Dash. While it is eventually hinted that Lero was sent to Equestria by The Fair Folk, it never factors into the story aside from the emotional ramifications.
  • It now has a Scrapbook Story sequel written by Twilight Sparkle, two collections of side stories set at various points in the timeline, a one-shot dealing with Lero's taboo against public nudity, and a spinoff saga focusing on when Twilight Sparkle accidentally swapped her friends' cutie marks.

Not The Hero by Alara J Rogers

  • Recommended by: AC 97
  • Status: WIP, last updated in June 2017
  • Synopsis: Discord's the only creature in Equestria who can recognize the human for what he is — not the long-lost Seventh Element that never actually existed and couldn't have existed before the human arrived, but a meta-reality warper, an entity far more powerful than Discord with the power to warp the minds of all around him and the very rules of magic to make sure that he's always the Big Hero. And the role the human's assigned to Discord is the Villain to beat down or kill. Pre-reform Discord's fine with being the villain. But on his own terms. Not dancing on some alien interloper's puppet strings. Without friendship, or even allies, Discord's going to have to find a way to defeat a creature who can alter fate itself and who can even mind-control him. Or he may just end up worse than dead.
  • Comments: An astoundingly well thought out fic told from the point of view of Discord. Trapped in stone when the human arrived, bringing earthshaking changes that no one even remembers, Discord decides to fight the human. The fic deals with some dark themes, including issues of free will. It also goes into detail about Discord's role, magic, thought processes, and relationships with the Princesses. Incredible amounts of detail. It's well written, and the author clearly has an excellent grasp on her portrayal of Discord.
    • Seconded, not only is this an excellent deconstruction of "Seventh Element" fanfictions, this is also a good read if you want to see some worldbuilding, in addition to the aforementioned excellent grasp on their portrayal of Discord. Fimfiction link here.

He attempts to adapt to this strange, impossible new world he has entered after wandering beyond the edge of the map.
  • Comments: Think of Man vs. Wild, except even harsher and in an alien world. Troy has to survive while at the same time not knowing what the resources he finds can do to him, the locals don't understand his language, and magic hurts him to the point of leaving him temporarily crippled (though, in one case, it was better than the alternative), while at the same time he has to deal with his sanity going down the drain.

A unicorn who finds herself part of first contact with a strange new creature.
A princess who finds hints of one she long since lost in another's mind.
With the arrival of a strange bipedal creature into Equestria, all three will find themselves intertwined with the fate of the girl. When language cannot be understood how will communication with the new arrival be achieved, and what secrets may the creature be bringing with her? What does the girl possess that may alter how the changeling in particular sees the world.
What could the girl possibly have that would allow one word – hope – to resonate so strongly, not only for herself but also the changeling.
  • Comments: This is a P.O.V. Sequel to A Voice Among the Strangers, although it is written to stand on its own.

Reinventing Trixie by The Rogue Wolf

  • Recommended by madcapguy
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A second person romance between the Great and Powerful Trixie and the human Donovan Trellis (you) set in an alternate universe where the human and pony worlds have been linked by a network of portals. Donovan is a down-on-his-luck stunt coordinator runs across Trixie, weeping over her broken wagon in Equestria. He fixes it for her and soon after that, Trixie offers him a job to helping reinvent her act to apeal to human and pony audiences alike. They begin living together out of convenience and a relationship forms. Donovan also strives to reinvent Trixie's image to the Equestrian public and the mane six inparticular, whom she is afraid hate her for the events of "Boast Busters".
  • Comments: I found the story to be an enjoyable read, with Donovan's snarky narration adding some comedy. The relationship between him and Trixie and the interactions between them and the mane six were quite heartwarming. Be warned that there is a descriptive sex scene in the second to last chapter 'consummation'. Lesbianism and adoption are also touched upon.

  • Synopsis: A Catholic priest-in-training is given the task of organizing a Christmas pageant in Equestria, and attempts to do so with the help of Lyra and her friends. Naturally, things refuse to go smoothly.
  • Comments: And no, before you ask, this is not one of these religious Author Tract fanfics about characters converting to Christianity. It does, however, take a look at how would human religion be perceived by the ponies.

Twilight Makes First Contact by Immanuel

  • Recommended by p0nypanda, Red-Dead-Redeemer
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Twilight takes on the most important task in her career as a princess of Equestria, when she opens up a magical portal to a distant world with extra-Equestrian intelligence. With her organizational skills and keen understanding of scientific principles, she leads diplomats and scientists in a well-planned expedition to a historic first contact. The first exchange doesn't quite go without a hitch, however, as the portal opens near a pony ranch at Texas, Earth. For the purposes of this fic, assume Equestria Girls didn't happen.
  • Comments: A very interesting tale that has quite a bit of scientific jargon in it. Also, the Ponies mistake ranch ponies as the dominate species.

Facing Changes by Sketchy Unicorn

  • Synopsis: I never thought that this day would come; the day that my dad would finally find someone to be with after being alone for so long. Not only that, but the one that he found, the one that he's decided to spend the rest of his life with, was none other than Princess Celestia. I do feel happy for Dad, really I do, but I still didn't like the idea of my father getting remarried. The thing is, though... I have no idea why I feel this way.
  • Comments: Warning, the ponies here are anthro.

The Man With Two Names by Donald Trump Card

  • Recommended by: Commando Dude
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Fluttershy finds a human in her backyard trying to eat one of her chickens, she and a majority of the residents of Ponyville only want this dangerous creature as far away from their town as possible.
  • Comments: This is not a story about a human coming to Equestria to heal, or make friends, or your typical HIE stuff. This is a story about Values Dissonance between a guy stuck in a fantasy land who thinks he's a monster, and the trials he faces because of it trying desperately to eek out a life in Ponyville. Also, the story is finished (epilogue pending).

  • Synopsis: My name is Seth Rogers. I'm your typical college student trying to get a major in computer science. Except that all goes out the metaphorical door when some crazy guy running around in armor zaps me into a land filled with ridiculous looking ponies colored every color of the freaking rainbow. Or all of them, in one case.
...I want them to stay as far away from me as physically possible. This is a Human in Equestria story with a twist: in that the main character is a complete and total jerk. Can the ponies we all know and love help the angry and bitter Seth become a better person?Another thing that I must point out is that the show does not exist in the human world.[=

Sunset Shimmer: Element Bearer by Conning Officer

  • Rcomended by Eegah
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: After the events of Rainbow Rocks, Sunset Shimmer communicates with Twilight to realize the full implications of her apparently representing the previously unknown Element of Redemption. Her lessons are complicated by her desire to redeem Sonata and Aria, while Adagio makes plans for revenge.
  • Comments: A fantastic redemption story that doesn't make things too easy for anyone as it's clear the two Dazzlings have a long, hard road ahead of them. Plus, a great backstory for them.

Reformation Buddies by Metool Bard

  • Recommended by Magictoaster
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After hearing about her from Twilight, Discord is eager to go to the human realm to meet Sunset Shimmer and befriend someone who went through the same experience that he did. However, there's one problem. Sunset Shimmer knows about Discord, but she still doesn't know that he is reformed. Meanwhile, after finding out about Discord arriving in the human world, Adagio plans on getting in his good graces and assist him in his (nonexistant) plan to take over the world so he'll help her get her powers back. Sonata, however, is horrified by what Discord could possibly do and tries to get the Rainbooms to get rid of him, and Aria wants nothing to do with any of this. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Comments: The concept of Discord trying to befriend Sunset because he thinks he can relate to her is already a great and creative concept in itself. Everyone is well-written and in character, and this fanfic would not be out of place in an actual episode for the show.

Who Is This Lord Tirek You Speak Of by Bucking Nonsense

  • Recommended by p0nypanda
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After a tragic accident, a human ends up in Lord Tirek's body, as part of an attempt to reform the villain after his recent escapades. While the hero of our tale is trying to make sense of his new surroundings, the rest of Equestria thinks that the most terrible threat that their world has ever seen is back... And the powers that be are definitely not happy about it.
  • Comments: While at first this might seem like a generic human ends up in villains body story, it diverges rapidly. It helps that it's made by the guy who makes The King is Dead, Long Live the Emperor.
