''Stories From The Front'' is a storytelling My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic blog by Severus about Stormfront the Pegasus mare, the Canterlot "South Wind" (weather co-ordinator) whose official job it is to travel from town to town and make sure that the weather plans of a town and its neighbor's are compatible and fair. This sounds rather mundane, but between Stormfront's unusual approaches to life and love and her tendency to meet some very strange chracters — it's actually quite fantastic.

This blog is commendable for a depth of characterization and world-building which is high for any fanart blog, let alone one whose focus is so strongly sexual.

One should also read the companion blog, ''Talk To Stormy'' which fleshes out the fictional world and provides many interesting details of her life.

Tropes displayed here include:

  • Amazonian Beauty: Stormfront is a very big Pegasus mare — the size of an Alicorn, which is shown in one scene where she stands next to Princess Luna — with a sturdy and muscular build inherited from her Earth Pony father. She is also quite beautiful, both going by the pictures of her, and by the way others react to her in-universe.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Stormfront's house, which ... we'll let her describe it:
Stormfront:Cloudhomes aren’t unusual for pegasus ponies, but this particular one is made of stormclouds, which are volatile and unstable by their very nature. The house itself shifts and rearranges as the maelstrom moves. Rooms scoot around, hallways twist, showers flow sideways and stairways end up upside down. You can't count on anything being in the same place from one visit to the next, and it's constantly raining or misting or storming, depending on what room you’re in.
  • Badass Adorable: Who knew that this little cutie became this badass. Seriously, Stormfront as a filly was very adorable.
  • The Big Guy: If one panel which shows them together is to be believed and contemporary ( Stormfront is in a kitsune-induced desire-dream at that moment) Stormy's father Touchstone must be a truly gigantic Earth Pony, around the size of Celestia. Stormfront is herself Luna-sized, and Touchstone dwarfs her.
  • Blithe Spirit: Stormy is well-aware that her behavior is very abnormal, but believes that "abnormal" shouldn't really be a problem. She follows her own code of conduct, which is essentially to do her job well, stand by her friends in their times of need, and be careful not to do more than annoy other ponies. Beyond that, she sees life as one long, beautiful and uninhibited party.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Epitomized by this exchange:
Stormfront: Is that a baby kitsune?
Mother Kitsune: Not as you understand the term. But she is new to this world. The first northern kitsune born in centuries to survive long enough to form a physical body. The first of my children to walk this world on her own paws since before your parents were born.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The state in which Cashmere finds himself after he is accidentally possessed by the Moon Sleipnir. He imagines himself to be Nightmare Moon — and imagines Stormfront to be Princess Celestia. This puts Stormy in the horrible situation of having to fight against her own crazy best friend.
  • Caught Masturbating: Due to Stormfront's voyeuristic habits and constant search for everything sexual in her environment, this happens quite a lot. The comic actually starts with Stormy waking up on a cloud and then masturbating by beating one of her own buttocks with a wingtip, and thus soon demonstrating the most regular cause of her Power Incontinence. Please note: the comic is meant to be her diary, which may imply that she found the fact that she did this worth writing about.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Stormy is caught in a double-bind with regard to her Brainwashed and Crazy and possessed best friend Cashmere. The fog Cashmere is generating is threatening to render all Equestria unflyable. Princess Luna sends her a letter telling her to enlist the aid of Twlight and the other Element Bearers to purge Cashmere of his possessor — which may well kill him, as he's neither an Alicorn nor a Chaos God. Princess Celestia sends her a letter telling her to confront Cashmere directly, pretending to be Celestia. Stormfront chooses the second option which is by far the most personally dangerous one to Stormfront herself. This shows that Stormy would much rather risk her own life than the life of a loved one.
  • Crush Blush: Less common than you'd expect considering the strongly erotic content, probably because we are seeing this from Stormfront's POV, and Stormy is actually fairly clueless regarding 'normal' romance. She tends to miss the subtler signals of attraction and dismiss it as irrelevant unless it leads to fairly rapid sex (in which case what she mostly remembers is the actual sex). Stormfront is actually aware of this personal limitation — she doesn't handle normal dating well.
  • Demonic Possession: When Luna turns Cashmere into a Moon Pony, she accidentally transfers into him the same Sleipnir Moon Spirit that originally turned her into Nightmare Moon.
  • Eldritch Horrors: The Frost Giants. They are Kaiju-sized creatures vaguely like gigantic living frost-blackened horses with glowing eyes and great skulls for heads, but that description does not do them justice. A few ponies have seen them and lived; none have ever actually defeated them in battle. They are attracted by and feed on Hope They are kept from Equestria by the Aegis of Celestia. Basically Ponified Ithaqua Spawn.
    • Tommyknockers. Imagine a ponified Exocomp but without sapient intelligence, and cobbled from materials of the least common demoninator. Their main weakness: a Unicorn who can disable Come-to-Life spells. I.E. Cashmere. Oh, and they look like spiders. From the blog:

A long time ago, unicorn pony miners would enchant their mining equipment with come-to-life spells to help them dig through the night while the ponies slept. Problem was, the spells were often sloppy. Miners are miners, after all. If they were expert spellcasters, they’d probably be in a different line of work. But they knew how to animate the equipment, and it worked well enough for them.

Eventually, mines ran dry and the ponies moved on. The responsible ones disenchanted their equipment, but many of them just left it behind. Some of it got lost in the tunnels, others just decayed, but a few lingered on. Bits and pieces of animated mining gear joined together so as to better supplement the needs of each other, working as a single unit just like their pony masters used to. They’d form miss-mashed, haphazard bodies and their slipshod enchantments would mingle, mixing signals and altering their original directives to form a single, unpredictable consciousness that lurked in the dark caves of old abandoned mines and tried to continue its best guess at its original task. Some are friendly, others ignore living things entirely, as though we’re not present at all.

    Some are violent.

    • Another example are the Coatls: winged serpents of Aztec-type mythology. Somewhat cute if you like that sort of thing. But, they are not the horrors. A pony bit by a Coatl will be infected with Vivid Venom, a rainbow-colored substance. Once bitten, in a few days, a pony victim will basically become an elemental embodiment of their special talent. Example: a candy maker will become a being that is comprised of molten sugar and will have rock candy claws. It will turn trees into candycanes with its breath and will create peanut brittle roads to trod upon. The transformation once in it's execution phase will last for three hours, enough to cause severe damage, and the weather service calls a vivid event a "localized disaster". The only thing you can do is let it storm out, keep everypony away from the vivid creature, and keep it from leaving.
  • Emotion Eaters: Kitsune (sapient foxlike spirit animals) feed off hope and have illusion/mind-control abilties.
  • Ethical Slut: Stormfront can best be described as a dirty-minded, friendly and obsessively-lecherous nymphomaniac who — unlike many supposed examples of this type — actually is fundamentally "ethical" — she goes out of her way to avoid actually hurting anypony. In consequence, most of her partners wind up actually liking her, and some become genuine friends.
  • Everypony Has Lots of Sex: Both Invoked and Subverted, in that Stormfront definitely has lots of sex, and her family and friends certainly do; but Stormy is herself aware that both she and her family are rather unusual Ponies, it is explicitly mentioned that some Ponies actually despise them for their behavior, and we know from the other blogs that some of the Ponies she has sex with are probably not all that sexually active — some are semi-reclusive and may only be having sex with Stormy, when she happens by on her rounds, and chooses to drop in to say "hi" to them. Which is to say, maybe a few times a year.
  • Extreme Omnisexual: Stormy will pretty much have sex with anypony, anyone or any thing she finds suitable, and she has very wide criteria of suitability. She has a distinct fondness for sex toys and for non-Pony sapients.
  • Give Her A Normal Life: The mother Kitsune's ambition for her baby Malachite. She is so determined to do this that she is willing to give her own life, for she knows her hope will attract the Frost Giants.
  • Good Bad Girl: Stormfront, despite her claims to be just a "weatherpony," is a natural heroine who tends to instinctively protect the weak and innocent and stand up to evil. She is willing to have sex with almost anything she finds attractive (and she has very broad standards of attraction) but tries hard not to actually hurt anyone. And she is demonstrably kind to children.
  • Happy Place: Stormy's kitsune-induced dream is this sort of montage — in addition to all the expected sex, there's some other positive moments, like dancing with her father Touchstone in an Earth Pony encampment at Hollow Shades and hanging out with Cashmere at the Canterlot Faire. Unfortunately, the reality outside this dream is not so happy, Stormfront is freezing to death in the Northern Wastes.
  • Humble Hero: Well, Humble Heroine: Stormy has saved Equestria from at least one godlike superbeing and survived confrontations with creatures that few Ponies have seen and lived to tell about, yet she insists that she is just a simple weatherpony, and certainly no hero. She's not even all that arrogant about her sexuality, though she does rightly point out that she's rather good at sex. If she boasts about anything, it's her skill at dancing (which has obvious connections to both of her other clear aptitudes).
  • I Die Free: The mother Kitsune, as she is about to be consumed by the Frost Giant (as imagined by Stormfront, but she was with Malachite and may have actually been telepathically hearing it as it was thought):
Kitsune: My progeny will know a better world than my own. I will not end in silence and sorrow. I will spread, and prosper, and escape the grip imposed on me. I have a reason to hope, and I will not hide that hope from you. I hope she thrives.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: Almost unavoidable for Stormfront, given that she generates lightning bolts when she achieves orgasms anywhere near clouds (see Power Incontinence).
  • Luminescent Blush: Severus is fond of this as an indicator of every degree of arousal from mild embarrassment or excitement (Twilight Sparkle reading a book on "Aggressive Friendship" which evidently includes something on flirting) to actual orgasm (too frequent to count), and everywhere in between. He carries this off rather well, as the reason for the blush and the degree of emotion or sensation involved is usually evident from context.
  • Monster Is a Mommy: The adult Kitsune's reason for detaining Stormfront in the Northern Waste: the Kitsune is female and has a kit, and Stormy's desires are the only hope the child has to survive.
  • Nature Lover: Much of the Scenery Porn consists of Stormfront flying over some breathtakingly-beautiful landscape or cloudscape with a look of utter and profound joy across her face.
  • One True Love: Stormfront is incredibly promiscuous, but she comes closest to having these sorts of feelings for Cashmere, who is not only one of her many lovers but also one of her very few close friends. Of course, this is milked for drama — Cashmere winds up being possessed by the same Moon-Spirit that inadvertently drove Princess Luna mad and Stormfront has to fight him.
  • Place of Power: Neighagara Falls. In Stormfront's own words:
Neighagra Falls has a near by native population of course. Several, in fact. But the waterfall itself is more of a sightseeing location than it is an spot for ponies to live. For earth ponies though, it's a location of special significance. Some earth ponies anyway, those who dip into potionmaking and alchemy and the often forgotten arts of earth pony magic.
    ...
Location means a lot for potionmaking. You’ve got to collect the right ingredients from the right places, or it just won't have the right magic in it. Being the largest waterfall in Equestria, Neighagra brings in earth ponies from all over to collect its water, which is rich in the sort of energy they use to brew with, and a necessary ingredient in some of the most potent of potions.
  • Power Incontinence: When Stormfront orgasms, if she is in contact with or even close to a cloud, she will generate lightning bolts from that cloud. This is involuntary on her part. Hilarity Ensues when some clouds get moved to right outside her bedroom window when she is in her early teens. Well, at least everypony else in her family is laughing. What's worse, for the obvious reasons this soon becomes known to pretty much all weatherponies and many pegasi throughout Equestria, which means that any ponies meeting this description — within miles — are usually well aware of when she is sexually fulfilled. Even Stormy finds this occasionally embarrassing, though she's learned to use it as a weapon of mass annoyance.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Some examples in-universe.
    • Stormy's wings are shown, in the very first scene, to be long enough to enable her to masturbate by spanking her bottom with her own wingtips.
    • Stormy can fly, and sees nothing wrong with satisfying her constant sexual curiosity by peering into other ponies' bedrooms. So she does. Whenever she gets the chance.
  • Precursors: Whoever built the Bifrost, a mass driver that allows rapid travel in a line between the middle of the West Coast and East Coast of Equestria. It appears to have originally been a spacecraft launch system.
  • Prehensile Tail: Cashmere has an unusual variant of this appendage. While many Ponies can flip and/or telekinese their tails to perform feats of dexterity with said tails (such as Applejack's roping), Cashmere has brought his tail hairs to life with a Come-To-Life spell. This renders his tail unusally strong and flexible — however, the tail is only somewhat under his control. It does roughly what he wants to do. Roughly.
  • The Quiet One: Surprisingly, Stormfront. She's conversationally somewhat shy, and in addition prefers not to say too much to deliberately ensure that when she really wants to say something, other ponies will listen to her because O.O.C. Is Serious Business. This means that we should be aware when reading the blog that most other Ponies probably don't understand as much about her and her personality as we do from reading it; only her really close friends probably get to know her well in an emotional sense.
  • Right Through the Wall: One of the major ways Stormfront and her sister Cirocco like to annoy one another is by banging the headboards of their beds against the wall when they are in the same building and having sex. Or, sometimes, even when not having sex. One of the many ways in which Stormy is poorly socialized to live among normal ponies is that she sometimes does this regardless of whether or not Cirocco is around.
  • Scenery Porn: In every conceivable sense of both words. Stormy loves the land of Equestria almost as much as she loves sex, and Severus lovingly documents both — often in the very same panels.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Stormfront and her sister Cirocco, who is much smaller and slightly less promiscuous than Stormy, but much better at behaving normally and thus fitting in with most other Ponies. Sometimes escalates into The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry. Since Cirocco (according to Stormfront) "steals all my dates" this often becomes a Sibling Triangle (Cashmere started as Cirocco's coltfriend). Occasionally wanders into Sisterly Incest.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: Stormy goes into the fight against Cashmere fearing that she may have to kill Cashmere, who has been her friend and occasional lover for many years. She is literally crying about this as she writes part of her journal — we see the pages tear-stained. Instead she is able to defeat him by wounding him well short of death, and he is returned to sanity when the Moon Sleipnir leaves him.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Stormy spends much of her time engaging in strenuous endurance exercise flying through the skies from city to city, sometimes having sex in some very strange places and ways with some even stranger partners, and is a natural electrokinetic who spontaneously builds up tremendous static charges (and discharges them during sex). This affects her fur pretty much the way you'd imagine. She's still beautiful afterward.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Put Stormfront in almost any setting and she will meet (and often befriend and/or seduce) the weirdest pony or other creature existing in that setting. Send her to a downright Eldritch Location and she will come back after having befriended one Eldritch Horror, fled another, and involuntarily adopted a third as a daughter. And that is a literal summary of one of the story arcs!
  • Worldbuilding: This blog tells of many different creatures, some previously explained. Included are the "Foo Dogs", protectors of the White Tail Woods which are a mix of Dog, Lion, and Marble (they are animate stone creatures similar to Timberwolves. Marble, by the way, is highly magic resistant); Harpies, intelligent beings native to the Gryphon Empire, who act on instinct; and Canis Minors, cloud-dwelling, pack-roaming Celestial wolves similar to Ursa Minors/Majors.
