Self-Demonstrating Character Pages

Kenshiro has... some potential in that he at least has a Catchphrase, some verbal tics in his kiais, and is otherwise a Terse Talker. I don't know if that could sustain a full page without going into ridiculous Character Exaggeration.

Any more thoughts on SelfDemonstrating.Bowser?

Also, does anyone remember more discussion on SelfDemonstrating.Bojack Horseman?

All I could find was some discussion in this thread that seemed to be split. As far as I can tell it petered out shortly after my post but it seemed to be four cuts in a row versus two very tepid-sounding keeps.

Bojack can be cut; it's just him talking about his history and very little else. Bowser's is a little more distinct, but I still think it can be axed because I don't think bragging and saying "Gwahahaha" a lot really warrants a page.

Thoughts on Yzma and Kronk?

Oh, in addition to Bojack, there's SelfDemonstrating.Mr Peanutbutter which I think is arguably worse since the character's speaking style is definitely more distinct, but the page fails to convey it.

As for Yzma and Kronk... yeah that's... weird. Assuming we allow multi-person SD pages (I remember that being up for debate at one point and don't know how it shook out), it being so ripped from the movie does create the issue of making it absolutely nonsensical on its own. It can pretty much be shortened so that the "action" would be going to the Tropes section.

For multi-person pages, we also had The Three Stooges, Pinky and the Brain and Rick and Morty before that.

The Fun with Acronyms page is overboard on self-demonstration. Part of the problem is that, for me at least, it's also a health risk. The sheer amount of Acronym explanations that bold the first letter of words creates a repetitive light/dark pattern is migraine-triggering for me, due to how migraines respond to tight patterns and photosensitivity.

I have no idea if this is a problem for anyone else, but I did want to flag the page given the triggering effect it just had on me.

Edited to add: I forgot to clarify: the main problem is from Example sub-types down. The core trope description isn't a problem, it's the lists and folder names together that are too much.

In that case, maybe the acronym explanations on the folders should all just be removed. Someone should probably put an editor's note there to tell people not to add them back, because they pose a health risk.

There's a few pages that I feel don't really qualify for a voice:

Self-Demonstrating/Monstrox: This guy just sounds like a generic evil villain, not really a unique character voice.

Self-Demonstrating/Zinyak: Again I feel this page just feels like a generic evil villian and not character specific.

Hawk Moth: Once again evil villian style without a unique voice.

Self-Demonstrating/Rufus: Mainly first person tropes written in a basic and normal way.

Mr Happy: Again mostly just tropes written in first person, the "happy" gimmick doesn't really go far enough.

Billy Joe Cobra: A pretty plain first person page, doesn't feel like a "rockstar".

Mr Wilson: Again mostly just tropes written in first person in a plain way.

Yeah, all of those pages can be cut. I'm not sure why Hawk Moth even has a page, I don't think any characters from Miraculous Ladybug have enough of a voice to warrant one.

Hi there. I've had an idea ever since I started reading the self demonstrating character pages and I wanted to know what all of you thought about it. I'm not sure if this has been done or discussed previously, but I think Tigger would be an excellent candidate for a self demonstrating character page.

SelfDemonstrating.Hadron was made 2 days ago.

Anyone familiar enough with the work to see if it... erm, works?

I agree as well. Speaking of which, there were a couple more pages I wanted to bring up:

Bobby Worst: This guy is supposed to be a flamboyant villain but the tropes just seem to be written in a stock and first person way.

Sarah Frances Russell: Agaim, this page feels pretty standard with no unique voice.

West: Another generic page with no voice really and first person troping.

Prince Heinel: Just feels like a villain voice and not unique enough.

Dante: Mainly first person troping with a non unique voice.

Why was SelfDemonstrating.Witchfinder General deleted? He definitely has a unique voice (being Reconstructed Speech) and, together with his excessively retrograde views, it made it one of the funnier pages on the wiki.

There's no character named "Witchfinder General" that got a SD page. Which character are you referring to?

Actually, the Witchfinder General's self-demonstrating character page wasn't deleted. It was just moved to SelfDemonstrating.The Witchfinder General once he got an article dedicated to his own video series.

So some of those were cut, were the others submitted to the cutlist and deemed worth keeping? Because they are utterly voiceless.

Dante suffers from just general "informality is not a unique voice."

But they all should go. Bobby Worst is the... well, worst since looking at the picture and description I assume some voice should be there and it completely fails.

And yeah. A moratorium on new SD pages without approval would be a delight and I don't think anyone would oppose, it's come up numerous times in this thread but it just can't really be mechanically implemented short of locking the regular users from making pages in the Self-Demonstrating/ namespace without approval.

I agree that Bobby Worst and West can definitely be cut. Dante is one I'm iffy about, it has a little more personality than the others, but it falls into a fair amount of first-person troping. Maybe the thread should vote on that one.

Would anyone object if I cut Clone Force 99, Velma Dinkley, Phoenix Wright, Doug Funnie, Tsuyu Asui, and Tommy Pickles? None of them seem very distinct to me.

Objection! I object to cutting Phoenix Wright, for objection's sake!

Okay, yeah, I walked right into that one. Can't argue with that.

But seriously, I think they should be cut.

Tsu is plain and generic, saying Ribbit a few times does not make an unique voice. Velma I don't even feel like that page particularly feels like stuff she would say. Clone Force I'm not sure. Phoenix I think you could theoretically make a good page for if you set it up like a case from the games, but it's not like that really. Doug seems to be just first person. Tommy also is that, one of his entries even uses the term "Played straight" which wouldn't make much sense to say out loud.

On Bowser, I (personally) feel like he could have a distinct "voice," and that it isn't reflected too poorly on that page. It isn't just arrogance + GWAHAHA, as the RPGs give him more personality than one might find elsewhere. But that could just be a side-effect of me instinctively reading his page in Jack Black's voice, making me imagine a consistent tone where there isn't one.

On Phoenix Wright, I agree with (x1) that he probably could have a page with a distinct voice, but what we currently have isn't that.

I don't have a stance on Clone Force and Tsuyu Asui.

I have a few vague ideas for self demonstrating character pages that could do with some reviewing in terms of unique voice.
