A new vid in which they cover Crash Dummy. If that sounds familiar to you, it's because this is a Switch "sequel" to Cid the Dummy, a Wii game that was covered by them already.

Don't worry, it's not as bad as Cid the Dummy. It's worse.

They really did forget to log out of their main account before they left fake reviews on their own game, huh.

Having to be a phone too just kind of dragged the whole thing down, didn't it? I mean, it had issues besides that, but it certainly didn't help.

I don't know what was worse, the Game.com (also covered in a previous vid) or this.

Alright, so while the Game.com vid was almost all negative (and rightly so), he actually starts off on a positive note with the N-Gage. He notes that it actually had one great thing over the Gameboy Advance at the time. Namely that it actually ported 3-d graphics on to a handheld.

But it's pretty much all downhill from there.

Apologies for the triple post but since it's been a day I figured it was alright.

Welp, that was an interesting vid. Some highlights:

  • As mentioned, they actually gave the N-Gage a fair shake. They started out listing positives — granted, said positives were all apparently due to another studio who were just scarily good at porting 3-D games to the N-Gage.

  • Since it was the N-Gage, there were far more negatives. Such as the hardware and controls. Everything about the N-Gage made it a pain in the ass to actually play any game. Tiny screen with a bad aspect ratio, somehow having too many buttons and having not enough buttons (no shoulder triggers), no main volume control for convenience, having to take apart and remove the battery just to switch out a game, long bootup and load times especially compared to the competition at the time...

  • The actual game selection wasn't great either. That Elder Scrolls game was just embarrassing.

  • And of course they didn't let the price tag go unaddressed either. $299 for an N-Gage was a ridiculously high price at the time.

However, they went further. They pointed out another possible reason that the N-Gage failed to have a healthy launch. And it's such a stupid reason too.

Namely, that Nokia fucked up the E3 presentation. For whatever reason, they thought it was a good idea to present a buggy N-Gage with severe framerate issues to the journalists and store reps at E3. They showed off a half-baked product at E3 right before its launch. Sure, the actual product that was launched didn't have these issues, but by then the damage was done.

This episode of Just Bad Games is about another PC game from the 90s you've probably never heard of - Gender Wars.

Before Rerez, I only knew of this game's existence from a video game-focused Russian TV show many years ago.

You know, the basic gameplay there looks pretty fun. It really seems like they went out of their way to make it unbearable.

The vid points out that the basic gameplay is quite similar to the earlier released Syndicate. But unlike Syndicate, Gender Wars was less intuitive and lacked QOL features like an in-game map.

I first heard about this game from a magazine during the 1990s where the reviewer gave it a low score. After seeing this video, I can see why it was given a low score due to how bad it is. The fact it was released around the same time as Syndicate Wars makes it jarring.

New video, covering 2008 Wii title Skate City Heroes. It's very... 2008 Wii, shoehorned motion controls and all. It also kinda wants to be Jet Set Radio but has trouble committing to the bit.

Where do they keep finding these?

Perhaps surprisingly, the reviews weren't that bad. It has a 59 on Metacritic.

Note that those are critic scores. The game didn't even get enough user ratings to get a user score. A game only needs four ratings for that.

I assume people did actually buy that game, but just didn't care enough to rate it.

As for Rerez being harsher on this game than said critics, it's probably due to their well established dislike of badly utilized motion controls.

Well we got a trailer for the sequel that will probably show up on the show down the line.
