I did not like the Lucifero fight.
After the whole build-up to him turns out he's just a childish psycho who fights purely with brute force and absolutely no form of intelligence.
The whole thing felt like a let down and was the most underwhelming battle of the Dark Triad which considering he is the final boss meant the grand finale was anti-climactic.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Eh, I liked it.
Dude's a childish brute and that's kind of the point. He's supposed to be a little pathetic.
I guess I like mega powerful villains who are still pretty pathetic. It doesn't always work but when it does? It REALLY works.
It didn't feel properly set-up with Lucifero.
He came across as more intelligent in his phantom presence so his full body appearance winds up feeling like a completely different character entirely.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I liked the Tranquil Fury moment.
Secret SignatureEh?
Never really got that vibe from him. Though I also never really cared much for the Devil subplot either.
Lucifero also wasn't complete when he was fought, too.
Lucius is essentially the Complete Lucifero, but more due to essentially turning Lucifero into an Ascended Demon within himself.
Watch SymphogearGoing back to this, I'm not sure if "obligatory" is the right word, but I definitely think what's missing is that, well...the Dark Triad just aren't given the same amount of buildup? There were so many arcs building up to the Eyes of the Midnight Sun pulling off the elf reincarnation, the Dark Triad just don't have that same level of intrigue. Plus, like I said, the devil lore isn't interesting to me.
The Dark Triad and even the Devils were ultimately a build up to Lucius. Heck, it's even hinted at throughout the arc that Lucius was messing with time to make Lucifero's defeat happen.
It's funny to realize that things would have been better off if Paltry had actually finished off Julius for real.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAs pointed out there wasn't really as much build-up with the Dark Triad as with the elves.
Like before the elf arc there were plenty of arcs and stuff happening, but after the elf arc it goes the one arc where they meet the Heart Kingdom and thats when the Dark Triad invades everyone.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'll give it this: the later arcs make Yuno feel a lot better as a character. He's still kinda boring but I'm actually feeling more emotion looking at his struggles and junk.
...that Star Magic stuff is kinda bullshit though.
I think it might be a lore thing too that makes it feel sudden? We know about devils since the very first chapter with the five leaf grimoire and Liebe, then after Heart it becomes lots of full devil hosts and Triad but we don't really dive into the lore for devils and the underworld until Nacht appears
Yup, pretty sure Lucius was always intended to be the main and final villain what with hints about something darker in Julius since early on and what with the story about becoming Wizard King and ending discrimination — makes sense Asta's big bad is actually the Wizard King himself who wants to achieve equality in his own way
she/herEven that whole coverless Grimoire thing was bullshit. It was just to hide the fact that his Grimoire is a Spade Kingdom Grimoire.
Disgusted, but not surprisedFor the record, I'm fine with Lucius as the final villain and all and I don't think it was an asspull, I guess I was just expecting a little bit more?
I love the stuff with the Paladins, though. "Equality" through turning people into puppets for a "perfect" world. Utopia through robbing people of their ability to choose or decide. Targeting Asta because he's unpredictable and keeps inspiring people to do better and get stronger. Good stuff.
...also, tangential to all this but I just remembered...where the fuck is Leo? I don't remember seeing him in the final battle, I only saw Mereoleona and Fuegoleon.
One thing I love about the Paladins as well is how we've gotten Noelle and Nacht's final enemies to be Acier and Morgen. Fitting their final opponents are the dead mother whose legacy she has to live up to and the twin brother whose death he blamed himself for changing him completely. Bonus for Morgen's incarnated devil being the one who killed him thanks to the ritual gone wrong.
she/herYeah really looking forward to Yami, Ichika, and Nacht vs. Morgen.
Congrats on catching up. Now we wait for whenever Jump Giga releases haha
Merry fucking Christmas.
No. Now it's a merry fucking christmas!
Today's chapter:
Every time Luck and Magna team up, an evil angel gets totally !@#$% up!
One Strip! One Strip!God I fucking missed this.
Love those two boys.
I see Luck has gone full Yoruichi with the naked lightning catboy form. It's... equality... I guess.
It was soooooo satisfying seeing Luck and Magna bring back their combo attack. They're so good together.
A chapter spent almost entirely on Luck and Magna vs a Lucius clone. Yeah safe to say people can stop worrying Black Clover ain't ending anytime soon
Also love the color spread! Safe to say they'll be the characters to keep an eye on for the rest of the final arc
she/herHave to say, I enjoyed this chapter. Like everyone else, I enjoyed seeing another Magna and Luck Messaround™, but tbh, I’ve also just really missed BC. Catching up on Black Clover back in the summer and reading chapters weekly a few months ago helped me mentally and emotionally, so while this’ll still be a long wait, I’m glad that BC is back.
I actually got one of my friends into Black Clover and she's been LOVING it. So seeing her gush about it kinda made me miss it.
Seeing new chapters again feels so good.
ngl I have a friend I wanna share it with too, but I’m worried she might not enjoy it. admittedly, this is just my paranoid self being… well, paranoid, but despite BC being one of my favorites that I’d recommend to anyone, I’m just worried that it might not be a good first anime/manga suggestion.
sorry if I went off topic! >~<
I feel like the first big arc/saga, with the elves, worked pretty well. Everything after feels a bit... obligatory, Dante vs Magna notwithstanding.
