On this site, I've often ran into the problem of not being able to find anything from a giant list of examples on a trope page because it wasn't alphabetically ordered (this is a bigger problem with example pages because they are so large). This can also cause the problem of duplicate works on the same example section, because a work couldn't easily be found.
Even though I'm a rather disorganized person by nature (my parents told me this all the time), I'm still bothered by the lack of A-Z ordering. I have been ordering some example pages A-Z and I've wondering, has this been a problem for anyone else? Is anyone else bothered by a lack of alphabetization on some pages?
If so, please link me some of those pages so I can reorder them when I feel like doing so.
UPDATE 2/28/22- Check Out Sandbox- Alphabetically Ordering Examples Clean Up
Alphabetizing special cases:
- El Goonish Shive: Place in "E".
- .hack and related articles: Ignore the dot, place in "H".
- ×××HOLiC: Place in "X".
Once examples on a page have been alphabetized, this tag can be added to the top:

I like the idea of this thread. A lot of older pages are out of order and it's very painstaking to fix them.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI tend to leave "ABC order" as an edit reason pretty often while I'm crosswicking new work pages. If you find a trope page that is getting large enough that one of the medium folders needs to be split off, remember to ping me, and I'll create the new subpage with proper alphabetization.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. Will do, and I guess that means I'll be the one fixing already created subpages.
Totally agreed with this cleanup idea. I think I've done this to help search engine placement in pages related to Characters.Rugrats once (I still remember that, I'm just procrasting).
If I go after a page, I'd say Not-So-Safe Harbor (picked at random).
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I typically worry more about alphabetizing work pages than trope pages, if only because work pages have to be alphabetized and trope pages don't, but it's definitely good to alphabetize whatever we can.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOk, done with Not-So-Safe Harbor. While I was there, I managed to clean up a few zero-context-examples and blatant misuse (if it's not nautical at all, then it's just a Wretched Hive).

No, I wanted to reserve it for myself so you didn't have to take it or have work conflicted. Maybe I haven't worded it perfectly, but I still wanted to take it and fix alphabetisation there (and actually did a bit of work there in Notepad++).
Page for me, Famous, Famous, Fictional.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)- Continuity Nod
- Mood Whiplash
- Wham Episode (some subpages are alphabetized, some are not)
Sorry about that, won't make that mistake again. Also thanks, because you found me a page that I'm actually interested in picking and image for.
I'll put those on my to-do list, thanks.

We should create a sandbox for pages that need their examples alphabetically listed.
back lolAlright, thanks for understanding. I think I've taken care of that page.
Next page for me, Hummer Dinger.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Deal with the Devil: finished Video Games, Webcomics, and Western Animation subpages.
Genre Mashup also needs alphabetizing.

The various Radar pages need alphabetizing.
The much longer pages need to have folders for each genre within a given medium.
Kirby is awesome.Let's not worry about Radar/. A lot of it probably needs to get cut due to misuse.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI'm posting this time, having just alphabetized Accidental Time Travel, to point out that if we can make sure that smaller pages are alphabetized, especially recent launches, that will also help stem the tide of chronologically categorized examples. Some tropers deal with this in TLP, editing drafts to ensure they are in a consistent order.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Update! I'm currently working on Continuity Nod, starting from the Anime/Manga subpage. Some examples are actually callbacks, so it looks like I'll be doing a little cleanup as well.

When I alphabetize things, if there is a trope codifier or ur-example, I will put that first as an exception to the rule. Other people on this site do it this way and I agree with their reasoning.
Created Anime & Manga subpage for Eyes Always Shut and now I'm alphabetizing that.
It would be great to have a list pf pages that need alphabetization.
Kirby is awesome.Unacceptable Targets really needs alphabetizing.
Even the genres themselves are not alphabetized (even excluding the obligatory Real Life being on the bottom of each folder).
Kirby is awesome. Not too long ago, I did some alphabetizing for some of the Role-Ending Misdemeanor sub-pages such as Anime and Sports.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Anyone wants to do Girls with Guns? There's a ton of examples under film, and it's very randomized...
