Self-Demonstrating Character Pages

Oscar The Sharkslayer was cut for being made by a ban evader. It's no big loss, really.

Baymax and Carl can easily be cut, they're just tropes in first person. Lumiere's page seems to be trying for a sophisticated-sounding voice, but it doesn't really get it across (same for Madam Mim, but it's trying to sound pompous). Kuzco definitely has a distinct voice, but his page is pretty shoddy as it is and doesn't do the best job of conveying it. I think it could work if it was revised. Po's good and Roz seems okay, though I'm not sure hers is unique enough.

Darth Vader's is one I'm unsure about; it has slightly more personality than other pages, but a lot of it is first person troping. I'm okay with either cutting it or reworking it to remove the Fanon and EU tropes. Grievous, Hannibal, Napoleon Dynamite, and Rick can be cut (the last two are stubs that haven't been updated in months or years). The Stooges and Yoda can stay.

Ok. Now Zatanna should have her unique voice. I hope. I basically just made her entire page reversed-text and added a note that says what it looks like normally per line.

Yeah, and if backwards speech isn't her constant shtick, then it doesn't really seem to work. This needs to be how a character just acts, not a gimmick that's pulled from something they do occasionally.

Ok then I guess we can just pull the page then.

This thread's been quiet for a while, so I'm going to go down the comic folders. (I'll be honest and admit I'm not familiar with half of these characters, so I might be biased.)

Is SelfDemonstrating.Halara Nightmare distinct enough? The troper focusing on the same work also has me concerned.

As much as I know the source, it doesn't sound enough distinctive.

Also, three of the examples contain unmarked spoilers for the source game, including a plot twist from the game's finale. And the page was indexed out of alphabetical order.

Someone is in the process of adding all the Sailor Moon characters which seems... well, unlikely they have distinct enough voices in writing.

I was recently reminded of SCP-682, which I don't believe we ever came to a consensus on.

I'm a fan of Sailor Moon and all, but I can't think of any character from that canon who has a unique enough voice to warrant a self-demonstrating page. They can all easily be cut.

That one could go either way. It sort of has a voice in insulting everything, but it's not very distinct. I'd be fine with cutting it.

Yeah, in case I didn't make it clear, I don't think any of the Sailor Moon characters are viable. Chibi-Usa is the character who might come closest due to being a child, but her page is basically just a first person page with absolutely no voice.

As for SCP... honestly, my bar is so low for these at this point that I'll take it.

So, I notice the Sailor Moon characters were cut citing this thread.

I don't disagree with the cut, obviously, and this thread was linked in the discussion page where I know the guy who made the pages can see them but it still feels a bit quick and without sufficient discussion given how much work they clearly put into the pages.

It's one of the reasons I really would rather there was some method of not allowing these pages to be made in the first place rather than trying to play whack-a-mole. People are putting work into these and it makes me sad on a few levels.

... anyway, speaking of a lot of work, SelfDemonstrating.Bowser. I really can't see a voice past "kinda casual and very occasional being hotheaded." The character himself is so archetypical that I don't think he has much of a distinct voice.

I'm undecided on whether SelfDemonstrating.Bowser has a unique enough voice, but it's worth noting that a previous incarnation of the page was cut in 2015/2016 and redirected to Characters.Super Mario Bros Bowser before the page was recreated by ImSpidey2 in 2022.

Bowser's page is...iffy. It tries to have a voice by having him brag a lot and say "Gwahahaha" constantly, but I don't think it really works. At the end of the day, he's an Evil Overlord with only slightly more personality than a typical example of the trope. I'd be okay with cutting it.

Someone recently made a page for Yzma and Kronk. I'm not sure what to make of it because while it does have the gimmick of two characters playing off of each other, almost the entirety of the opening to the page is just copied and pasted from the movie itself word-for-word. I don't think that constitutes a unique voice.

I agree that there should be some way to lock the namespace so there can be some kind of review process for self-demonstrating pages, but apparently the mods are very reluctant to take that action (I remember someone saying that way earlier in the thread, but I don't recall the exact post). It seems like we're kind of stuck in the "trying to play whack-a-mole" situation.

Someone made SelfDemonstrating.Nick And Fetcher but forgot to write any example.

It hasn't been edited in months. I'll go ahead and cutlist it.

I don't know if this one's a self-demonstrating character page, per se, but I recently came across SelfDemonstrating.Greeny Phatom, which lacks any tropes and has a description that largely mirrors the main work page's.

What? Just a copy of the main page? Just trash it.

Just looked at the anime folder again. Would anyone mind if I cut Kenshiro, Jotaro Kujo, and Pegasus Seiya? They're all rather bland Walls of Text that just describe what the characters did in canon and nothing else.

There is also Dragon Shiryu in the same vein. Nicole Watterson also sounds a bit weak in the "peculiar voice" corner.

There's nothing about Dragon Shiryu that makes him stand out among other heroes even in his own work.
