The game was way, way more based on the books than it was based on the movie.

It's more accurate to say that the game and the movie were two concurrent adaptations of the comics rather than calling it an adaptation of the movie.

[up] I see. Well, I still wonder if they'll add any new stuff like...

  • QOL changes to things like the difficulty and grinding aspects of the game (since the PS3 version had those complaints)
  • A story mode featuring elements from Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour like an unbeatable boss fight with Nega-Scott during Scott's wilderness sabbatical and Gideon's giant form as a new phase for the final boss
  • And other playable characters like Lisa Miller, Julie, and Young Neil and maybe even Katie, Hazel, and Lis from Bryan's later GN Seconds. (Unless those last three would be another legal headache waiting to happen?)

Today I learned that actually was her singing. Which now confuses me as to how I didn't know that before.

The original is pretty good too, but I fell in love with Brie's version.

The cast of the movie is coming back for the anime!

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.

  1. What in the shit
  2. Seeing all those names in one go reminded me that this is one of those movies (like Short Term 12, also starring Brie Larson) where the casting director saw the vision — Evans/Larson/Kendrick had blowup films shortly afterwards, Culkin/Plaza/Pill well-regarded on TV until now, etc

Frankly, my biggest takeaway is that, given Syn's point about how the actors have almost all blown up (except, almost fittingly, Scott himself), they enjoyed the experience enough to come back.

Hah, I think this *was* Cera’s peak fame. Everything he did before and after was smaller and weirder.

So I wonder if Netflix is better at making anime from live action than they are live action from anime.

Was about to ask if this would count as an anime or western animation. From the looks of it though, O’Malley will write but most of the production will occur in Japan. So I guess it counts, more than the Castlevania series at least.

Even Cera still had a later blockbuster high later with LEGO Batman. If anyone got left out it was Ellen Wong.

Will it be a re-adaptation or a sequel?

If it's a re-adaptation, I hope they don't kill off the rival music band, I always found that disturbing in the cinematic version.

Who knows? But my money is on re-adaptation. Going closer to the books.

The movie and the comic are also quite different in themes and conflict IMO. The film is a straight-up action comedy about fighting the Evil Exes, while in the comic the main conflict is actually Scott's journey of self-improvement, and the Exes apart from Gideon (and to a much lesser extent Todd) are basically "side missions" to show Scott what he could become if he continues his life as an amoral freeloader.

Outside of committing to a single girlfriend, I don't recall us getting any actual signs that Scott is going to stop being an amoral freeloader.

I believe Volume 6 was basically a conga line of Scott having to face the fact that he's basixally a dick, and most of his social circle has been making strides in their lives without him. He tries to get Knives to have sex with him and she rightly points out that neither of them wants that.

By the end IIRC it ends on Scott defeating Negascott (his repressed flaws and guilt), defeating Gideon, and starting over with Ramona/committing to a single girlfriend.

See Scott Pilgrim was interesting to me back then because A) as previously stated it's probably the gayest comic book out there and B) because it didn't end in a way that felt "happy."

Scotr didn't fully win Ramona back. They both just realized that they both had issues and they were willing to try again, but that future's left intentionally uncertain.

It's an optimistic, hopeful kind of ending. By the end of it, Scott's relationship isn't perfect, but he's come out the other end a better person than he was at the beginning.

I'll say it again this is the gayest comic I ever read.

In the movie, other then being shitty with relationships, I don't recall Scott being very amoral. I feel like the only amoral thing about Scott is his relationship to Knives (which admittedly, is pretty fucked up, between her age and him pretty clearly using her as a rebound girl, but that's over now).

As for the freeloading, its a small bit and nothing else comes from it, but Wallace does nudge to Scott that he wants him to move out.

You're right, "amoral" may not be the right word. Scott's pretty much enabled by everyone around him. I remember in the comic finding it surprising that his parents decided to just get him his own apartment and pay for it; even though everything they said to him was technically positive and supportive, it came off feeling like empty platitudes, like getting him an apartment was easier than actually dealing with him.

Even though the movie had to cut a lot of stuff, I did like most of the actual changes they did. Such as turning Todd Ingram from a joke about a Deus ex Machina to a Puzzle Boss that Scott defeats in a clever way. Though I didn't like how the extra life turned back time; it made it seem like Scott was the only real person.

What I'm getting at it, whether this is a re-adaptation of the source material or a continuation, since all the same people are involved I'm looking forward to it.

I'd definitely like a continuation, to show that all the evil exes are still alive and getting on with their lives. The author always said that was true, but fans insist on doing hot takes about how Scott is murdering people across Toronto.

No word if this is properly adapting the comic or doing some kind of 1/2 cour thing.

Heck no telling if Netflix is actually going to air this or sweep it under the rug for another season of Emily In Paris.

What I liked about the movie is that Nega-scott turned out to be a decent guy, who usually comes up with two theories.

  • Scott is a jerk, so the negative of him is someone kind.
  • Scott is a zero, and the negative of a zero is still zero.
