Jobber reads like a definition only page, and yet it has an example...ONE example. Is it supposed to be def only and that one slipped through, or did it just so happen to end up that way?

It’s a reference to the term In-Universe.

The page is written in a weird way and should probably be reorganized to current standards (at least index wrestlers who frequently act or acted as jobbers), but basically it's a pro wrestling trope that can have examples from other fiction.

That said, the Lensman example in question appears to be misuse to me.

The Jobber page is in a weird spot since The Worf Effect is the actual "Jobber" trope.

In that case it probably needs to be disambiguated between The Worf Effect and Fanspeak. Which means we need a wick check for this thing.

[up][up] I disagree that Jobber and The Worf Effect characterize the same thing, as a genuinely strong, established character with a good track record can get suddenly beaten up for the purposes of establishing a superior antagonist (ie, "getting worf'd), while a Jobber is a functional character who exists primarily to get beaten up and other people look better. Those are two pretty different concepts in spirit.

Thanks for playing King's Quest V!
