My favourite scenario with this trope, is when the The Villain executes one of these, after being backed into a corner, while previously trying to act as affable as possible. I'm in general a huge fan of characters going through corruption arcs.

8/10. Oftentimes a needed trope when fans notice a dip in writing quality.

Epileptic Trees

Generally fun, sometimes it gets annoying where the fans take it too far or insist that their theory must be correct even if it doesn't make any sense.

6/10. Slight case of Misaimed Fandom, but it can open a wider audience appeal.

4/10. Can be pretty frustrating, especially on replays/rewatches.

Fridge Brilliance

10/10. It’s always good to think back on the scenes and how it all makes sense.

10/10. It's always nice when a work rewards its viewers' intelligence.

They Changed It, Now It Sucks!

3/10. Tends to show a lack of faith on both the creator's and fan's sides.

Usually pretty bland, the joke tends to get pretty old real fast. Though thankfully, they usually don't last long. The exception is usually when the entire piece of media in question is so bizarre, to the point that it takes copiuos amounts of Willing Suspension of Disbelief. Its especially fun when you introduce a friend to said media.

Difficulty Spike

6/10. Though it could be an annoyance, especially to those used to the easier levels, it makes a game arguably more challenging.

Evil Is Cool

10/10. There's a reason why I love LARPing as villains.

7/10 It can work at showing the villain in a tragic light, though it's best if the villain was already sympathetic to begin with.

10/10. They’re a good example of a character that has gone through a rough life, but still manages to endure it and keep going. It makes you root for them all the more.

If you have a good idea for a story, don't throw its potential out the window.

7/10. Can be entertaining, but at the times can be wasted potential for something geniunly good.

The Inverse Law of Fandom Levity

4/10. Darker works having a lighthearted fanbase is fun to me, but I tend to take umbrage with lighthearted works having dead-serious fanbases. (See SpongeBob SquarePants and RWBY)

2/10. As sequels grow more difficult, I find them to be less enjoyable and more frustrating.

4/10. Sometimes a good Self-Imposed Challenge, but more often than not frustrating.

5/10 Neutral, but I can understand the sentiment behind.

Complete Monster

8/10. Purely evil villains are the ones I like to root against the most and the most eager to see get their comeuppance.

9/10 It’s generally a pretty good sign if the villains are entertaining, so long as it doesn’t lead to fans downplaying their more vile actions or traits.

Fandom VIP

4/10 - Fine as long as they aren't total assholes.
