Creator/{{Netflix}} promptly cancelled his planned comedy special ''77'', TV networks pulled reruns of his shows, and he was ultimately convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault in 2018. Cosby would spend three years in prison before being let OffOnATechnicality in 2021. [[note]]During a civil case against one of his accusers, Cosby admitted in a deposition to drugging women. However, he did this under a verbal agreement with the prosecutor that he wouldn't be criminally charged. The subsequent prosecutor did criminally charge Cosby and used this testimony against him, which meant that Cosby was deprived of his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, and thus the court had to release him.[[/note]] In 2022, he was found liable in a civil trial for sexually assaulting a woman in 1975 when she was sixteen, further tarnishing Cosby's already-tarnished reputation. Much of his body of work was re-examined, with various moments coming off as [[HarsherInHindsight downright eerie and uncomfortable]].[[note]]A stand-up comedy routine about Spanish Fly (a date rape drug) was seen as a warning sign that got missed, and Cosby's clashes with Creator/LisaBonet (who played his daughter on ''The Cosby Show'') for appearing in the sexually-explicit ''Film/AngelHeart'' and posing topless in ''Interview'' magazine were pointed out as hypocritical, considering that Cosby himself had done far worse.[[/note]] Networks and streaming services now refuse to touch anything involving Cosby with a ten-foot pole, and opinion on Cosby has gone from a trailblazer and moral authority to a hypocritical pariah and sexual predator. As such, it's extremely unlikely that Cosby will ever regain the respect he once had.

Over the course of the trial, it becomes clear that he's not only as much of a denier as Lipstadt reported, but also a fraud and a raving bigot, leaving his professional and personal reputation completely destroyed.

* Cigarette advertisements on television, movies, and radio. Incredibly popular and virtually omnipresent throughout the 20th century, they are nowadays looked back on as a symbol of how naïve people were at the time about the dangers of tobacco use. They are also seen as symbols of kitsch from the '50s and '60s. The knowledge that [[http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/marlboro.asp at least four of the men]] who played the Marlboro Man in advertisements later [[DeathByIrony died of lung cancer]] wound up making Marlboro's ads in particular HarsherInHindsight, especially knowing the lengths to which tobacco companies went to deny or downplay the health risks of smoking. These days, in the United States, the only places where you can advertise tobacco products are either on printed media like magazines, billboards, or the internet, and companies must put in a noticeable warning about the specific health risks involved. However, some jurisdictions went further and banned all tobacco advertising completely, such as in the United Kingdom. Some developing countries like Indonesia, however, still allow televised, printed, and digital tobacco ads.
