Personally, I hope it's a faithful to the spirit adaptation like The Last of Us was; faithful when the source material was good and only deviating when they knew they could do something better.

Also, I REALLY hope they take advantage of the animation medium and utilize that well and not just... the comic frame-by-frame but animated.

[up] Right? I was super worried it wouldn't use the usual art style, but they are! I saw it twice now and my hands are still shaking in hype!

-high five to fellow Scott Pilgrim fan-

The translation of the comic's art style to fluid animation is bonkers. There's definitely love in this project.

an animated adaptation is such an obvious move that I can't understand why it didn't happened sooner.

Figured it was because it got adapted to a movie first.

[up] still like 14 years between that movie and now, that's a lot of nothing for this franchise for too long.

You make it sound like they could have made this at any point in those 14 years and they deliberately dragged their feet or something.

That's essentially the opposite of how getting anything to air is. It is a struggle just to get a pilot together and 90% of those are turned away.

Plus, this is a movie that bombed and never had wide, mainstream-appeal. Getting an animated adaptation of a movie that is successful is hard enough.

The last several years have more than demonstrated that Hollywood is big on live-action adaptations and treats animated films like their neglected child.

I know it's not that easy I'm not saying it isn't I'm just saying is crazy that such a popular comic had such a hard time to be picked up for a full series but you've a point the movie bombing likely didn't help it's chances, they likely had better chances now becouse of all the popular comic book shows that are coming out at the moment.

Both the comic and the movie are Cult Classics but they are fairly self-contained and not a particularly flexible franchise. While reboots happen a lot more frequently and they sometimes take inspiration from the same source, direct adaptations usually have a bit more space given. Plus the movie was a Box Office Bomb and it took a few years to get past that before being acknowledged for what it was. I remember going to the tenth anniversary release a little amused that the theaters want it back now.

Finally got to the first episode of the anime.

Is the art style... intentionally fuzzy or is my computer resolution just not right for this.

Yup, for some reason it went to SD instead of HD.

Alright well this seems to be a Stealth Reboot with Ramona being the main character which I have to say I was not expecting. Kind of neat though.
